I used to go there all the time. Recently, the staff has become rude. Always giving me an attitude. I waited in line for a half hour just for them to tell me to leave so they could close early. They could've said something instead of making me wait. 2nd time in a row this has happened. I am going to take the extra 30 min to drive to all scrap in venice even though I only live 10 min away from dons. You just lost a customer.
We need another recycler to open business in northport so we can get some price for us going. You're only paying five cents for metal Six dollars for refrigerator Five or six dollars for washer and dryer Each. Put some gas In You are tank but that is about it. As long as you don't get a nail in your tire while you're up there on the hill and ruining your entire week of collecting to get your tire fixed.
First time customer, the yard is small but the signs definitely helped with where I needed to go. Everyone was nice, even though they were super busy, and got me taken care of quickly. 10/10 recommend!
DONT USE THEM. Sat at the stop sign for 25 min. Clearly there before there cut off time Walked out at 3:50 didn't say anything and just closed the door used them in the past definitely not anymore. They don't like to work anymore been going down hill last couple of months
I called ahead to make sure they would take what I had on a small utility trailer. The gal that answered the phone said they weren’t paying for steel, but I could drop it off. When I was about half unloaded, I was told by the forklift operator that they didn’t have room for the rest of my load, which was some metal roofing. Instead of saving time and gas I still have to go to Port Charlotte or Venice. I won’t be going back to Don‘s and can’t recommend them to anyone else.
I advise going to Venice or Port Charlotte with your scrap. The average market price for #1 insulated copper wire is $1.89 now, they tried paying me $1.18/lb at Don's.
I've been in this place 2 times now and was given the price of #2 copper when it was clearly #1 bare bright.
The first time I didn't realize it until I was away from the property.
The 2nd time I let it be known that it was #1. The woman who was working there (and clearly doesn't know her job) was told that it was #1 and she still wrote my ticket up as #2
So I'll never be going back there.
Interesting experience. I will give them 3 stars for now because the last time I was there, the service was 5 stars, but today it was not good. Probobly 1 star. I cut the cooper joints because the price is higher, but they insisted on weighing it all together, same with aluminum. I know it's not much, but every dollar and ounce counts. Also, the weird thing is that they gave me 3 dollars less than what they owed me, probably a mistake, but I will make sure to count my money there next time. I will definitely give them another chance and update this review next time.
I highly recommend Don's Recycling for metal recycling. Easy drop off and fast. Not sure why some people complain that they had to unload by theirselves. Every Recycling I have gone to you unload yourself. I rate 5 out of 5 and they paid me rather than I pay the city dump to get rid of.

Don't come here they literally rip you off it's not worth it took 350 pounds of copper and got $175! 50 cent Per pound. Don't come here unless you want to be rob!
They are very unprofessional I brought clean extruded aluminum and it had paint on it so they said that it was mixed. It had no nails or nothing. It was a solid beam of aluminum that was taking off of a Humvee and they said that it was mixed aluminum, not one nail or bolts in it quarter inch thick aluminum bracket. I don’t recommend anyone go there then I called them back to talk to a manager and the guy told me I know what you had an I was wrong that if I want it back to bring the money back so Unprofessional!!!!
Can't complain about the pricing, money is money. The people are another story, the customer service is the worst. Can't ask one question without getting side eye. Really sad to see that they aren't grateful for the business.
They had no option for 0 stars so im stuck with this 1 star review for Dons recycling in north port. We came in with some scrap metal and some stainless steel, ower came out and said we had steel. They were very unprofessional and are preying on people who dont know prices of metal
Terrible attitude. Guy seems like he hates his job. I brought over 5 thousand pounds of coils and copper and this guy had the worst attitude. I have been going there since Don owned it and then it was great. You have to be supper hard up to take them anything. Change your management and I will be back. Till then I will go to sarasota or allied in port Charlotte. By the way I was there at 11:45. Service sucked. I told them to move there dumpsters I’m leaving.
Got here at 11:58. They clearly state that they are open until 1230 and everything is locked up and closed. False advertisement they should really update that they close before noon on Saturdays
I am very happy with this place! I just dropped off some old rusty mobile home stairs, some wire that FPL left behind, and an old electric box that I had replaced earlier this year. Not only did I get rid of that stuff cluttering my yard but I also got $12 and change :-). Thank you!
Horrible customer service. Website shows open on Saturday till 12:30. Got there at 11:40. Sat in line behind a roll-off truck. After a pick up unloaded doors all closed. Went inside at 11:46 asked a guy for some help. He told me we close down at 11:45 so they can get out of there. Only had 2 small appliances items would have taken 5 minutes.
Called prior to our visit, was told they would take all scrap from our fabricating company... but upon arrival it was a problem.. and than they gave us change for all... very concerning you trust the honesty..amd than it's clear someone was not honest. Would recommend going north to Sarasota
Dropped off my first ever load of aluminium cans. Wasn't quite sure what to expect. The gentleman who helped me was super friendly and polite. Was a quick in and out and pocketed beer money for the day! I definitely recommend this place and will be back.
I have been coming here for years and honestly was never pleasant visit BUT TODAY was GREAT it must be under new management the staff was very nice pricing was very fair. I was not sure I wanted to even go here but after today's experiance...I. Will go back anyone that had a bad experiences I highly suggest u go back and see the changes A BIG THANKS TO THE 2 STAFF
Disrespectful, rude employees/management, owner makes up "rules and regulations" as he goes, just so he can make more money and give a lower rate for the scrap. Basically takes advantage of the fact that he's pretty much the only scrap yard in town. I've seen him take pictures of people's license plates! That can not be legal!!!!
