Great for fishing. Lots of trees but bring a hat and sunscreen in the summer it gets HOT. Water is quite warm. Bluegill and redear sunfish. Lake has a hard sandy bottom. 33 ft at its deepest.

Grew up on the old Sampson lake dirt road. Area sure has changed over the years.

Great bass lake. Water can get low sometimes making it tough to get through the canal. Good ramp.

The powers that be have Sampson's lake level ENTIRELY TOO LOW for this time of year. Just after those drenching rains we had a month ago, they have had the gates on the lake wide open. The resident's canals are more like massive mosquito pits, when they should be at NORMAL level during March and April. The ONLY reason that the gates are as low as they are is so that the FEW boats that use Lake Rowell can get under the trestle. This isn't a legitimate reason to make everyone else suffer, along with the danger associated with the canals being almost dry.

One of the best kept secrets in North Florida. 2,000 acre Lake Sampson sits pretty much right on top of the Alachuan aquifer and has maintained its traditional level over the decades. This is one of the best fishing lakes in the area with some Big Girls also being pulled out of adjoining Lake Rowell. Very few residences on the lake with tons of wildlife of all types. Only 1 public ramp that I am aware of, so lake traffic is very light.
