Every experience I have had at this Ace location for over the last 1 1/2 years now was great, polite and helpful staff. I was pretty spoiled at my last local store, so I was reluctant to finally go, pleasantly surprised :)

Great local hardware shop with friendly and helpful staff. They have nearly anything you'd need from a hardware store so you can support these locally run shops instead of Home Depot or Lowe's. I recently bought some light chain to make a clothes line with in the garage and it worked like a charm (use hangers instead of clothes pins).

Love this store. And Ace. From the popcorn to EXCELLENT service. Wish I had my old tumbled down house to fix up! Still--will come to ACE for everything I need. (And lots I probably don't.)

Did propane exchanges effortlessly. I left the empty tank by the propane storage cabinet. Entered and paid the cashier and an associate came and helped me with the exchange Putting the tank in my suv. Great service.

Reliable and helpful staff is the key to this Ace location. Been there many times, and the staff is always helpful and very knowledgeable. They deliver and assemble a grill for you (and take the old one away!), which is such a great service that no one else provides anymore. They also make copies of keys, and have propane tanks.

Always friendly knowledgable staff ... let's keep these nice folks in business (formerly Wisnom's Hardware) OSH, Home Depot and other such big box stores are maddening with their non-caring sales/service staff I can always take an odd part, light bulb, fitting to this Ace Hardware and they will quickly ID the issue and provide a solution ... impossible to do of course with AMZN and Google Image query KEEP THESE NICE FOLKS IN BUSINESS !!!

This location is larger than it seems and includes a whole host of items for those DIY'ers. You can check online, but sometimes it's not always updated. I was looking for a gate lock, but it wasn't in stock as it showed online. They always send out 20% coupons in the mail, but be sure to read the fine print as there's a list of things that you can't use it on.

Love this place. May they thrive and stay alive bc they are the last bastion on earf beside Home Cheapo and Lowes. Everything around us is CLOSING. Please bless them. Keep them open and safe for this next century toos! What are we to rely on only corporate big box stores?! If it weren't for these smaller franchise stores like ACE we wouldn't have anywhere to go for hardware. OSH reopened but they're NOT back to the old days. They froze all building licenses in SF. No more cranes in the sky. People are doing home improvements waiting to sell, rent as income property, or just increase their property value. The NIMBYS have won. As it should be, because ignorant children vote now. They don't know MORE is not better. If you cannot afford the million vacant condos what USE is that to us here below the $100-75K tax bracket??? Something has got to give. I will be damned if I return to the Peninsula until my parents die, and I have to work on THEIR properites. Cheapskates... a good woman's work is never done!

Great old school hardware store, well staffed and they look after you if needed. Beats the big box guys for day to day needs. No hassle returns and a great section for any kind of nut, bolt or screw you would ever need.

Great store but would be helpful if they actually let their customers use the parking lot. Parking was covered by their giant trash cans.

Been there more than once because they carry the charcoal thar I like. This time it was rainy and they store the charcoal outside. I suggested that they tarp the charcoal so it doesn't get destroyed. Guy said they usually do. Seemed like bs and I have never seen it tarped before. Not sure why he would say that.

This is an old school hardware store that is chockful of wonderful items and wonderful advice. It's easy to find an employee to help you - and help you they do! I've shopped here for many years. Recently, I needed to return something because it turned out I'd purchased the wrong item for what I needed - the return was also easy! And cheerful! Also - SCISSOR AND KNIFE SHARPENING! They have it - via old fashioned drop off and the expert does it and you pick it up the next week or so - or use the machine. I'm so glad to be able to keep my tools - cooking knives, sewing shears - in good repair thanks to Hassett. They also have oilcloth - big rolls of it. That stuff lasts forever and is useful to cover tables inside or out. Of course, they have everything else you'd expect in a hardware store - tools, paint, lightbulbs, get your keys made, etc.! All around, I love coming here - it's a cheerful, helpful, useful place. Convenient location - right by downtown but not in downtown. They have a small parking lot and there is also free street parking. Aisles are wide enough to allow for use of a walker.

Always go here if you want helpful professionals willing to answer your questions. Hassett Ace is great. Avoid Home Depot at all costs - they act like it is an inconvenience to help customers who aren't professional construction workers. I love the way Hassett Ace employees have good attitudes towards customers doing small projects. They help with recommendations on what to purchase for my projects and are kind about it.

The staff was amazing and kind. I visited the store to make a copy of a car key and a house key. The car keys worked very well but the house key did not. I had to visit 3 times to get a working house key. Although the keys didn’t work they were very kind and replaced the key for free. Also very cheap!

I had a great experience with your staff. I'm older and need a lot of help and they came through for me. I'm very appreciative. Too bad the store in Belmont wasn't friendly or helpful. Thanks you San Mateo.

There was a time when the Hassett name stood for a family and not merely a business, a time when Hasset was concerned with the community and not just daily sales goals. My experience this week has taught me those days are over. Hasset Hardware had an inept and dangerous electrical contractor working on their main electrical panel right beside their primary store entrance where anyone could have trippped and fallen into it. I discreetly advised them that their electrical contractor was as dangerous as he was ignorant. Young children walked within 1.5 ft of an exposed and live 300 amp service(Enough electricity to turn the arm of an innocent child into protein based water vapor.) I made sure to explain the immanent danger to Hassett Hardware's manager(essentially a downed powerline was laying beside their door and they have done little more than put two cones out all the while beckoning customers with children to walk within 1.5 ft of an electrical hazard that could kill and permanently disable them) only to have him dismiss it away like a psychopath. Needless to say, this type of apathy towards the well-being of the community they are doing business in is and revolting. As a result I will not be back to Hassett Hardware any time soon and I will also be advising my family and friends to steer clear of Hassett Hardware as well.

Horrible place to shop, all the managers are kids, with no adult supervision, and they think they own the business, the property and that they are the only hardware store in town. Please, if your have to buy at a hardware store visit the Ace Hardware store in Burlingame. It is privately owned and not affiliated with any of the Hassett Ace Hardware stores. As it's independently owned they REALLY DO APPRECIATE THEIR CUSTOMERS, and even say THANK YOU after the sale. Hassett Hardware is a dump, with zero customer relations, from any of there employee's. Don't waste your time, or money, at any Hassett Ace Hardware, they are all unfriendly and run by a bunch of kids who have no idea what customer relations is about. There are several hardware stores that will take you money with a smile like Home Depot, Lowe's Hardware, San Mateo Hardware and Ace Hardware in Burlingame. Avoid Ace Hardware in San Mateo, and go where they appreciate you as a customer. Hasssett Ace Hardware in San Mateo is the most unfriendliness place in town.

This hardware store has kept my home operational for 20+ yrs I’ve owned it and likely since their doors opened in the 1940’s as Wisnoms’s the staff is friendly & Knowledgeable! You can fill just about any need here from tools to Birthday gifts... Really! Today I bought acetone, replacement blades, paint, caulk, Soft scrub, compactor bags, a birthday card, reading glasses too Cute! Bird seed, and a plant moisture meter! The team member happy to carry it to my car!!

While getting some plumbing supplies I came upon a display for reading glasses which included a free case. These glasses worked for me and the price was so good I made another trip to Hassett Ace Hardware just to buy another pair. The display had one price but when I went to pay for it the clerk said the price was doubled. The old bait and switch con. I asked for the manager to resolve the issue but it was a Sunday and no manger was there. Another problem at a different time was when I needed assistance on the floor but only one guy was helping the customers. All the other staff were off on the side talking to each other so I had to wait until the only staff working finished with other customers.

Excellent assortment of nuts bolts washers springs etc. Support local hardware stores rather than the big box stores!

Thank you Enrique and all San Mateo Ace employee for awesome customer service. I was stuck with 4 gallons of base Benjamin Moore paint purchased from orchard supply with no color ( I did not know when I bought it) . We visited Grays paint in Burlingame and the person there was completely rude. We came to Ace store in San Mateo and they are super friendly and helpful. They help us out and gave us a great impression of the store. Will be coming back! Thanks all!

Lots of things that you need, and more that you didn't realize you needed! Customer service is excellent!

Nice old fashioned hardware store that carries everything a person might need to run a smooth home. They always seem to have odd things in stock if you need to repair stuff: screws, nails and hooks and you can buy just a few, instead of a whole box. Kitchen ware, items for the car, bathroom necessities, garden supplies, and much, much more. I f they don't have it they will try to get it for you and other customers. Nice to go there and feel they care.

They took my old fluoresent bulbs for recycling and checked a price on very cute apron for me. Price was reasonable. Service was great.

Very friendly and helpful staff. very much enjoy going here even though their selection is not as large as other hardware stores. I still manage to find most of what I need.

This place is absolutely wonderful. I shop here frequently and would encourage others to do so, please keep the local hardware store alive! I have had nothing but stellar customer service every single time. It feels like such a rarity to go to a place where you're asked if you can be helped and the staff seems to know where things are or how to order them in the event that they don't have it. Are the prices above what you might pay at OSH or Home Depot, but only nominally and that is a-okay with me as this store has a dedication to serving it's customers that could rival or even beat places like Nordstrom. Every time you find yourself feeling lost at a big box store and that the employees seem to actively be avoiding you, please go and take a look at Hassett as I guarantee you that you'll be back when you need something. I also find the location great as I live in downtown San Mateo and it's a nice walk to the store, instead of having to use a car to get to any other hardware store.

The service here rivals any big box store. Prices can be competitive and the variety of products make this Ace a great place to shop at. Parking can be a challenge due to the location and small lot, but that said, I've never had too much difficulty finding a space.

I went there for a couple of items and ended up looking through their store for over an hour. The staff was super friendly (but not pushy) and knowledgable. Excellent store and great employees!

this is the best hardware store ever. period. it was bought out by ace, but it remains in control of the wisnom's family. it's my 'go to' place for anything. I can walk in with a tiny obscure screw, ask if they have it, and boom. most of the employees have been there for a long time, and are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. plus, they have cookies for dogs. I have no idea who the other reviewers are that say the help is terrible, etc. have never had anything but great service. look for john- he knows everything again- BEST. HARDWARE. STOER.EVER.
