Everyone there was very nice. Gentleman inside even pointed out I had multiple radiators in my trailer and to separate them because they pay more for it
I went to empire steel today Saturday July 26 2025 to recycle my copper and I got lowest price then I and he said that was magnetic and it is not so we want the right price for it for 220 lbs of solid copper at the going price
It was quick in and out. Was only paid $150 for roughly 3,500 lbs of scrap steel. I think this is low. Also you can read the scale coming in but the display screen coming out is broken so you just have to trust them. I’ll find a different scrap yard next time.
Their “outbound scale readout” is the same as their inbound. The true outbound readout is broken or turned off. Depending on your vehicle or trailer you cannot read the scale on your way out as it is now behind your vehicle and trailer. You might be able to make it out in a side mirror but would be quite difficult without fully getting out of your vehicle to get a direct look at it.
I don't blame the workers. They tried giving me 17 cents a pound for carbide inserts, they told me they would pass it as stainless steel because it wasn't magnetic. I guess I'll have to find another place. Some more training needs to take place. Carbide goes for at least $5 lb.
Edit: A very quick response, thank you! I was just told that I could only get 17 cents a pound, and that was it, period. So I just walked away. (With all of my carbide, of course.) I'll be back tomorrow? I guess I have to come in the office. I'll call.

Don’t go here to sell your metal. When I went here they claimed 200lbs to be dirty when it was clean. I should have at least got $1 lbs if not $2 like I’ve gotten in Sacramento. But only got .40 a lbs. what a rip off
You won't make any money on scrap metal you bring here. You basically bring it here so you don't have pay to get rid of it. About enough money for gas getting there and that's it. I had my 5×8 trailer filled with scrap and I got $13.
Just went in to turn in some wire, got there right at 430, they were nice and said they would take care of me. They took in what I had and I was ready to leave. Unfortunately my truck wouldn't start. The only 2 guys left Thomas and another gentleman (I didn't get his name) help me try to jump it, got under my truck, helped my husband and when nothing worked Thomas offered to pull my truck to the front. Fortunately when my husband went to put it in neutral it started up.

Friendly service, easy on and off scales, green light to tell me when to go without having to get out was nice. I wasn't quite sure where to drop, so the equipment operator in the yard signaled where so that was very helpful too. Only downside is the dusty yard. I'll definitely bring more business here.
Went to recycle some aluminum cans and some scrap copper wire. The employees were very friendly and explained about the 3 day waiting period for recycling copper. (New state law.) Everything weighed out as it should have. They got my business from now on.
This place will try to rip you off!!!! They tried to offer me $10 dollars for a large GM bead catalytic converter when average market scrap value is 170 and ^ shoot if anyone plans on That I'll pay $15 at least then someone honest can cash out on that rip.
I've used Empire Steel for years, they are a great place to use to get rid of junk that seems to just collect over time. I never asked for money just glad to get rid of it. Great people and great help when I needed it.
Just being honest if you are a life long Yuba Sutter resident like me you probably know this already but Empire steel has kept a bad name with the residents of the area because thay have the lowest prices in town and in the past have kept a bad record with the lowest prices
Came in here twice. The first time was to recycle some copper and aluminum. The second was to prove this place is robbing their customers. It seemed like i got maybe 30% of what i was owed, so i came back after weighing out close to 20 lbs of copper. I used 3 scales and the average weight was 19.7 lbs (19.8, 19.5,19.5). And 5 lbs of aluminum. I am a father of 3 who is umemployed due to the health of my wife and the mental state of one of my children. I needed gas and food. I am not a tweaker looking for a fix. Just trying to get by until my unemployment kicks in. They gave me $14. Weighed the 19.7 lbs of copper at 9.1 and the aluminum at 2.3. Got less than half for both. Not only that, but they downgraded my #1 copper to #2 copper. This was perfectly clean copper tubing.
I did this test to prove to future customers that this place will rob you if you let them. Dont come here.
