Let's be honest, I only use J&D because it’s the last viable spot in the area. But it’s worth the trip! I am an aluminum can evangelist and tend to save my stash until I hit "paydirt"—usually an easy $70 to $80 payout. Yes, they pay by weight, but if you’re a dedicated CRV collector like me, the money is fair. The staff here deserves a raise; they are lightning fast and move mountains of cans and bottles without making you feel guilty about your recycling addiction. I also saw they have a new drop-off feature using an app and a QR-coded bag, so you can dump your hoard and run. I need the immediate gratification of cash, so I haven't tried it yet, but it's a brilliant way to save time! If you’re willing to drive a little further, this is where you reclaim your money and your garage space.

Great place to recycle all kinds of metals (aluminum, copper), plastic, glass.

Very rude employees. I look at their website, there are cardboards in the pictures. So I assume they accept cardboards. I even called beforehand, but no one answered the phone for 10 mins. So i decided to visit them. After I arrived, an employee comes out of no where and start inspecting my cars. They saw the cardboards in my car and started waving fingers right in front of my face and yelling “no” repeatedly. I was trying to walk to the window to ask more questions. He blocked me and keeps waving fingers on my face. I tried to explain but they don’t seem to understand English. The behavior is very close to human assault.

Now that the CRV has been cut to .05 per container under 24oz, this is no longer worth the time it takes to even separate them out of the garbage, let alone drive there. The whole system of getting your deposit back has been made so difficult to frustrate customers into just taking the recycling weight, which right now is 9% less than CRV value. This is a huge ripoff. Not to mention you can only redeem 50 containers at a time and have to go to the back of the line for each 50 you want to redeem. You're waiting in line for who knows how long to get $2.80 cents each time. it's not worth the fuel to drive there. This is a scam. Perfectly "legal" as JD recyclers will state. Of course they like it because they make a fortune praying on people that can't afford to not bring containers in by weight and don't have the time to go through the line over and over again to get their money back. California doesn't need to charge a deposit to get these cans and bottle back. There are more than enough people that scour the trash to get these for the material weight. Which is about a third of the amount they get paid per pound of aluminum whey they sell the cans you bring them. I will bring in the rest of the containers I have and then never do this again.

This company is inhumane . Went to recycle and they have one guy doing all work with no break or restroom. I will be reporting this to the labor industrial relations department.

These guys are crooked. There's no nicer way to say it. Brought in over 150' of insulated 7/0 copper, 100' feet of insulated braided alum and 25# of bare coarse aluminum braided wire. Their policy is to delay payment for 3 days for loads greater than $40. That's a mandate I suppose. I received a presentation from worker #1 lasting over 5 minutes explaining the requirements ie license plate and CDL # for orders over 40$. Worker #1 spoke with workers 2,3,and 4 and the consensus was this load would clearly amount to more than 40 bucks, and I was given several "workaround" options. Then the big cheese stepped in and told the 5 workers they misidentified each of the various grades and the balance would be considerably less. I pre weighed the bare aluminum before my arrival and there was a discrepancy of 4+ lbs between my scale and theirs. I know prices change all the time, and I am no stranger to scrapping. $29.00 out the door??. I think the fair price would have been closer to double that. Read the reviews. These guys are skimming half off the top. I know the big cheese has the most training, the best eye etc. But workers 3,4, and 5 are on the front line and put their actual hands on this material. They were consulted because of their familiarity and experience, and train those beneath them. If I'm wrong, this would suggest the workers are simply inept. But they seemed quite comfortable in their respective positions. Never ever again

Never coming here again, don't know how it's lesser than usual but I know back then I used to be able to get around $20 to $25 with the amounts of bottles I would normally get, but now they gave me LESS than $10 bucks, and at this point I might as well recycle my stuff elsewhere. This is just ridiculous. But it is what it is. I know better now.

Recycler beware.... this place will rip you off then say it was a mistake. TODAY I went there knowing to ask that they count my trash. When I went to the cashier i found out that they counted the large plastic comtainers as small ones. I am not someone who collects trash just want to redeem my deposit... I dont believe that Recology deserves the extra income since they always are raising our rates. Its always a mistake at this place. The San Mateo County Supervisors should.be ashamed of themselves for this ''project'' of not requiring the stores that sell and collect the deposit to refund the customer.. Is there a payofff somewhere???? My first visit to this place was a disaster. First of all be warned.. if you are not a '' professional'' collector of cans bottles and plastics you are in for a surprise. I just wanted to get the money I paid for my deposits back. My bottles and cans were quickly taken and weighed. I was paid $12.00 and change. Which was $10 less than what I paid in deposits. When I questioned the payment I was told I needed to state that before the man took my garbage to weigh. So warning to you all that just want your deposit back. Before anyone touches your recyclables let them know you want to be paid by the count. Also separate garbage according to material and size of container. If I go back i will just bring a few containers. Mollie Stones in Burlingame is much easier and you can do your shopping in a pleasant enviornment.

I'm only rating them 1 star because they NEVER answer the phone. I've never been there before. I have questions that need answered before I haul my scrap metal, to find out if they buy old engines. Do they need to be broken down first? How much do they pay for the various metals? I'll change my rating if they respond to this review and how their customer service is

This is one of the few places where you can get your recycle refunds. They are usually quite efficient, but it is a small space and can get quite crowded. I try to go at off hours, never on weekends. They open at 6 am.

The previous reviews are spot on- if you're bringing CRV aluminum cans or plastic it's great! They are very helpful and do their best to get everyone in and out and pay well. If you've got other scrap metal- copper, stainless, aluminum DON'T GO THERE. Prices they pay for those are well below market rate. 0.25 lb for stainless?????

Update the openness new location a while ago in Redwood City. The gentleman who takes the recycle and pays you has got to be the best associate I have ever dealt with. Great employee always a pleasure to work with. Thank you J&D for opening up a location close to my home. . Just like the other reviews said, Staff was very nice and helpful! But watch out for the customers. Rude and will cut in front if you're not careful. This is not for the weak recycler. I would be embarrassed to take a small quantity.

CRV is a scam created by the State of California. It’s essentially a tax for most because they make it so hard to get your money back. You should be able to get a CRV money at the same place you bought the beverage like in Canada. California doesn’t want you to get your money back and has created a cottage industry of folks who collect bottles for a living. Anyway J&D by Burlingame is one of the few places that still does recycling and where you can get your money back. Nice hard working folks and always friendly.

Very unhelpful The lady there is an idiot and doesn’t seem to like being there It seems like she doesn’t want to help people It was my first time there and didn’t know what to go and nobody would help me at first I would not go back there again Some of the guys were ok but it seemed like they were more interested In themselves than to help the customers

J & D has top notch employees who actually helped me sort my aluminum cans and plastic bottles! I like it when I'm not rushed. I wasn't rushed, and I left with money in my pocket. Nice!

A good place where I get back my deposit money when buying beverages. The workers act fast, move fast and pay fast. No hassle if you have done sorting out your containers at home. No sorting on site. Also, note that this place only pay by weights. I know that the government’s recycling site states you can choose to pay with the amounts printed on the container or by weights, but this place only offers the second option. Anyone that wants the first option should look elsewhere.

Honestly, recycling isn’t something optional anymore. It’s a requisite duty of the sustainable citizen. If we don’t take our CRV containers, plastics, and metals to centers like this, they enter the trash waste cycle and never get repurposed properly. AI and robots can help sort trash, but humans need to play their parts, too. Think of it like jury duty. No, it’s not convenient, but it’s part of living in America, and that’s pretty special all things considered. Please leave a tip for the hard working staff here before you leave!

This facility is quick and efficient. Every time I have been there, they always have a lot of customers but they manage to help everyone at a rapid clip.

These people have the best service in the business,. The location is on North Amphlett in San Mateo, CA .Everything must be separated before you come to this location, if it's not separated they will send you home and will not serve you, some people find a location nearby to separate their cans ,maybe around the corner, or a few blocks over, or near Park, they work fast ,they pay cash. Make sure to have your ID.

This place is terrible, the female helping weight your bottles are so unprofessional and she is very rude. Also she thinks that by being the manager's niece she can do whatever she wants. She is wrong. But The female that pays is the only one professional and cute.

I had about 10 big bags of cans and was afraid I might be there for a bit but they were so fast. I was there for about 8 minutes. Only issue is the odd parking spot.

Great service. If you have all your items sorted this process is fast also show up early for no lines! Most workers are very friendly, one not so much. They’re strict about you taking your own trash which is fine but don’t put the garbage in my car for me. (Yikes) Other than that small gesture, the pay out is ok and the workers are prompt, fast, & helpful. You’ll require ID for your first visit & payout at this facility. I have to say I have used many different centers & this is by far one of the best I’ve encountered. Easy, fast. & fair pay out seeing as to how many other centers are closed now. They don’t weigh it in front of you. *Carlos is super helpful* show up early.

This place is a joke they weigh your cans and plastic out of sight then give you very low weights. I turned in 7 trash cans 30 gallon sized. 4 crushed cans and 3 crushed plastics and wound up with 60$. Then when i asked why i wasnt allowed to see the weights they told me if i dont like it take it to San Francisco. Wouldnt adbise using this place. They definitely need to be aufited for weights and measurments fraud.

Well, they seem nice , but if you don't want to be bent over and taking in the rear, then I would suggest going somewhere else. About $1 per lbs less then the going rate for copper. May not seem that much ,but when you've got 3 to 4 hundred pounds to recycle, it's absolutely criminal, to say the least. Word of mouth shall be their downfall. Stay away
