I would highly recommend looking at the bill before paying so you can get an explanation on the bill. I did everything they told me then they charged for something completely different. It wasn't much of an over charge just the fact they tell you exactly what to do and you follow it and they still charge you more. I had my foreman in the truck right behind mine with the exact same load and that bill was exactly the way they said it would be charged. Feel like I was scammed, a very unpleasant surprise.
I am writing to express my frustration with being charged an appliance fee, despite not having any appliances. The fee was based on an accusation that I threw away an appliance, which is completely false.
A staff member claimed to have seen me dispose of an appliance. When I requested to review the camera footage to verify this claim, I was told that the camera quality was insufficient to show the event clearly.
I then approached the manager to address the issue. Unfortunately, the manager dismissed my concerns, stating that if the staff member said they saw me dispose of the appliance, then it must be true. When I asked for further assistance, the manager responded rudely and told me to “complain to the city.”
This entire experience has been incredibly frustrating and unfair. There was no solid evidence to justify the fee, and the handling of my complaint was unprofessional and dismissive. I strongly encourage others to consider the level of service and fairness provided before making any decisions here.
I hope this matter is addressed properly, as I expect better treatment and a fair resolution.
Watch out, they will charge you the unsecured load fee even if everything is below your bed with zero need for securing. Unless you come early mornings the lines are usually very long
After a nightmarish experience on a Sunday getting shaken down for an exorbitant fee at the Golden Bear transfer station in Richmond (where Republic seems to have ContraCosta County in an old-school mob garbage company racket), we had the good sense to wait just one more day with our rented truck and try the Berkeley transfer station.
IT COST 1/4 OF WHAT RICHMOND TRIED TO CHARGE US -- $50 instead of $221 - plus it is right next door to the very efficient recycling center where you can first strip your load of all recyclables. And the attitude of the people here in Berkeley is remarkably friendly and helpful. They got us neophytes with our big u-Haul through the process without any glitches or problems.
Kudos to the very kind people at all four Berkeley facilities - the electronics re-use, the recycling center, the shredding depot, and finally, the dump. Each one has helpful staff and where prices are involved, they are fair. Obviously Berkeley wants us to do the right thing with our household waste.
HEADS UP. To avoid spending an unnecessary $15 extra dollars: MAKE SURE YOUR LOAD IS SECURED, upon arrival. I was told you can use straps, tarps, or other netting.
The process was easy and straight forward. I just wish I had known about the extra fee. Lesson learned.
Wrong hours, Google. They close at 4 PM! I requested that Google change this two years ago and they still haven’t. I bicycled all the way out here only to find them closed.
They were closed during their open hours at 11am on a Tuesday and did not give a time they would open back up, which left us on our own to find a new place.
I saw someone giving cupcakes to the cashier one day and I said "Wow can I pay w/ delicious cupcakes also?" and the cashier smiled then gave ME a cupcake! So, now I bring them cupcakes whenever I go.
Herman Cleveland and his Manger were very rude to me. The gate was not yet closed, there was a small line ahead of me. I came in at 4:30 pm. I told Herman I had only 2 items to drop off. Herman told me to leave in a very rude demeaning way. When I expressed that it was 4:30 pm and they closed at 5 pm if I could just drop my two items Herman responded in a sarcastic and again, demeaning manner.
I understand if businesses need to close earlier to regulate flow so that employees don't stay too late. I have been a manager at multiple establishments. However, if I were alerting a customer to a 30 minute early closing time due to a last minute serge of customers I would never speak to them in such a degrading way.
I dropped off an old mattress (free for CA residents) and they were all very nice and friendly. The people at the entrance even gave my dog a treat.
I came today, a Saturday, which I thought would be really busy, but was in and out in about 5 minutes.
Haven't been in quite a while. Checking in on my former coworkers. Repaired solid waste equipment there for 28+ years. Ahhhh still smells the same. Was a great place to work. Still use the dumping facility, when needed. Sometimes very busy & slow getting to the weight station.
Don't trust the website or calling the phone number to confirm what they don't accept. I just wasted 2 hours and still need to go remove a trash cans then come back. It will likely add up to 4-5 wasted hours. I'm going to make them an engraved plaque that says "not my job, not my problem". If I was not a responsible person I would go leave this on the street, which clearly a lot of other people do.
Very nice place for debris removal, great pricing, friendly staff. I’ve been coming here for over 15 years, great experience every time! Finding the right time to come here is key, they’re usually very busy and be sure to secure your load!
It's completely random if you're going to wait 2 minutes 20 minutes or 200 minutes in line. They really need to have a line length section on their website.
Good guys, pretty busy but fast in and out.. Had a problem with my debit card not having a chip so they would not accept it for some reason, had to do an over the phone payment. But over all a good place to go dump trash at!
There's usually a line to get in. Employees are all very friendly and helpful. Reasonable prices and regulations. Getting back out is fast. Well run facility!
Like this better. It beats Republic hands down. Republic charges to much to dump a truck full of garbage. Berkeley is better if I lived in Berkeley Alameda county
The staff is a very capable group they are able to direct incoming vehicles to the proper spot to dump and considering it is a super small place they are able to do this very quickly
out of 15 trips to this location there has only been one time I have had to wait to dump my stuff and it was less than 2 min.
Cost for larger size truck cost me a range from $53 to $75
I have a flatbed truck with 5 ft side and rear boards $53 to dump it a little over half full and $75 to dump it full and trash piled slightly higher than the 5ft boards
I helped my girlfriend move a bunch of junk lying around her apartment complex. There was a mattress, box spring, and a bunch of old particle board furniture. We loaded up a Toyota mini-van and took it down to the Berkeley transfer center. There was a long line of cars starting from halfway down the block outside the center, but the line moved pretty quickly. We were in line for about 30 minutes.
We drove up a ramp onto a big scale where they weighed the van, and directed us to a section for mattresses and another area for general garbage. After unloading there was a short line back over the same scale to weigh the van again. It came out to $29.
The place looks well organized and the people who work there are professional and courteous. It's nice to get rid of a bunch of junk that was junking up the place, so that was great.
All I had was one wooden desk and got charged $44.00. Supposedly a $29.00 minimum charge, plus another $15.00 for not having it secured.whatever that means.why would I have to secure a heavy desk? What a ripoff
I’ve been using this establishment since 1990. Always a great group of people who have great and independent personalities.
The price is a third of Richmond’s dump fees and less than half of Davis Street San Leandro’s fees.
Never had a problem. I’ve even gotten a free dump when their computer system shut down. I think I saved myself $200 that day! It was a very heavy load!
Expect long lines.
Went on Tuesday afternoon and took almost an hour to get through the line to get in.
But once I was in, it was easy to dump and be on my way.
$29 to dump some old exercise equipment.
The guys were rude as hell. Accused me of having “marijuana waste” and turned me away without looking through any bags. There was no weed or weed related products anywhere in the vehicle. Had to drive all the way to the east Oakland dump smh. Who throws away weed?! Horrible
They charge by weight. You know what you’re going to pay here. Richmond landfill eyeballs your load and charges by volume. I found Berkeley is WAY cheaper.
Best run facility bar none. Always cordial and professional. Consistent, easy, quick, reasonable, smooth, no BS. I shouldn't be giving this away, but it's the only 5 star facility in its category.
