What clients say about Household Hazardous Waste in Boulder (CO)
-
Boulder county residents, with proof of residency can handover household waste. If you are a company, please call to set up appointment, rules different. People are friendly, see website for details on items accepted, if stuck check also CHaRM on Arapahoe in Boulder for other items that are hard to recycle as well.

I cannot believe it was free to recycle our old halogen lights. Yay to our awesome cities for allowing residents this service! You can also get free cleaning products, paints, stains, etc. that people donated but are still usable. There is a little store set up on the left when you walk in and it's all free!! Recycling of materials at the BCHMMF is free for residents of Boulder, Broomfield, and (I believe) Erie. The flyer in the photos covers the details on 5 local recycle centers.

They were able to take my old aerosols, a half full propane torch container, and some assorted household chemicals and flammables I am not able to move cross country! They were also super nice.

So great that you can take materials here to be safely disposed of, and also that you can get some paint/stain/cleaning/crafting supplies that others have dropped for free. Thanks to Boulder county for offering this service! Heads up that you need an ID with a Boulder county address to drop stuff of here.

Super easy and quick! Also they have free cleaners, paints and stains for reuse!

I'm in the middle of a move and have a good number of paints, weed killers, and cleaners that I needed to dispose of safely and easily. I've made two trips to this facility and both teams the process could not have been easier. I was able to load everything onto a cart and all it took was a quick check of my ID (the whole thing is free since I'm a resident of Erie) and I was on my way. The staff is always welcoming and nice, and their service is a huge help in relieving stress related to needing to get rid of these materials. I'm also a big fan of the fact that they put out materials that can be re used for free, so people can come pick up what they need. All in all, this facility is so smooth and I love the way they operate!

Amazing, easy, have your ID and that's it. Maybe pick up a spare can of a cool color for yourself on the way out! Thanks guys.

Limited hours is a constraint. After clearing my home and garage of hazardous waste over the weekend, I wanted to drop them off on Monday. Had to wait until Wednesday. I bet this causes other people to just find an unattended dumpster & throw away hazardous waste, instead of waiting.

Always "gone for lunch" and when they actually are there, no one know what they are doing...

Just dropped off a years’ worth of dead batteries from AA to C and D, along with 9 volt and button batteries. I collected them in a container and take them in about once a year. They will check your ID to verify you live in an area that is free to recycle (check the website). They want the batteries dumped out on their carts, not in a container. It was quick and easy. Check the website for details. I just reviewed the website this time to check on hours. I discovered” The terminals on lithium batteries and batteries that are 9 volts or higher MUST be taped with clear tape so that we can clearly read the labels and and to reduce the risk of sparking a fire.” I have not recycled any lithium batteries before but have recycled 9 volt. I asked about taping 9 volt batteries, which I did, and they said it was not necessary.

Great place to recycle materials and a nice collection of materials to reuse.

This facility and it's staff are a treasure for Boulder County! Please use this resource and keep hazardous waste out of landfills and ground and water!

The staff was really cool. Even though my business partner and I were an hour late to our appointment due to my non understanding of the scheduling. They still allowed us time to get the recycled materials we needed to finish our project. Thank you so much!

Soviet Union, 1975. That's what this place reminds me of (and I lived in the SU for three years...I know). Some petty bureaucrat, a demi-god not to be challenged, makes up the rules, and employees carry out the rules blindly...reason does not apply. What other store lets only one customer at a time come in at this date? No one....nobody else does this. Boulder Resource across the street, a similar kind of an operation with a similarly sized indoor shopping area, doesn't do this. Neither do Habitat for Humanity Re-store places. Neither do Home Depot, clothing stores, the grocery stores, hardware stores, JoAnn fabrics, or Target. And why? Because wearing a mask and standing 6' away is sufficient.. The rule setter will probably tell us it's about safety, but my doctors (who do know better than most of us... certainly better than the rule maker at this waste store) don't do this in their offices. It seems to me it's about government workers who don't give a rat's @%% about customer service, just because they don't have to care. They get paid the same whether they're working or not, and this way they only have to be bothered waiting on a handful of people a day. And nobody is safer. The only phone number posted outside for making an appointment apparently doesn't apply to the store, and nobody answered that phone. Both are good tactics for making sure the employees don't have to work too hard actually dealing with customers.

Making an appointment online was really easy. They accepted all of my batteries, old and half used cleaning supplies, and paints. It was all free. I wish I had done this sooner.

Glad I have a place to get rid of some chemicals safely or even buy some used paint and stuff so it doesn't go to waste

I am appreciative to have this facility in Boulder. The issue for me is the strange hours, and closing for lunch... Seems everytime I go, I have to return at a different time....makes it quite difficult to properly dispose of paint, etc. Google has one set of hours, and their website another... Ugh...

I am all for taking care of our Earth. I pay Todayto compost and recycle and I lead the Green Star school program at my school. However, I took 8 containers of fluids to Ecocycle because I did not know what they were. I didn't want to pour them out. My son had left them in my backyard. It ended up costing me $450.00. I had no choice but to pay it. I had to put this on my credit card because I couldn't afford this amount. Some of the liquids were not hazardous, but I had to pay for the disposal anyway. It made me want to dump the liquids next time. Could there be some way of testing and not charging as much if not necessary?? I want to save this precious planet but I can't afford some of the methods being used to save it.

Great way to get free plant fertilizer and carpet cleaner. Must live in participating community to use this facility. Open on Saturdays.

An easy way to get rid of those household chemicals you don't want any more. And a great way to get free chemical supplies that you only need to use a little of and don't want to have leftovers you won't use.

This is a fantastic resource both to drop stuff off and get stuff. My "maker" daughter loves to go there while working on projects and even picked up a can of artificial aerosol snow once...I think one-star David must have gone to the wrong place

This facility makes it easy and convenient to dispose of hazardous waste. The staff was also very helpful and friendly.

ALWAYS a positive experience. Courteous staff and the fact that a lot of the paints and other items get recycled by folks who bring, then take is a win win in my book.

The epitome of government failure in action. This is the only place to take your old paints, however they are often open only 3 days a week for very limited hours. For anyone who works normal hours, the choice becomes either toss all of your stuff in the trash, or find some poor, unlucky helper who will take in your paint on their behalf (probably not "acceptable" either) and pray to God it's not a government holiday (every other day). For those of you with more than 20 gallons (pretty much anyone doing a renovation or build), that's the cap per day, so plan on spending a month getting rid of your paints by the time you factor in government holiday/work schedules.
