What clients say about Sunset Recycling Center in La Quinta (CA)
I just moved to this area a few months ago and before I did I would go to Ponce recycling in Palm Springs and it seemed like I would seldom get the actual money I should have for what I brought. I am pleasantly surprised by being paid almost double by this recycling center, and it is awesome to drive away not feeling like I got ripped off. I read the reviews here and although most were very critical I am hoping that my experience is because they are enforcing a higher standard for running their business and is not just a random exception from usual.
I’m not sure what happened. I took far more bottles than I have taken to Apple Market. I got almost half. I’ll do a trial run going to both places on the same day to see what happens. I’ll come back and update.
Posted hours are 9 to 4 pm on Sundays.
Waited 20 minutes, no one arrived at the location.
Issues in the past have been an unmanned booth, or waiting for you to drop off and unpack your recycle items into their bids and then them telling you they don't have funds
available, and to come back. How is this allowed?
Came here once to recycle a large amount of plastic bottles and cans. Worker spoke only Spanish and was having a conversation on her phone the entire time she was weighing my recyclables. When it was all weighed, she gave me my ticket and said, "No money, come back tomorrow." I checked the ticket and it seemed to be quite a bit less than usual for such a large amount. I shrugged it off and came back the next day. Nobody was there. There was another guy there waiting and his story was the same as mine. We both left after waiting for a substantial amount of time during business hours. I came back again during business hours and no one was there. I resigned to the fact that I was losing more money trying to chase them down than cashing the ticket. Will never go back. Thieves.
Will be looking for a new recycling place. I go by frequently in the hours it says they are open and no one is there. I have brought cans and told I could have an IOU because they were out of cash. I tried to cash in an IOU today and was told it was more than 30 days so I couldn’t. That makes no sense, I still dropped the cans off previously, and no one told me there was a time limit to collect my cash. I work a full time job and waste so much time coming here only to have no one here, how am I supposed to cash in an IOU? Poor customer service with revolving employees. Every month or two there is someone new and the new employees always say the old ones were stealing which is probably why there is never enough cash for people who are dropping off cans. Terrible experience time after time.
Avoid. Website says closed for lunch at 12pm, I arrived at 11:45am and he had already left for lunch. Waited for him to return, when he arrived he told me he had no room for glass wine bottles. He called his Indio location, they had no room either.
I came here with $50 worth of cans on a Sunday. As I am halfway through unloading my car and sorting, I got told they did not have any money. They watched me rip open bag after bag before saying anything. If I had known, I would have just gone home and tried another day. Instead, they insisted they would have money by Monday. In good faith, I gave them my cans and got the receipt. I continuously came back to this site, several times, and every time they said they had no money. This went on for over two weeks. Finally they "got money" and paid me, but honestly I feel like the whole thing was a scam to try and get people to give cans and not pay. How can they take my cans and 2 weeks pass but they haven't deposed of them and gotten compensated? It makes no sense. I will never be coming here again.
Went today with over 12 pounds of aluminum cans at $1.68 per pounds i should have gotten at least $20.68. She gave me a 5 dollar bill, I got out of my truck to tell her I was short money and she said I was suppose to get 4 dollars and change but she rounded up to 5 dollars. I asked for a recipe and she wouldn't give me one. By this time she mixed my cans with others, so no way to get them back. I've been a butcher for 20 years, I know the difference between 3 pounds and 12 pounds. I would never ever go back, beware she'll take your money!!!!
This Lady is very dishonest! I have never experienced this ever before at a recycling location! People take their time to go there to participate in recycling for the better future of our planet at the same time I don't want to feel cheated. First time I went here, I brought 3 cases of glass bottles. She gave me back $3. refund. Just yesterday I brought 7 cases of glass water bottles and a big bag of plastic bottles and she tried to give me $3. I asked her for her calculations and she said she was refunding me .10c for each bottle. When I confronted her that at .10c each bottle she still owed me $4.00 plus the refund for the plastic bottles, she says "well i can weight them and it'll be less". To that I informed her weather she weighed or .10c per bottle she still owed me money and i will be reporting her for trying to cheat people out of their money. She continued to give me $3. Total of $6.
Caucasian worker was very rude and condescending. When I asked her if the different bottles have designated bins and if so, which goes where, she replied with “yeah”. I then reply with “yeah what?” Shes like “obviously the bottles go in different bins.” Like bro what, maybe it might have been a silly question, but she didn’t have to be so rude 😅And when I asked to take a picture of the receipt, she held it out, and when I reach to grab it, she held onto it. She was like “ok you said you wanted to take a picture of it, not take it”. She wouldn’t let me hold it to briefly take a picture, I wasn’t going to steal it, the total was only $9 lol. I don’t know what was with her attitude, but it was only towards me because she was warmly welcoming the elderly people who were also bringing in their recyclables.
Never open supposed to be open from 9-5 but go there at 4 it’s closed , go at noon - closed , go at 4:40 closed . No matter what you give to them they always want to give you $2 . Make them count the items - your legal right and it’s a huge inconvenience for them to actually do their job . In this great green experiment of a state that requires you to pay to recycle you would think they would make it easy and put these inside grocery stores like other states - Michigan for example but no let’s make it as difficult as possible for you to recycle and get your money back by limiting the places you can recycle to corrupt, incompetent, never open businesses .
Been going here since it opened. Easier to get your CRV back than anywhere else. Have always had good experiences with the staff. Rules about recycling have always been set by the state and are less than fair to consumers. The staff here follows the rules and tries to make the experience the best they can. They do close if they are full or if they are out of cash. But all small recycling spots have the same limitations. These people are way better than RePlanet was. The frustrations of recycling are systematic no place can fix that. At least here they try to make it work for you.
Terrible experience. If you care about actually recycling DO NOT go here! If you just care about the money DO NOT go here!
The guy is very dishonest. I’ll never go here again. He won’t take all recycling plastic products even though it clearly says recycling on the plastic bottle. He’s very rude.
The gentlemen that helped us the other day was very friendly even at the end of the day. We were in and out in no time. The area was clean and there were plenty of baskets. We did have a little bit of a hard time finding it. Especially not knowing the area but that was more of a user error.
Received a hand written receipt for $43.00 from a Dominique Carella. Told me to come back in the morning when they open at 9am. Leaving it 4 star because service was still great. Also a reminder to those complaining about the people working the center not having money. Please don't talk down to them. It's thier bosses issue on not supply their workers in this 110 degree day with no fan. The owner need to take better care of his employees. Will see tomorrow if my hand written receipt is legit. I went the very next day and I was able to collect my money with no problem.
This place is never open. Many people have came and gone in the last hour. There is no excuse for this. Your not open. So quit with false advertisement and say your closed. This way people can find a real place that is open and not waste half the day waiting.
