Point Reyes Shipwreck is a great quick stop if you’re looking for unique photo opportunities. The weathered remains of the ship make for some really cool, rustic shots, especially with the surrounding landscape. It’s not a long visit, but it’s definitely worth it for a few fun photos. Just be prepared—the ground can get a bit muddy, so wear appropriate shoes. Overall, a neat little spot for a brief, memorable stop!
It’s not a shipwreck. It’s been there less than 30 years. It’s just a boat that got stuck in the sand.
You are trespassing across private property to go out to it and mostly people who choose to do this just take up almost all the parking which either OBVIOUSLY belongs to the store it’s attached to (but few ever bother to buy anything and only enter to ask for a bathroom)
OR visitors park in front of what are OBVIOUSLY businesses as they say NO PARKING. Even the handicapped spots get taken up by people who CLEARLY aren’t in need.
It’s important to remember when planning your trip that people actually live out here, we go to work, we get our kids to school and while I’m so happy you have a life where you can do day trips mid-week, we’re not all that blessed. So please try to show some respect for what makes it beautiful which is the abundance of nature ( not humans ) and when you want to slam on your brakes or ride your bike down the middle of the road, park across crosswalks, on blind curves or in peoples driveways or livestream your journey-please try to imagine how you’d feel if someone was behaving like that in front of you while you’re trying to go about your daily life.
I meaaaaaan....yeah it's technically a shipwreck and you can maneuver to get some pretty sweet photos, especially post editing. I will say though that I would not drive here just for this. If you're coming to Cypress Tree Tunnel, Pt Reyes hikes, the lighthouse, and other surrounding attractions; sure it's worth a quick stop.
Be kind and visit some local shops and grab a snack and a drink at the convenience store because their parking lot is the best parking for this. Also they have giant cookies there!
I feel like it's not quite a tourist trap, but not quite a tourist attraction either. I will say my out of town guest enjoyed it much more than I did and tried to hop onto the lil islet to get up close for photos. There was a lil more water and mud than he bargained for, so that didn't happen, but I did get a fun shot for him.
Super cute town tho! Would definitely go back to eat at the spot across the street (only open for lunch on weekends) and see a few other things in the area again.
The Point Reyes shipwreck offers a serene and picturesque escape, despite the vessel's significant decay. While the ship is more of a falling-apart husk than a well-preserved wreck, its peaceful setting of calm waters and rolling hills makes for a beautiful backdrop. It's an ideal spot for photography or quiet reflection.
Well worth a visit as it's barely a detour on your way to the seashore. The ship is interesting to look at, and is deteriorating quite rapidly.
Check the tides so you can get close. It's a short 2 minute walk from the parking area behind the general store. There are also picnic benches close by.
An easy to access fun place to stop. We were there at low tide but it looks like the water comes all the way up to the boat at high tide. The boat is getting pretty decayed I wonder how many more years it will last ?
Well their version of a ship wreck is a little odd.... its more like a boat wreck and its really, really busted up, unlike the picture! And there's only 1 busted up boat, not plural as in ship wreck(s). Neat drive getting there and back and that's the best part of the trip!
Went there in 2019 and just now posting these images that I took and edited. This is a beautiful spot for all photographers. It reminds me of Scotland with the hills in the background. Please reach out to me for use of this image.
It's right off the road. There was a group of painters with the easels set up painting the bay. It's a short easy stroll to the shipwreck. We came back later and grabbed a sandwich from the general grocery just in front of the wreck and sat out on a picnic table overlooking the wreck and bay for a nice lunch.
I wish I could give this a 5 star review - 5 years ago I would have! Sadly people have continued to vandalize this wreck and it's not as cool as it once was. Still worth stopping if you're driving by, but it's sad people feel the need to damage it and take parts of it ruining it for the rest of us.
Point Reyes Shipwreck was a destination I did not want to miss on this trip. The winter storms have taken a toll on this iconic shipwreck. It will not be too many more years or one really bad storm for the wreck to be a memory only preserved by pictures
Park behind the Inverness Market; short trail off the back of the parking lot out to the shipwreck. Pretty cool to see, but nothing super special. Great views of the bay though!
This is a scenic stop on the way out to Tomales Park. Wreck is interesting and all around are such beautiful water views. Great for some scenic photos and just taking in the tranquil beauty there. Easy parking two minute walk from wreck in unpaved lot.
Pretty interesting shipwreck right on the shore, but nothing else to do here. Decent place for some photos and there is a public bathroom (Port-a-potty) but it was pretty gross all in all. Worth a stop but not as a destination alone.
A cool little spot to stop by on the way to point Reyes light house. Be sure to park to the right of the Inverness convenience store. That is the best way to walk to the shipwreck.
An absolutely STUNNING spot! Pretty much you are just here for the one shipwreck, so it is a quick stop, but I highly recommend it. It was a bit hard to find parking, as it kind of an "unofficial" spot with no advertising. The sign in my review is found after you park and start walking towards it. Be respectful of all of the private property.
Cute little stop before you get to Point Reyes Lighthouse and Cypress Tree Tunnel. If it is raining it can be a little muddy. It wasn't that hard to walk though but it was all over our shoes. There is a market, restaurant, and a bathroom in the cute little town.
I loved this place. There stands a lonely shipwreck which is stuck in the sand. It once floated but now it's sunk. I stood in front of the body. It was the ship's body. It made me think of death.
I couldn't go close to the ship because the water was too wide for me to jump over. If you come to this shipwreck opposite to the side where I took pictures, you could probably touch it.
Beautiful place to stop by on the way to Point Reyes national seashore.
Not sure whether it should be named shipwreck. More like a boat wreck. But a good point to visit on your way to point Reyes. Small town. Easy parking. Took a few pictures, spent about 10 min there.
One of the most popular photography spot in the Point Reyes area! Watch my video. This is well worth the drive and well worth the time it takes to get the pictures. This boat will not be her much longer. Vandals or the natural elements will soon destroy it. If you go. the parking lot is a little small and it is a bit of a rough walk.
Easy to park, and easy to walk to. Has little areas around the wreck that you can walk and explore.
There are a few benches and seating areas of you wanted to bring food, sit and watch the water sports from people heading out there and enjoying the waves and wind.
Also has a little local market store so you can stop and grab some food before or after.
Honestly it’s okay but if you are heading to Point Reyes it’s a quick stop to take a break from driving. The ship itself is really cool. Makes for some good pictures. But it’s hard to located and there is no clear history on it. The ship itself is deteriorating and not safe to climb in or anything.
Such a neat little area behind a deli liquor store. I went on a Saturday afternoon there wasn't too many people around. The few that come don't stay long they just model for a bit and leave. I want to return when there's less people. My dog liked it so five stars.

It is a short walk around the bay,
with a beautiful views of the ocean and the mountain in the background.
It has picnic tables.
It is good place for family and a perfect place photographers too.

Nice place to chill. There are a few tables you can stop for your picnic. It is a cool place to take pictures. Parking is easy, if you do not use the GPS this spot can be missed. I randomly stopped there because I wanted to eat lunch. I would have missed the shipwrecks it on my way to the lighthouse. If I go back in the area I will go back.
It's not easy to find. You can drive right past the place in Inverness CA without noticing it's there behind the little store's parking lot.
Finally going round the back of the store, you find this amazingly photogenic boat wreck, but you can't really find out anything about it. It looks like a derelict tug called the Point Reyes.
I'm not sure why it's called shipwrecks (plural) as we only saw the one.
If you're not a photographer or ship historian, there's little to do there, but if you are, take your camera and notebook, you won't regret it.
This is a great little photo op. Park the car, stretch your legs and grab a snack at Saltwater across the street or the market. Then, walk towards the water and you'll see the Pt. Reyes. I'm actually surprised it's still there...but it's a fun photo stop nonetheless.
