BEWARE THE O'Reilly's Brake Pad Scam: so i bought brake pads with "lifetime warranty" in 2023 and they wore out prematurely (in my opinion), but even if not premature my understanding of the O'Reilly's brake pad warranty is that: "O'Reilly's policy, and that of many other major chains, generally DOES cover normal wear and tear on their premium "lifetime warranty" brake pads . The idea is that you buy one set, and as long as you own the vehicle, you get free replacements for pads that simply wear out.". So i brought in the pads and the white guy ran up to the counter to help me. I pushed the box of used brake pads toward him and said "I'm returning these for a refund". The white clerk opened the box and quickly "inspected" the brake pads. He didn't even look up my account before quickly saying "I can't refund these. They've been used". DUH ?! REALLY ? like he thought he was sherlock holmes and had detected a major lie. It was SO RIDICULOUS - he was treating me like I had found some old brake pads on the sidewalk and thought I could walk in and get $50 bucks for them. The reality is I purchased new brake pads at a different O'Reilly's near where I was earlier in the day (Westminster) and had them replaced at my shop near there. Then I had a meeting in Newport Beach, so afterwards I stopped in at the closest O'Reilly's to hopefully get treated with the respect I deserve. I told him "I know they've been used. I am returning them for a warranty refund. The Vietnamese fellow at the other O'Reilly's said I could return them "as long as they're not metal on metal" . But this white guy said "No. I can't do that." And said that "normal wear and tear" is NOT covered by lifetime warranty, which leads me back to the above quote . I have been a faithful customer at O'Reilly's over the years because (usually) they are honorable about their warranties without playing Sherlock Holmes. But, sadly, this was quite a different experience. Shame on this clerk for mistreating me. If he had a legitimate denial of my warranty claim it seems in contradiction to what I've been told and read. If anybody feels scammed, it's me, by him. "While the exact legal wording might differ slightly, the intent and common practice for both O'Reilly's and AutoZone's "lifetime warranty" brake pads is to replace them when they are worn out from normal use...While both companies intend to cover normal wear on "lifetime" brake pads, the individual employee's understanding, training, and interpretation of "defect" versus "excessive wear due to other issues" can lead to wildly different outcomes...So, the real difference isn't so much in the underlying policy (which for premium pads often DOES cover normal wear), but in the consistency of training and application by individual store employees." " The initial reaction you received ("They've been used!") was indeed ridiculous in the context of a warranty return, as the whole point of returning a worn item under warranty is precisely that it has been used and worn out"

Quick little back story. I called these guys 2 months ago about my battery on my Volkswagen 2020 going out. They told me the price for the battery which if I recall correctly was around $215, but they said I would need a technician to install It, so they referred me next door to franks auto shop to install It. They said they could do It. I called franks auto shop and franks auto shop was charging me $70. So total I was going to pay close to $300 maybe more after tax and everything. I went to Walmart because I saw a YouTube video where a guy did It himself and said the best cost efficient place was Walmart to purchase the battery he said It’s work good for him. I needed to be cost efficient so I went that route, but this whole time I did not need a technician. You just have to turn the steering wheel all the way left and all the way right and It resets. I needed a technician for that? I would just say don’t trust this place and don’t trust franks auto body. Seems like they have a deal with each other to screw people over and make more money. I ended up paying $115 when all said and done with Walmart and saved upwards of $175. Don’t trust this O’Reillys do your research on your own before they tell you anything.

The staff here is fantastic, that being said, I cannot do business with a place that will not allow a paying customer to use the restroom. Until that policy changes, I’ll take my business elsewhere. Thank you.

Terrible Customer Service. Manager (Tony) gave me the wrong oil filter, when I called in to let them know and ask for thr proper one to be delivered (I have a business account), they refused. Now I have the car up in the air, crank case is drained and I have no filter.

The only place I buy my auto parts is O’Reilly Auto Parts in Costa Mesa. The staff is always knowledgeable, helpful and friendly and prices are very reasonable compared to other auto parts chains. Most recently, they went above and beyond by allowing me to exchange an item that wasn’t working even though the warranty had expired four months earlier which they didn’t have to do. I rarely write reviews but their kindness prompted me to write this review and give them a five star rating.

(See edit below initial comment) Had a dead battery and needed it charged so I could at least move my vehicle but an older bald heavy set guy refused to charge it saying it was a bad battery and it wouldn't hold any charge whatsoever and just plain refusing to charge it (even though I told him that tow truck driver advized me to do that so I could at least move it). So I was forced to take the battery off and hoof it to the nearby Auto Zone to charge it... they charged it, said it was a good battery and when I connected it the car turned on and ran (unlike what the O'Reilly rep told me). I wouldn't mind if someone is not sure, doesn't know or have an answer but to be so boastful and persistent AND to be wrong is quite unhelpful. Shout out to Auto Zone for charging my battery without hesitance or denying. No hate but definitely not prime customer service or knowledge AND that is the worst to confront when trying to seek help to fix an auto issue. *Edit due to fantastic 2nd visit... I'm so sorry I forgot the name of the tall young white man with a beard and jolly belly that was VERY helpful and positive and friendly towards my automotive situation... bought the tools I needed to get my car fixed and even a young hispanic male with a goatee was also very helpful and lent me in good faith his own jack which was very pivotal in getting my alternator put in and me back on the road... that along with lots of helpful information to get my repair done Luke was also helpful and positive and friendly... Great group of guys work here... will come back here to this location for all my future automotive needs. A+

Brought my car over because it was sputtering when I started it and the engine light came on. They performed an engine scan but could tell right away that a rodent chewed through several wires. Referred me to an electrician in Santa Ana (I’ll be leaving a positive review there as well!) and provided a copper wire & instructions on how to splice the missing wire. They also separated wires causing the sputtering so my car was drivable again - all free of charge. Thank you for the incredible service!

This must be the tough guy O'Reilly store, as soon as I park the clerk is outside yelling your going to get towed. I said I'm going to be inside in just a minute and another guy yells with him saying they love towing cars here, the clerk says yeah we're good friends with the towing company, I go inside and asked why is my car going to get towed he said not yet, I was astonished and asked should I take my business elsewhere he said I don't care. I walked out and thought that was amazing poor service and threats to tow my car. Coming here was a mistake. Old men poor service.

I have come to this store for various needs and every time I’ve come in I’ve had excellent customer service! A special shout out to Juan who deserves 10 stars. He is friendly, personable, professional and knowledgeable. He helped me with a few different things over this past week and I got what I needed and was on my way in no time. There is no better feeling when you walk into a store knowing you will be taken care of with kindness.

I have been a loyal customer at the Costa Mesa Store on Superior Avenue. I could just order online but I prefer going into the store. The Customer Service there is above and beyond expectations. For over 9 years they have been my go to store for my Boats, Motorcycles and Cars. I had a bad M/C battery that was over the warranty by 30 days and the Manager swapped it out for free. I signed up for a rewards card and Enjoy Purchasing there even since. Everyone there knows my name. I Highly Recommend and Appreciate Great Service. Gary “G”

I was happy this location had the Optima battery in stock, their staff was very nice and actually took the new battery out to my car for me, which was very helpful as I have both bones in my right calf broken. Glad that there was a parking space right up front in front of the door as to limit my walking on a broken leg. Thank you!!!

I have been a customer of this store for many years. The customer service here used to be much better than what it is today. Now it just seems that everybody behind the counter is moody or has an attitude. No one is happy to be there like they are being dragged into work or something. Yes, I realize it's an auto parts store but I don't get this kind of treatment from other O'reilly Auto Parts stores. At other stores and even with other auto part chains I'm treated with some respect and dignity.

Wide open easy-to-navigate parking... but not the easiest to find off of the main road. No public restroom, but establishment is well-cleaned and well-stocked. Fast, easy customer service by friendly staff. A+
