Campsites are in major need of overhaul. They really weren't cleaned well after each use. We have had campsites at Bockman and North Michigan that get flooded when it rains. Restrooms were pretty clean.
This is my second time camping here. I am a big fan of space 332, which gives you a beautiful view to the west down the valley. Also, space 337 is awesome. After walking the campground a few times I think space 324 would also be a winner. The bathrooms at this campground are incredibly clean – – thank you staff! There are dumpsters for your garbage, but there is no running water in the campground so be sure to fill up with water either at the visitor center or at the dump station. Even on the Fourth of July weekend the campground was really quiet despite being at full capacity. On July 4 weekend, even with temperatures in the high 60s nighttime temperatures were in the 30s and we woke up to frost on the 10th. Bring warm clothes!
CPW plant some trees please, the winds and sun can be a bit much. Some trees would provide shade and help block the winds eventually.
Overall a great campground. Not much for kids in the actual loop. But the lake isn't too far.
Heard the wolves howling at 5a one morning. Totally awesome, even if the locals are mad about reintroduction.
Think my next visit I will do one of the primitive sites.
Bathrooms are super clean, campground was will cared for. Only minute issue was that most of the spots are set up to back in trailers, but they are oriented the wrong way on the one way roundabout so you have to go the wrong way and hope nobody comes out when you're going in.
Nice out of the way place, boondocking at its best, we used our generators for power, the wild like moves through the campground, beautiful area mountains with snow caps. The only issue we experienced was the water supply was off due to a bad pump. We had to go a mile or so to the entrance for water. Otherwise no complaints.
Nice campground but with the lack of trees you feel a little packed in when your neighbor is not very far from you I would say we were within 15 ft of the next campsite. So it's hard to feel like you're camping when you're looking right at the people next to you but it is a nice location
Would have given 5 stars if not for the cattle right on the edge of our campsite all weekend. CPW leases this land and ranchers graze their cattle here, which happened to hang out by campground all weekend. I heard plenty of 'city folk' talk about hearing the moose, those were mooing cows lol. Great views though. Would be nice if there were some better hiking trails near the campground.
This is one of our favorite parks to visit. We've been in several of the camp sections and have liked them all for different reasons. There are clear signs of improvements being made (planting young trees) to help the area recover from years of pine beatles and forest fires. There are several different hikes you can go on for varying skill levels. And we always see wildlife while here. This trip so far was a mother doe and her two yearling does walking through camp.
If your looking for real camping here you go. No phone service closest store is 18 miles away. Loads of walking area. Quiet saw a moose, some deer, wild life everywhere! Awesome.
Love the time at Bockman Campground. Bathroom were well maintain. The view can be describe as "Wow". We were able to hear the moose but did not see one. The 4x4 trails are amazing... The wife and I had fun on the trail and great view on top Bull Mountain, Kiwi and attempted Ruby Jewel Road. Ruby Jewell Road the rocks got bigger and hail during the attempt. We will be back with better tires and suspension.
The drive up to State Forest State park and the Bockman campgrounds was gorgeous. Coming from the Colorado Springs area seeing the green was truly beautiful. We are tent campers and will definitely need some extra support to sleep on when we visit next time. We are also going to try for a camp a little bit closer to the water. This camp site is great for hikers, but there isn't easy access to the lake.
Lots of trails for side x sides or any toy you want to ride. Facilities were clean and maintained. Park rangers were very nice and helpful. Just a great camping trip.
The park staff is very friendly. The campgrounds are clean and maintained. The only draw back was no drinking water. I dont know what was going on but all the spigots were covered up.
