Used to be able to drop little stuff for free if you're a resident, but not anymore -- Despite what they confirmed multiple times over the phone. I understand they can't take stuff for free anymore but it would be great if they could convey that to their own customer service reps.

In June of 2025 I dropped off hazardous materials including paint and medical waste. The staff were kind and helpful, giving me instructions for my waste drop off as well. The guy that weighed the vehicle beforehand even gave me a Jolly Rancher :).

Being that we pay for this service it’d be nice if they could return the trashcan to the side walk and not in the middle of the driveway. It wasn’t on the driveway so why push it there? Can’t park when I get home pretty annoying.. seems harder to push it into the driveway vs leaving it on the sidewalk too makes no sense

Every night of the week, these so called "people" raving their diesel engines while recklessly driving against the traffic on one-way streets of San Francesco. The4y are terrorizing multiple blocks of residents and making excessive noise by moving dumpsters starting at 2 am and all throughout the day. Their schedule is unpredictable and random. There are mostly handicapped and elderly low-income housing here. Poor residents are literally sleep deprived and waiting for help that never comes and pleading for quiet nights. People are suffering and heaving health issues because of torturous sleepless nights. Please someone put an end to noise at night. Show quoted text

I came here last year to recycle electronics and had a great experience. Today was nothing like that. I visited 7/27/2024 at 2pm, and the staff at the window were rude and sarcastic. I told them I only had cardboard to recycle and asked them if I could do so without spending $60. They told me no and to leave if I didn't like the price. Reading these reviews, I see there is indeed a cheaper alternative at Recology Pier 96. I wish the staff at Recology SF would've told me that today instead of having to find out on my own. Hoping management addresses this and employs people with better attitudes and a willingness to help the public.

On Wednesday November 22, Recology failed to pick up and empty our gray, and our green, trash bins. The neighbors’ were also not emptied. The blue recycle bin was emptied per the usual Wednesday pickup. It is now Friday afternoon and the bins are still sitting on the sidewalk, full. I attempted to telephone Recology but just reached a recording, and their voicemail was not accepting messages. This is contrary to our usual, fine service. I am sorry to have to file this complaint.

Poor customer service, Stacey. Drivers lie that they have serviced bins! Liar! No credit back for miss pick ups! No supervisor call back to get miss pick ups credits! They just like ripping customers off! City of SF sued them for overcharging the City several years ago! And we’ve received money back but we also taxed on it! Taxed on stolen money that Recology stole in the first place?! Freaking ridiculous!

Wow this place is so well run. Did you know SF residents get free hazardous material disposal (and they’ll even come to your house to pick it up!)? You can also dump anything you want for reasonable prices and the experience is really great and quick. Covered dump area that is really clean and well run.

UPDATE: The supervisor called and was super nice and they collected the trash and gave a direct number in case this happens again, so updating my review!!!!! For some reason, 5 weeks ago they stopped collecting my trash and have not collected it in 5 weeks. Their customer service team is nice, yet each time they say someone will come pick it up...no one comes. Even more strange, they pick up our compost and recycling, which is right next to it. Please just collect my trash.

First impression was really good. VERY very clean, super organized, professional, great employees, clear signs, things are in good order. I had been looking everywhere for a place to safely get ride of my laptop and printer since so many places don’t accept those things. I called and they were happy to help me and give me options. Great hours, too. Thank you for wonderful service. Happy holidays to the team. good people there :)

All dumps have a min. It's all about how much time you want to spend on the trip. Across the way at Blue Line the min was $40 last I checked but it takes you an hour to get in and out. I never waited at this location. I only wished they were open Saturdays.

A fine dump, but note there's a **$50 MINIMUM** regardless of how much stuff you have to drop off, which would've been great to know ahead of time. I just had some extra cardboard/boxes to get rid of that wouldn't fit in our bin, normally dumps go by weight but a $50 minimum is a bit ridiculous.

We've been here a few times. First time 9 years ago when we move to SF and the house had a lot of junk to get rid off. It was drive in and dump. Can't remember how much it was then but not expensive. Then we had 1-800-junk come take some stuff, not much but that was $350 min. During covid we dropped off some paint and that was free. This time round we dropped off a car full of junk which they weigh before at the entrance and then after we dumped and it was $50. $50 is the min per visit. So if you have time and energy and transportation, this is the cheapest way to get rid of large amt of trash.

They make it difficult to return anything that isn't profitable for them.. as a resident, unless you're a business there's almost no value in being a good citizen and dropping off the trash.. just go with a service and tell them to come and get it

A waste if time and gas. Telephone Customer Service directed me there with inaccurate, incomplete information. The guy at the gate/scale was also less than helpful, directing me to Pier 96, with more falsehoods about hours of operations and materials they accept. The rating should be three piles of canine excrement.

DO NOT DUMP CARDBOARD HERE. There is a Recology recycling center on Pier 97 that will pay you for cardboard, if you take it here you have to pay at least $50. They explained this to me and told me how to get there; facility looks clean, line was short, staff was nice.

Was able to recycle 150 lbs of moving boxes and styrofoam for $50. There was a line of cars waiting to get in at 7am but it moves pretty quick as there are about a dozen drop off stalls

The employees here show a total lack of coordination, that could lead to an accident. As I drive into the building, the first guy at the entrance says "Go all the way to the end". The next guy (only half way down) says "park here". Then there's a guy right next to him that points me to the very NEXT spot, like they aren't sure which bay they want me to park in! They obviously aren't communicating with each other at all. Problem is, in order to back into that spot, (the 3rd one I was directed to), it would have caused an accident with the skip loader, who was cleaning up the adjacent spot, and had to back out to leave. Thats right where I would have to pull forward, in order to back into the 3rd spot I was directed to. The 2nd spot I was directed to actually would have been safer, keeping some space between my vehicle and the skip loader. Putting me right next to the loader made no sense at all, especially since it was in motion. Anyway, seeing that these employees were sadly uncoordinated, I just stopped my truck, until the skip loader was out of the way. I had to take responsibility for my own safety, and not depend on the Keystone Cops for effective direction. This is a total breakdown in safe procedures, with three different employees directing me to three different spots. An accident is very likely to occur here, with such poor coordination between these workers. Also, when I was first pulling into the building, the 1st guy at the entrance motions me to move forward, but he is actually standing in the way of the entrance, so there's no room to pull up. He just got done backing another customer out, who was at the wrong building, and had lots of trouble backing up. After dealing with that situation, this employee at the entrance is flustered, agitated. He's lost his composure and bearing, and doesn't realize he's now standing fully in the way of vehicle traffic. He should be standing to the side, at least enough for a vehicle to get by him. He's looking down at some paperwork in his hands, and evidently doesn't realize he's actually standing too far over, in the center of the entrance, blocking my advance. He motions a second time for me to advance, still not realizing he's blocking the entrance. When he finally looks up, he moves out of the way to my left, but only slightly! I pull up, still squeezed a bit too far to the right, and he says something rude, but to the effect of "Are you done holding up the line?" Rude, unnecessary, and just flat out wrong. Why does a customer have to take this? The circus of employees here may be low paid, high-turnover, low-skilled, BUT, its not enough to just say "it is what it is"- Management must train these employees to communicate better, spot potentially dangerous situations better, not give out conflicting directions, and never look down when waving vehicles through the entrance. And not be rude to the customer, especially when it's your own fault! This circus of Keystone Cops is going to produce an accident sooner or later here. All the necessary ingredients are in place to facilitate this. Just a matter of time.

Their offices are closed due to Covid, but no mention of this on their website. There was a useless note on their door stating to ring a bell for dropoffs, but nobody answered. Somebody poked their head out but quickly disappeared after they saw me. No instruction on how to drop off electronics, misleading information on their website.

Always an easy and hassle free spot to take all the junk you want to get rid of. The recycling/refund line is always super long, but that's a different line so just go right in if you are only there to drop off trash and/or bulk items.

If youre looking for a garbage collection facility near or at San Francisco this is the place for you, they weigh your truck/ vehicle no eyeballing and personnel are courteous dont forget to cover your haul its the rule

Good place to dump practically everything, their minimum is $50 as of 2019. When you drive in look to the right, there should be a person guiding you with instructions on where to go next, the first line to the right is for pay back recycle, the second line further in is the scale for general dumping.

Scheduled an extra trash/recycling pickup for the black/blue bins. Left it outside right after we called on Thursday for a Friday pickup. Trash was never picked up and when we called in they said that the guy never saw the bins outside. That's a lie! We left it out there since 6pm the night before and it's been sitting outside for over 18 hours.

I like everything else. Except the price. They charge by weight. $184+ per ton. If you have less or half they just charge you the amount of weight you have, but I feel it a little pricey.

I came here on Saturday at 3:08 pm. As I pulled in to the lot, one of the workers hand flashed me to stop and said we're closed as he showed me three of his five fingers. Guess that was his way of letting me know they close at 3 even though the website states that they are open until 4:30. So, If your going to the dump on Saturday, don't wait until 3 like I did. Also, you should know they have raised their rates and it is now a $50 minimum charge to bring your stuff to the dump.

The cleanest dump I've ever been too! Everything is neatly separated and recycled! I guess I was expecting something very different! My father and I used to go to an outdoor landfill! I was always so excited to go! Eww! Back to SF Recology! Go green! They have plants at the beginning and ending of the facility. I grabbed a small start of Aloe Vera to plant in my garden! The customer service is always good! I've been here at least 5 times and never waited in a long line. The men are always helpful. You get in and out! My favorite thing about this place is the creativity! I love to see the art! They have windmills on top of the hill. I posted a picture below. Can't wait to see what's next!

Dropped off a bunch of junk from our move. The guys working here were incredibly friendly. And a (very) full SUV load of junk only cost $40 to drop, since we were still within the smallest weight allowance

What retards!!! I drive up to the drop off point for hazardous waste disposal and I proceed to give the douche my address this waste came from not knowing he wouldn't take it because my address doesn't match my ID. I didn't have time to change my address yet and then I asked if I could use the address on my ID (an SF address) and he wouldn't let me. What sucks is I've been in contact with them through email and NEVER ONCE did he say anything about ID must match address!!! So I had to inconvenience my boyfriend and make him leave work so he can come down to the dump to show them his ID since I have the car loaded up. What a waste of time. It wasn't like I was trying to be shady or anything. I just wanted to dispose of household chemicals and paint properly.
