I been going to k's for a while and I noticed that they cheat on your recycle. I always remember when I come in with my 4 bags of bottles and can I would get like 12 bucks give or take and one time I had 6 bags and i still got 12 bucks. So I decided to to go in with 4 bags again, same price. Another time I bring in 8 bags and still the same price. Then I heard from many friends that they got ripped off too and another said that they put a cap on the scale so it doesn't go past a certain weight. Idk how true that is but it seems like it every time I go in. So do be careful and keep count of how much you get Everytime you do recycling here.
We stopped in to redeem some marine batteries that we were no longer using. I was really impressed at how well staffed this business was. There was a large crew of smiling and happy gentlemen. We were immediately greeted by one of them, who was soon helping us unload our batteries. A minute later, we were driving off, cash in hand! If you are in a position to be generous, there is a long list of local charities and organizations that you can donate your redemption money to. That's pretty awesome!
Although there are a couple recycling centers in Hilo, I ALWAYS use Mr. K's. They have easy in and out access and parking at their facility. I have yet to meet an employee that is I'll mannered or unhelpful. They are some of the nicest and pleasant young employees that you'll meet anywhere. They don't have the luxury of working inside. No, they work outside in all types of weather handling only what I can imagine to be some filthy, foil smelling and often sharp recyclables. These young folks have my utmost respect and for that I will continue to do my recycling at Mr. K's
Drove an hour and a half with a bunch of e waste just to find out they closed an hour and a half early for what appears to be a meeting. What a bummer. Waste of time and gas :-(
This place is very efficient and professional. We are careful not to throw items into the rubbish that can be recycled. Mr K's is very organized and has a great system in place. We had 6 large batteries, a bag of plastic, an old metal chimney and aluminum cans, as well as, glass that were pre sorted and ready to go. Thank you for having this location to dispose of items that can be potentially reused.
I drive from keaau to Mr ks for all my recycling because of their excellent service. The employees have always been kind, helpful and trustworthy. So I will always recommend them.
Bought a Laptop, paid for it, they’ve said they have to format (restore to factory settings) came back 40 min later they had it opened and changing parts on it. For people who don’t know you do not touch anything inside the computer’s hardware to format any pc. I’ve ask for a refund lady in the office refused till I almost called the police. Pls beware of this place something really wrong goes on.
It's a great place to shop and visit they have great customer service and they employees are very friendly their recycling place are very clean anyone can donate their recycling money to the schools they children are designed to enjoy your day
Amazing! This place is the best! The staff is SO very friendly and helpful, and often ready to assist you as soon as you pull up. I bought some of their large onion bags to transport my recycling (only like 40 cents each or something like that) because the bags make it so moisture doesn't build up and cause mold and other nasty things if you end up storing it awhile.
Recycling is a dirty business and for that reason I give this team props for endeavoring to do so. I don't know if they are still sorting, but in either case, it's great to be able to get your drink deposits back or get paid for old scrap copper or brass, not to mention car batteries. Roy Kadota, Norna, Jaime, Armenio, Cheryl, Jill, Nelson and whoever is still around are a solid team. I'm grateful to Roy for getting me certified to operate a forklift, which has helped me at other jobs. Don't bring your 'opala please! Also don't bother bringing copper you ripped because they won't accept it without photographing you with your drivers license and license plate :D so don't try it! Also a great place to pick up 5 gallon buckets if you need!
First, I.m grateful there is a place in Hilo to recycle electronics.Having said that, what a scam! I was told I the fee is 55¢/lb to recycle personal electronics. I'm fine with that. I'd gladly pay double -- if they were straightforward about it. What I **don't** appreciate is that I was told that my computer monitor weighed 12 lbs. I paid up, went home and looked at my records. When I ordered that same monitor from Amazon, the package, including the box, the packing materials, and the manual weighed 6.9 lbs. HUH?
Always ask to see the containers weight on scale before you fill them. They are notzeroed out, they are under weight,so they are ripping everyone off. Also DO NOT TAKE SCRAP METAL OR COPPER. TO THEM ALSO.THEY GIVE YOU THE LOWEST PER POUND. ATLAS IS BEST.MR. KAY AND HIS FLUNKIES ARE IDIOTS.
Will serve you as soon as they can with the leisure of just looking around or comeong into the store property for questions about hawaiin recycling procedures which are now different when recycling your plastics( plastic recycling is now appected and cashed put without caps) when having to bring in certain recycling; they take fine metals: aluminum brass copper, without any other contaminants; aluminum rims as well qualify; car and lower cc batteries and they are all paid for per pound; metals depending on their qualities nd batteries on the size. Hawaiin qualified Hi-5 glass aluminum plastic and Bi-metal. Fine metals are need an ID to be cashed out. They also have assorted cloths donated sold at a quarter a piece.
I take my Hi5 and they do a good job of unloading, weighing and paying. I drop of my old electronics on Saturdays for the Free e-waste collection and I also buy recycled computer and electronic parts at a very good price. Mr'K's is good!
