I purchased a vehicle from CarMax Inglewood along with a MaxCare extended service plan. When the vehicle developed mechanical issues—including a brake vacuum failure and a recurring EVAP system fault—I submitted a repair claim under my still-active 5-year/75,000-mile contract. Despite providing maintenance records (including Valvoline oil changes) and documentation of a prior covered repair, my claim was denied due to “engine sludge.” CarMax acknowledged the situation, but no real solution was offered and no one followed up. As a business owner and U.S. military veteran, I expected better from a company that markets itself on reliability and customer protection. Unfortunately, I was left with no support when it mattered most.

I had recently purchase a mercedes benz 450 GLS from Carmax. The car had a small chip in the window and battery indicator light was popping up on the screen when driving the car. Carmax service department replaced the battery since it failed their test and treated the window chip so, the chip would not spread and said if the chip spread to a crack they would replace the window. Carmax also filled up the gas tank to full which was only 1/2 filled when I brought the car in for service . The service staff was exceptional friendly and also order me a lyft ride home and I got a ride back when the car was finished, I was very very happy with the overall service and was glad we choose Carmax to purchase our car from. This is the second car we had purchased from Carmax and we would definitely refer them to our family and friends.

I had the best experience at Carmax LAX! Mayra Ik was very very helpful throughout the process of getting my car. In the beginning, it was a bit problematic due to the DMV, but Mayra was there every step of the way and continued to check in with me until my purchase date. I greatly appreciate Mayra and the Carmax staff for their grace and continuous support throughout this process!

My ford escape SUCKS. its been less than a year and ive spent more than a thousand dollars already on repairs. Im so upset i got a car that looked great but really i want to give it away already. I had to change the break pads, buy a new alternator. The handle of the trunk is broken. My drivers seat can not adjust so now im forced to drive with my seat leaned back. Etc etc and etc smh!!!!

Unexpectedly efficient and comfortable. I had put in information about the car I was to sell ahead of time online, which helped, And then friendly people put everything through and I got a check for my vehicle all within a half hour. Impressed!

The only part of this experience that I enjoyed was the pre-approval even though that was drug out as well, the customer service in person and the service department team. Chris you are great!!! To the point: Got the car at 61,000 miles. I had my car for one day and the check engine light came on, as well as other dashboard lights. I have had to take my car in a total of three times in less than 2 weeks. I would think I would be okay since I THANKFULLY got the maxcare. I am not happy outside of not having to pay a dime. Each visit was for the same issues after getting it “serviced”. I said screw it. Let me take this to Nissan. I called carmax inglewood business office to get my warranty policy number. I was told by Elizabeth I believe it was that it will take some time( what is that in an increment of time???) to locate my information. I was placed on hold for an hour and when she came back she didn’t even remember why I was put on hold and then put me back on hold to do what we discussed already before the hour wait. All I can say is that I am so glad I got maxcare because if I didn’t I would be in a financial hole already and it’s within 30 days of purchase. I have pictures for proof. I’m definitely disappointed.

DON'T BUY A CAR HERE. The car listed for sale showed an obvious sign of an electrical issue. The CarMax Los Angeles location near LAX misrepresented the cars options as loaded. They claim a thorough inspection and yet 50% of the car's lighting system failed and was inoperative. SEE PICTURES. The reps via chat burdened me call this store and then argued with me. They claimed a manager was notified which was untrue. CarMax to date has taken no action. They tell you what you want to hear. They make promises they can't keep. I asked for an inspection report which was unavailable. Their rep Avery, in their Oregon call center, did not know and TOOK NO action or offered to send it. I spoke with Phil in Customer Relations who was totally incompetent. At every turn, he was defensive and tried to spin CARMAX's false advertising. He told me their Feature Score was the number of options which was patently false. When confronted with this he did not apologize and continued with misdirection. The conversation turned contentious as he talked over me. It is in fact a score of 1-10. The problem is the score is a LIE. Is should be a 3 once I pulled the options using the VIN. The conduct of CarMax is one of profound dishonesty, NO EVIDENCE OF INSPECTIONS or follow through. Looking into CarMax further shows allegations of the company failing to do inspections. See attachment. UPDATE Oct 29: CarMax is the biggest time drain and the most unpleasant experience I've ever had to endure. Employees waste your time and insult your intelligence. You'll be placed into an endless loop of dysfunction and empty rhetoric that they are customer centric between their various departments. Their 'customer relations group' is uncooperative and does nothing. It has zero ability to solve any issues. They are nothing more than a data harvesting entity. This company treats people with such disdain. Their cars are $3,000-$4,000 over market with barely any money spent on reconditioning. DON'T JUST WALK AWAY. RUN! There inspection process is light and they have been sued because of it.

Extremely Disappointed – Personal Belongings Missing After Visit I visited CarMax for a service/check on my vehicle, and after the visit, I discovered that my Canon G7X Mark III camera (Serial No. 042080000673) was missing from the car. It was inside when I dropped off the vehicle for inspection, and it was gone when I picked it up. I’ve reached out to CarMax about the situation, but haven’t received any helpful resolution or support. While I can’t say for certain who was responsible, I believe the only people who had access to my vehicle during this time were the associates working on it — possibly Tyler and one other associate. I find it incredibly upsetting that such an expensive personal item went missing in what should be a trusted business. I’ve filed a police report and am actively searching for my stolen property. I expected better security and accountability from a company like CarMax. I’m sharing this to caution others — do not leave any valuables in your car, even if you believe it’s in safe hands.

I walked in and asked where the SUV’s were, told them the brand, and off I went to browse. No pressure tactics, no sales pitches, found the one that I wanted to test drive, and then purchased it with the extended warranty. Everyone there was kind and patient with my questions. I’d purchase from here again when it’s time for another car in the family.

Canaan was hands down one of the best car salesman I've ever dealt with. His can-do attitude and quick wit made the whole experience feel effortless. Walking through CarMax with him felt like we were rolling with the President-he gave us total confidence that we were going to leave with a car, and we did. His personality is truly unmatched. From a very clean open entrance to exit it was a nice experience. Greeter was what a greeter should be friendly and guided us to the appropriate department. A short line and another friendly person to sign us in. We had another wait while our vehicle was checked over then we were handed the paperwork and an unexpected surprise the offer was more than the initial email offer. All paperwork was in order and another nice rep took care of matters. Definitely will recommend carmax if you’d like to sell your vehicle. Yay!

The process was great. I had Mayra as my sales representative and she did a great job showing me the vehicles I was interested in. I ultimately chose the one for me. Paperwork and payment was smooth, I also traded in my car and that was super smooth as well. I was in and out within 2 hours. I'm glad I went to this location and got the sales rep I got. Super happy!!!

Horrible experience. We were super interested in buying a car that costs 50k but they made us wait for 30 min even though we made an appointment. We wanted to talk to the manager but he ran away. It’s clearly their fault for not adhering to the appointment time but no apologies and their tone was condescending. Very unprofessional and I don’t want to do any business with a dealer that doesn’t respect customers’ time when they could make a good commission.

I applied and received my estimate online. Then chose the expedited checkout. I had to upload necessary documents online. Once documents were reviewed and I received approval to sell my car to Carmax, I scheduled the appointment online. The morning of my appointment Janay called to confirm. When I arrived the whole process took about 30-40 minutes. They inspected my vehicle. Janay went over the paperwork with me. I signed necessary papers and received my check in hand same day. They even offered to take care of my Lyft but I had a ride. Janay and the rest of the staff were nice, professional and knowledgeable. Great experience from start to finish

Bought a new(to me) BMW 330i over the weekend. The process was super simple compared to other dealerships Stefanie our sales rep made the process quick and easy, she was also very friendly and helpful. It was a great experience visiting CarMax! I initially went in just to browse, knowing I was interested in getting a Tesla, and you guys had a few in stock. Jeffrey, I believe, was the one who helped me out. I had my mom with me, and since she’s Hispanic, she had a few questions of her own. Jeffrey, being bilingual, was able to answer all of her questions, which was a big plus. Overall, the service was excellent. I’ll definitely be coming back when it’s time to purchase vehicles for my kids!

Buyers beware i purchased a 2017 Ford raptor from this location from Carmax and very disappointed. I've had issue after issue only had it for two years and now it needs a full engine swap and Carmax will not do anything about it. I will never purchase a vehicle from this company again Especially with this horrible experience thousands of dollars later buyers beware

I am very satisfied with my recent experiences and purchase from Carmax. Purchased a 2013 Rx350 and the vehicle had to be shipped. The shipping process was timely and I was well informed of when the vehicle arrived and was ready to view. Went in on a Saturday morning and was able to complete my purchase within a few hours. Also did a trade in and was very happy at how smoothly that went as well. Had the vehicle examined by my mechanic and did find some items that needed attention. I brought those items to my sales consultant Godfrey's attention and a service appointment was scheduled. CarMax took care of all of the issues that were found excluding some normal maintenance items. Service was timely and quite thorough. Communication from start to finish has been fantastic and I would highly recommend CarMax to anyone looking for a vehicle. Yes. Their prices are perhaps a little more expensive than other dealerships. But with my very pleasant experience and the amount of repairs that were put in to my vehicle under their warranty it was well worth the additional price because of its great value. Highly recommended.
