Knowledgeable. Very sterile environment. They will upsell you at every opportunity. Over the phone, I was quoted an $800-1400 repair. After their inspection, they decided they wanted to replace other components due to rust, and perform other maintenance, ballooning the total cost up to $2800!! If you want quality service at whatever cost, I’m sure they’ll do a good job, just don’t come here if you want a cost-effective solution.
Independent Motors is a wonderful shop. The folks behind the counter get you know you by your first name, treat you with respect and courtesy, and are honest and sincere. There are times that my total bill has come in less than the original estimate. There are never any upcharges or surprises on your final bill. I've been to many, many repairs shops in my life, and Independent Motors is now the only place I'll take my vehicle. Thanks especially to Greg and Sheila, you guys are amazing.
I just need to share. I've been a customer of Independent Motors for a couple years and I would trust no one but Independent Motors for all my automotive needs. From under the hood to brakes to tires. This is a superior auto mechanic shop. I have always felt comfortable there, everyone that works there are professional as well as friendly. I know how to drive a car and where to put the gas, after that I know nothing about cars. Thank the Mother Godess for Independent Motors... Independent Motors/Boulder Tire is one of the best in the game. Hands down! I went in on an emergency tire replacement before the holiday weekend and they replaced the tires and listened to some issues I noticed with my car, and they found the subject, and repaired with ease. Very grateful for them taking care of my vehicle and for their kindness. Christian and Greg run a great business and it makes sense why they’ve been around for so long.
Everyone here was great! These folks were friendly and knowledgeable. I was comfortable asking questions and never felt judged. When I called to see if they had avaliablity to do a pre purchase inspection on a vehicle they told me they were pretty full for the day but found a way to squeeze me in. I am SOO glad I brought it in. These guys saved me a ton of money and heartache. Would definitely recommend bringing your vehicle here.
This review is from my husband. Independent motors had the kindest service that he has ever seen. They spoke to all their customers in a professional and kind manner. They were so nice. They quoted and fixed our problem and it was a wonderful experience. We got the quote, parts order for our AC line and was repaired within the week. It was quick, reliable service and they stand behind their work. We appreciate their professional work.
We have a Honda CRV and spring break was around the corner. Without warning our car was experiencing problems. In a crunch, without an appointment they agreed to leaving our car with them and if they had a chance they would take a look. Going above and beyond, squeezing us in, addressing the issue as well as addressing items we weren't aware of got us back and running with a successful family road trip in under 2 days. We have a 2008 Toyota sienna van with 275,000, mi. We use the van for our business so it takes quite a beating with lots of mileage and hauling heavy supplies. The van has needed some TLC along with some technical expertise which the gang at independent motors have provided. They are professional, efficient and communicative. I've had a door handle replaced, passenger side mirror replaced and an engine mount replaced, along with regular yearly service. The van has not had any issues with the work thats been done and it actually is running better. They have a comfy reception area and a friendly office dog.
I just picked up my daughter’s car from getting major maintenance completed: replacing the timing belt and associated parts and seals, installing of new front lower control arms and replacing front sway bar endings and frame. I am so impressed on the workmanship. The car feels so smooth now. The employees at the front desk treat me with respect while explaining all services as well as giving recommendations for future maintenance. I feel valued as a customer and they give their best to return my daughter’s car in great working order. I give Independent Motors Ltd. & Boulder tire ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!!!
UPDATE: I had occasion to visit Independent Motors again today to find out if they could replace my windshield wipers which we THOUGHT they'd have to special order for my 2010 Mini Cooper.
Turns out the wipers on my mini are just standard wipers and they had them. They literally put them on IMMEDIATELY AND topped off my wiper fluid. ALSO I had wanted to watch the hood being opened because I could never do it myself and it was a source of major frustration. I was shown how it could be open EASILY - IF you pulled the lever inside of the car to UNLOCK IT!
Embarrassed was my obvious emotion BUT the bigger one was just LOVING this business establishment for the care I've gotten there. It's such a wonderful peace of mind knowing that for MOST maintenance needs I have found a place close to home that does a great job with reasonable prices and just the best people. Everyone seems really happy and eager to help which tells me that Greg (the owner) has created a business with integrity, skill, reasonable prices, and a staff that seems very happy to be working there. That's a recipe for success right? And for sure I'll be back for my next oil change!

JUST WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR! - I have an almost 14 year old mini cooper with only 41,100 miles on it. Lately i've had to spend big bucks for maintenance and repair. And after being disappointed by some local shops I started going back to the dealer which is in LOVELAND. I live in Gunbarrel and it's nearly 90 miles round trip! So the latch that pops my trunk broke on Sunday. I could UNLOCK the trunk but not open it. I decided to look around for a local shop that could help. ONE of the shops I called wanted me to leave it there ALL day to assess the problem. I saw some good reviews for Independent Motors so I called and Greg, the first person I spoke with, said I could bring it in that day (which was Monday). It was literally right across the way from Osteostrong where I had an appointment. I went in, and a wonderful young man named Brandon helped me - came out to my car and actually was able to futz with the latch and get the trunk POPPED but he confirmed what I suspected from the crunchy sound and feel of the mechanism: The latch couldn't be repaired and had to be replaced which included a whole pied of what I'd previously thought of as chrome trim which housed the latch mechanism. $160 for the part and about 1/2 hour labor is what Brandon said it would cost. I told him to order the part and he did. Yesterday he called to tell me the part had come in and it would be around 1/2 hour to replace it.
I took it in today and barely got my ipad turned on and reading email and playing a game of chess online when Brandon came out to tell me it was finished. The bill for the part AND labor was only $252. And it's only about 12 min from where I live.
Brandon walked me out to my car to show me that the new latch is a bit stiffer because IT'S NOT BROKEN! I wonder now, how long the latch was in the process of breaking completely because it's felt kind of squishy for a long time.
I'm SO happy to have found this shop so near to me and so reliable and accommodating and REASONABLE!
I'll be going back in a month or two for an oil change and anything else that the mini needs (other than recall for the footwell module which SHOULD be covered by the dealer when they FINALLY figure out how to fix them! - I hope it's BEFORE it catches on fire - which is the reason for the recall!).

I love this business! The team is on top of everything and flexible with changes in my schedule. I bought solid tires from them and they take care of the rotations and alignment consistently with ease. Overall an efficient and excellent quality service!
They are the best. I struggled with an intermittent electrical issue with my Traverse and was in and out of the dealer shop several times with $1000's spent and a vehicle that still wouldn't start every two weeks or so.
I explained my problem to Greg and that my wife was going to make me buy a new car if it couldn't get fixed. I left my vehicle and they reproduced the issue and fixed it. It's been 8 months with no further electrical issues.
Don’t waste your time taking your vehicle anywhere else.
A pre purchase inspection at Independent motors just saved me from spending $7,000 & likely being stranded on the side of the highway due to a piece of junk car that I was looking at buying.
Sheila and the whole team did excellent work, were easy to work with, super friendly, and were not condescending towards someone that doesn’t know a lot about cars.

I took my truck there to get my oil changed and this is the first place that I came to where they weren’t trying to sell me more than I came for. They were quick, clean, and efficient. Not to mention the prices are affordable! They welcomed my 5 month old puppy inside with treats while we waited. It was a great experience all around. I will definitely be coming back to have my vehicle serviced in the future.
I found Independent Motors from Google Reviews looking for a local mechanic that specialized in older Lexus models. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working with Greg and his team. They did a full diagnostic on my "new" 2002 Lexus RX300 and we set up a two-phase approach for prioritizing maintenance. Everything was very clearly communicated and I appreciated the way his team helped me prioritize and explore alternatives. I also appreciated that this shop is linked with a tire shop - Greg got me an excellent price for a new set of All Weather tires which kicked @$$ during the last snow storm. Also, my Lexus is running so smoothly.
We brought my husband's Ford Fusion here for new tires and they also got us a fabulous price on a new set of tires, which included a lifetime of rotations and repairs under warranty.

Had a ball joint go on my 2013 outback. Needless to say this is a costly fix, I know because I was a Service Writer for repair shops for 15 years. Greg handled the situation with professionalism and to the point diagnosis. They had my car done in a few business days and for a very fair price due to Greg's effort to find fairly priced Subaru parts for my car. There was even a noise after, but they found a non-genuine bolt causing the noise and repaired it immediately with minimal additional cost. I would highly recommend Independent Motors for car maintenance and repairs. 5 stars and thumbs up!
The early drop off and late pick up are great if you have a strict work schedule. I appreciate that they always take the time to explain everything and their detailed receipts. As someone who doesn't know much about cars I felt like I could trust them way more than other mechanics I went to in the past. Been taking my Nissan to them for 4 years and moving out of Boulder is the only reason I won't continue to do so.
I honestly wouldn't go anywhere else in Colorado. They have saved me thousands of dollars in repairs by finding cheaper solutions and giving me honest feedback. Many years ago I was told I needed an entirely new transmission for my Jeep from a different shop and it was going to cost over $3,000. Independent motors told me that they could repair it and charged me about a thousand. I never had an issue with the transmission again. Since then I've taken my manual Tacoma in multiple times when it was having issues and they often times resolved those issues and didn't even charge me. (Ie loose bolts on my clutch pedal. They could have told me it was something else but instead they tightened it and fixed it free of charge. Issues with my power steering wound up just being a loose belt. Again, they fixed free of charge.) Many situations they could have been dishonest because I honestly don't know better... but instead they gave me accurate information, fair prices and amazing customer service. Whenever I call I ask for Greg. I'm sure everyone else is great too but he's incredible. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who is nervous or distrusting of shops. You can trust these guys and they do great work.
The gentlemen here were very professional when asking for a general tune up on my car before leaving on a cross country trip. They did an all around inspection of the motor, tires and fluids before letting me know that I had some other major issues that needed to be addressed that I was unaware of. It was a genuine concern of theirs that I make it safely across the country on my trip without breaking down. After agreeing to fix some other major components the job actually came under budget which was a pleasant surprise. I would highly recommend this establishment and would return to have work done in the future. They definitely went the extra mile to ensure that I would have a safe trip and made sure to havey car done within one day as promised.
I had to replace my license plate and the rear screws were corroded to the point where I could not remove them. Stopped by while running errands and they came out, removed and replaced them on the spot. This kind of personal service is woefully absent in many businesses and much appreciated.
I also use Independent Motors to service my 4-Runner and take care of its tires. Service is uniformly fantastic and very reasonably priced.
Today I had an unexpected issue with not one but two tires with a nail. The people at Independent got me in quickly and repaired both in under 1 hour. They will remain the most trusted and friendly service company I have ever known.
I wholeheartedly recommend Independent Motors for your vehicle needs in Boulder! Jason (and the rest of the staff) has provided excellent service in the past year. I had a difficult issue with a lemon of a used car purchased for my daughter and Jason was incredibly patient in helping me understand the repairs needed and analyzing whether it was worth it or not. Later, after I ended up deciding to get a different vehicle, he help analyze the choices and ultimately I used Independent Motors to replace tires and care for both my and my daughters vehicles. I do not have knowledge of vehicles - so I need to have someone I trust. I trust Jason, Greg and the other staff. Just today, after getting oil changes in both cars, I left the lot and my turn signal wasn't working. They got me right back in, replaced several bulbs that were out (requiring putting it on the jack) and only charged the bulb cost. I feel respected when I have my car serviced (even though I know nothing about cars). I have to say - I was embarrassed about how often I called Jason when I was struggling with the lemon-used-car issue, but he never made me feel bad for asking questions and gave me well reasoned answers. Highly recommended.
I just had my 150K mile service on my 2003 Lexus RX300. They have serviced my car since I purchased it new in 2003. I couldn't be more pleased. They also had to replace my power steering pump (discovered issue during service). We had to wait a few more days for the part. In the meantime, they gave me a loaner. Over the years I have had nothing but exceptional service. I don't know the first thing about cars. Jason (at the front desk) has always been able to help me understand what's up. I can then make an informed decision as to timing and cost of any needed repairs. I also buy my tires there and get free rotation and balancing when needed. I have no doubt that my car will last another 150K miles under their care. Thanks Independent Motors!!
My family and I have used Independent Motors for a very long time, (around 35 years I think), trusting them with old cars and new to do anything needed. They always do great work, carefully, correctly and quickly, are excellent at leveling with the customer about what needs to be done immediately or can wait to be done in future. The customer service is as superb as their mechanical work, it doesn't come better than this. I can't thank them enough for their excellent service. They are simply the best.
I took my 2010 Lexus in to have some needed suspension work done. No work ever done on the suspension, so … I have to say I am really happy with the work, but more than that the customer service was exceptional. I dealt with Greg and he was super friendly and treated me with respect and patience and made me feel like I was a highly valued long-time customer, rather than the first timer I was. Today I returned because I had some tire questions that I was hoping to get answered before a long road trip in the car. Luis helped me and was as helpful and gracious as Greg was and helped me to feel great about the trip to come. Independent Motors/ Boulder Tire just earned anew loyal customer. Thank again guys.

I was faced with the dreaded blown head gasket with my Subaru Outback earlier this year... Not only did they fix my car quickly, they were honest and upfront during the entire process, something I appreciate.
My car is running better than it ever has and I've even brought in my Ford F150 to have some work done to it. I'd been taking the Ford to a dealership in Lakewood for the past two years and not once did they tell me about a PCM update that was available. Plus, I was tired of being asked if I wanted to trade it in every time I brought it in for an oil change or recall repair. Needless to say, I got the update and the truck has been running great ever since.
I've been happy with everything from service to prices and continue to bring in my vehicles for oil changes, check ups, and tires. I will continue to have each of my current vehicles serviced here and plan to bring in anything I get in the future.

Nothing but excellent, professional work from the gentlemen at this shop. When I initially showed up and spoke with Jason at the front desk, he didn't hesitate to direct me straight to Patton, whom ended up doing the build on my 95 tacoma. After several conversations with Patton I gave the go ahead to do the full Toytec Boss kit with Nitto trail grapplers sitting on some American Racing Wheels. I have absolutely zero complaints with any part of my experience at Independent Motors and would absolutely recommend them for your next project!
I recently went to Independent Motors for a possible engine coolant flush. When I arrived the staff was friendly and assured me that they would check out the problem and call me before doing any work. I promptly received a phone call from Sean where I was informed that this was a bigger problem than it appeared. They discovered the intake manifold valve was leaking oil in the coolant. Sean explained the situation to me and my options. He was very patient answering my questions and honestly told me his opinion on whether this repair was worth it because of the age of my car (I have a 1999 Buick Century). I felt like I fully understood the problem after it was clearly explained to me. I chose not to go for the big repair and I felt respected for my decision and never once did I feel pressure from anyone to do the repair, or any unnecessary work. With that being said, every interaction with staff from Independent Motors was a positive one. From the initial phone call to make the appointment, to the drop off of my vehicle, to the friendly shuttle service provided by Bill (the owner), I felt taken care of and in good hands. I highly recommend Independent Motors for their honest, reliable, friendly, and sincere staff and work ethic. I won't be taking my car anywhere else. I am so grateful to have found such a great repair shop.
