Went for our honeymoon. Best decision. Ocean view from a cliff. There is a small easy trail behind the lodge that take you to the top of the cliff and you have three sides ocean and one side another cliff. Absolutely stunningly beautiful.

We stayed in room 7. Room was cozy and of course the view is amazing. The view is stunning. But it does get cloudy so catching the view after the clouds go away is when you really see how amazing that view is. We do hope Lucia Lodge reopens their restaurant, would be easier to have better eating options on site. Just an FYI, there is no staff on site and no cell service, just WiFi. Essentially you are paying for the amazing view. The room was VERY CLEAN and cozy. We were impressed with how clean the room was. Simple room, nothing fancy. No fridge in the room. The nearest restaurant/ cafe is about a 20 min drive away. Will also recommend checking for road closures on HWY 1 prior to driving to the lodge. Sometimes Google maps doesn’t provide accurate directions so use another map.

My husband booked the honeymoon suite for my birthday. Beautiful location, clean room and the staff was very helpful. We were able to charge our car, make sure to get NEMA 14/50 cable with you. No cell network and limited food options nearby, closest store is 9 miles away with part of highway 1 closure. Get your food and drinks though continental breakfast is provided in the morning.

What a place to escape for a day or two!!!! Absolutely enjoyed the peace and nature and unbeatable views. Hearing ocean wave sounds while in your room and looking at the see through the window is one of the best experiences. Would suggest taking some food and snacks as there is nothing close by!

This is at the end of the road, if coming from San Simeon or coming from the south. We thought we could eat here, but the restaurant is closed down. The hotel is open for business, but not the restaurant.

My wife and I have lived on the Central Coast for several years and have visited Lucia Lodge a few times during our time here. It is not glamorous or trendy or full of nightlife, but it is a hidden gem along the most spectacular part of the Pacific Coast Highway between San Simeon and Big Sur.|Built in the 1930's, Lucia Lodge is part of a mid 1800's land grant that includes 10 well appointed cabins including en suite bathrooms, comfortable queen beds, gas fireplace and one of the most stunning views of the rugged California coastline found anywhere.|Staying here doesn't require a wave machine to lull you to sleep because the Pacific Ocean is 500 feet below you and waves of 10-15 feet in height crash against the shoreline creating one of the best nights' sleep EVER.|They even have modern conveniences like WiFi, and in room coffee in the morning. If you ask me, I'm surprised that they aren't booked a year in advance, so this is a great time to visit.

My wife and I started here on our 10 year wedding anniversary. We stayed in cottage 10. If you can, I would strongly recommend cottages 7-10 because of the stellar view. It was the perfect way to disconnect from the world and connect with each other. The Lodge is perfectly remote. We brought food and our camping stove and had a nice "Glamping" experience. I loved the hard-boiled eggs in their continental breakfast. The tap water quality seemed very good. Limekiln State Park is very nearby with towering redwoods, a beautiful creek and great views. The beach there was also beautiful. Bring cash to the area because a lot of the day use parks like Limekiln required cash for entrance. My wife and I can't wait to return as soon as we can convince the grandparents to take care of the kids again...haha.

Firstly, this location is beautiful. Know that for the relatively large cost per night, you are centrally paying for location and view. Overall, I'd say this is perfect for couples who want a getaway who are comfortable being fairly remote and self-sufficient. As for some specifics, we were in room 6, and the room was pretty bare bones, but very nice and clean. There was a coffee machine, 2 wine glasses + bottle opener, and a small ice bucket. No refrigerator or microwave. Additionally, it's helpful to know the layout of the place. There are 10 rooms in close proximity, with rooms 1/2, 3/4, and 5/6 being the first 3 buildings. And 7 - 10 each being standalone. We got unlucky and had a family with 2 young toddlers next door, and because the walls are very thin, we heard those kids cry and stomp around all evening and all morning. We were surprised anyone would bring 2 small children here for one night, but luck of the draw when you stay at a hotel/motel. If you want more privacy, I'd recommend units 7 through 10, as they share no walls. Other notes: - the breakfast was muffins, clementines, hardboiled eggs, and juice accessible in a cabinet outside - there was a communal ice chest - there is a lovely bench and table just below the rooms along the coast - almost no interaction with staff, and they seemed inactive on weekdays, but they did seem very nice and accommodating from our brief messaging Finally, as of Jan 2025, this is 2 miles south of the road closure, and there are a handful of food options 30 to 60 minutes south. Similarly, there are a few hiking options nearby, though some are still under fire closure. We stayed 2 nights, brought a day's worth of meals (and wine), did one half day hike, and otherwise had a very relaxed weekend, and that worked perfectly for us.

Outstanding location, beautiful drive from Monterey if you go through Jolon, you drive through the national forests. Stop in Gorda for a meal and pick up wine/snacks and then settle into the environment. Cozy Cabin like rooms, with the waves racing to the shore below the cliffs. |Ambiance ;)

This place is out of this world! The views are spectacular and the rooms, whilst they look basic, they are laid out in a way that is practical and comfortable. We had a fireplace and an ocean view from each of the windows, which was amazing. The bed was extremely comfortable, with great quality crisp bedding and pillows. Check in was easy to do and instructions on how to do this were received a few days before. There is nothing at all nearby and no TVs in the room which we loved, because who needs anything else when you’re staying in a place like this with the views that it offers. But, definitely bring food and drinks with you when you arrive as there really is no store nearby. Breakfast was a little disappointing, it was just an orange and a blueberry muffin with a choice of apple or cranberry juice, and the cleanliness of the bathroom could’ve been better, but overall it is an amazing place that I would not hesitate to return to again and if you’re considering staying here, you should, just for the experience.

This place is amazing! The view is incredible. The room was cozy, clean and modern. I would definitely recommend staying here. The drive up is wonderful with many places to stop and enjoy. The restaurant is closed in the little town, but you can buy snacks. The prices were a bit high though.

Our stay at Lucia Lodge in Big Sur was absolutely incredible. If you're looking for a peaceful escape with stunning ocean views, this is the place to be. The location is perfect — perched right above the cliffs, offering panoramic views of the Pacific that are simply unforgettable. The rooms were cozy, spotlessly clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Waking up to the sound of the ocean and stepping outside to that gorgeous view was a highlight every morning. I also appreciated the continental breakfast provided each morning, which was simple but fresh and a great start to the day. Overall, Lucia Lodge is a fantastic choice if you're looking for a quiet, scenic retreat in Big Sur. I'll definitely be returning!

The road is not closed coming from the south. You will have the most amazing views from this hotel. It was amazing. We were the only party there because I think people think it is not accessible. So cute! And the hosts dropped of breakfast for us with fruit, muffins, and hard-boiled eggs.

Heaven on Earth. The only problem is other people being allowed there at the same time. I want it all to myself. We will be definitely be back. I would never leave if possible. The room was very clean and comfortable. The towel was a mile thick. The housekeeper was super sweet and helpful and the owner's were very generous. I am grateful to them for allowing us to stay there. I would make one tiny suggestion. I would put up a few signs reminding people to be respectful of their voices and not be loud. When you are in Big Sur, sleeping with the windows open is an absolute luxury and if an idiot happens to be staying there at the same time the luxury becomes a nightmare. I understand that people will be people, but to me it's like talking in a movie theater. People should know their surroundings and not assume that just because everyone is quiet doesn't mean they need to fill the silence. Especially at night when most are sleeping. If you are interested in staying here don't let this small note stop you. It was still top 5 greatest stays ever for me and No. 1 greatest stay with a view. Thank you,

5/5 stars, 10/10 experience. Big Sur is a magical place, and Lucia Lodge is part of that magic. It is rustic, charming, comfortable and peaceful. The view is immaculate, and the best you can get from a stay in the area. Visiting Big Sur is all about unplugging and settling into nature's routine, and this spot is perfect for that. It felt like a dream. James and staff are all very kind and helpful. The only thing I disliked was having to leave! We will be back.

Great place to stay if you are passing through Big Sur, especially on a bicycle. The Staff are lovely and super helpful. The location means you're fairly far from any other services (restaurant, groceries, pharmacy etc) but it also means you get a lot of privacy and incredible views. excellent no frills place to stay to appreciate the beauty of nature and unplug for a while.

The motel is located at the end of hwy 1 just before the closure and the area is absolutely deserted. Nobody is the office, they leave the key in a box with instructions and you are stuck far from everything with no cellular service. The ”breakfast” is a joke and there is no coffee or fridge. The motel is really worn down and imho absolutely not worth the price ($250), except for one thing: the view. You can see a beautiful sunset over the ocean (if the weather gods) will and then go to sleep, provided that you already had your dinner somewere else before you arrival. If you thinkthat this is worth the price, stay here, otherwise spend your money somewhere else.

This was a much needed staycation where even though both my husband and I are from the East Bay Area, neither of us had ever heard of Lucia or been to Big Sur. Let me say that it was right up my alley. Although like the other reviews have stated, it's definitely from those that like a view and not looking for beach access. The view, the sound of the ocean and the night sky with a meteor shower in mind, was a perfect literally and metaphorically breathe of fresh air. It's quiet, can I day this again, it was deliciously quiet besides the sound of the waves. There were a family of deers and rabbits who almost on que greeted us when we arrived amd settled in. I ate my breakfast and drank my complimentary coffee with the family of rabbits at the bottom overlook the next morning. The rooms are basic which we loved and very clean. No cobwebs on the high vaulted ceilings or dust on anything! The shower is tiiiiiiny and the spout was so high, it's not for a short person at all! Again the bathroom was clean and we could over look the size especially since that isn't why we were there. At this time and as stated on their website, there is a taco truck within walking distance and a continental breakfast served every morning out of a locked container that was filled with cuties, bananas, hard boiled eggs, and muffins, cranberry and orange juice. We heard that they are starting to rebuild their restaurant that was lost in the fire. I would have rated the Lucia Inn higher if we had been able to .5 points and if the shower/ bathroom had been a bit larger. The was no "service" besides obvious housekeeping. Pricey for the view but worth it for a get away from the grind and concrete of the city.

We stayed in cabin #9, and it was beautiful! The interior was extremely clean, spacious, and comfortable, with a couch, gas fireplace, coffee table, armchair, small desk, space heater. It was raining during our stay, so the indoor space was definitely appreciated. Note that there is no kitchen due to the fire, so breakfast is limited but available! Also wifi is not strong enough for wfh or streaming so be prepared with books, board games, cards :) We were allowed to check in early, which was very nice. Also enjoyed the little trail going up to the viewpoint!

The best location you will probably ever stay, in case you take the time to arrive before sunset and leave well after sunrise. You’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views, while being accompanied by hummingbirds. Tip: do bring your own food just in case, supplies were a bit limited (fair enough given the remote location)

We went in November for 2 nights after 2 prior visits had to be cancelled to road closure and the fires. ||||We stayed in room 7. Loved it. Just to sit and listen to waves, the views kept us in awe. However, I will say, the rooms behind us, or at least maybe the last one connected to room 7, was loud. You could hear the people talking. They came in super late.||||We walked to the end and up the hill for another overlook. We took a glass of wine up there and just sat with the sunset. ||||Met some great guys from San Fran and ended up outside for 4 hours chatting with them in the adirondack chairs, listening to the waves and watched shooting stars.||||You go here to relax, not watch TV and play on your phone. Breakfast was placed in bags in a cooler. Simple breakfast, no complaints. Muffins, hard boiled egg, juice. Maybe a protein bar? ||||If there are issues with the roads/fires, do not blame them. You also need to communicate ahead of time if arriving late. It is in an area with nothing around. We were saddened when the restaurant burned down. Just plan ahead.

Super over priced, you're paying for view only. Nothing great about the room. We got this room for our anniversary, hence, decided to pay a lot($450 per night) for a normal weekend ( not long weekend). Room had bed, coffee maker, heater, very usual bathroom. Bed was nice and clean, we found couple spiders on it though. Room was clean, but they could have done much more for this price. For instance, the chairs outside of the room could have just a cushion, Wich is 20-30$. I'd buy that when I charge people $400+ per night if I was the owner. Or quality of toilet paper could have been much better. I'm sharing this to let you know how cheap inside the room is compare to$500 a night( summer 2022). However, if you like the ocean sounds and view, it has great view. We were not lucky on that since it was foggy both days. So in summary, if you like to pay 400-500 per night JUST for the view, it's right place for you. If not, you're wasting your money.

Beautiful, but very expensive, lodging with a fantastic view. No microwave or fridge. We stayed in room 7, which was one of the rooms with a scenic view. To be honest though just book whatever room. They provide you with some outdoor seating and there's benches you can sit at to take in the view. Don't pay the extra money unless seeing the view from your window is really that important to you.

Wonderful views, comfortable bed, lovely sound of the ocean. Stay includes continental breakfast at the restaurant starting at 9am. Super friendly staff. Only draw back was the strange many legged bug on the wall. That's nature for you, but my daughter was a bit terrified. We stayed in cabin 9. If you stay in cabins with a partial view (cabins 1-6) you will still be close enough to hear the waves crash at the shore, but the view is blocked by the small parking lot. Parking lot holds about 8 cars, so not that many

A lovely stop. Even though the restaurant and all the shops but one was closed at the time of my visit, there were still nice views and the kids liked watching the birds and dragonflies. There was a swallows nest up in the rafters in front of the lower level bathrooms and it was nice watching them swoop around

Great location for a relaxing break during your pacific coast drive. Stopped for lunch here, outdoor patio tables with ocean view is amazing. Tried fish and chicken sandwich, food is ok but location is amazing. If not for food, definitely stop for a coffee or snack and enjoy the views.

It is one of the MOST beautiful places on Highway 101! Best views, clean rooms. For those who love nature more than luxury suits - perfect place to run away from the city. Very serene and very cinematic. This place inspires! P.S. Breakfast is included and is really nice: pastry, eggs, toasts, milk, cereals, yogurt and fruit - just what you need.

This place is a true gem. It’s family-run hotel and restaurant, with very reasonable prices given the area. The room was sparkling clean and very cozy. The breakfast was a little basic, but it was served in the restaurant with a truly amazing view of the coast and the ocean. The dinner was delicious, home cooked food. I’d definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone traveling to the Big Sur area.

Best Fish and Chips ever. They sold beer by the six-pack and it was not all that expensive. I appreciated the kindness of the woman that served us, and the view from the outside patio is virtually unbeatable. It's times like this that genuinely make me appreciate there are places in California where there are tourists, and locals alike, and a no-name face like me can still walk away feeling like my money was well spent. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

We stopped here for lunch during our drive down highway 1. We came for the famous fish and chips. At $28 dollars, the portion size was very large. They tasted great and the views from the restaurant are incredible. The staff was very friendly but stretched a bit thin.
