This was a great experience! The event was really well organized and the emcee was quite humorous. We got there early and had seats right up front. Total blast!!!!
This was the most fun I've had at a 4th of July event EVER!
Walking up the hill almost gave me a heart attack, though. Both times. Literally. The staff playing around with atvs, hot-rodding, goofing off and going up and down the hill stirred up so much dust it was hard to breathe. I'll be sure not to park at the top next time!
Launch isn't as fun for Alaska s with all the party people and tourist. Having to wait 8 hours just due to parking. Took 4 hours to get out of parking lot. Seems they're cashing in on this anymore. The ticket prices were to include costs of trash and outhouses which is never enough (trash over full and on ground whole time and outhouse all hit the brim of full). Plus they charge the people $300 for a clean up fee to launch the vehicles they're making profit from as well which they said was part of our ticket price. Cost to enter went up, no stickers at entry they're now $5, shirt and hoodies went up too. Food vendors serve horrible food undercooked or overcooked. Will pass after this year as a time attendee.
What an experience! The car launch itself was spectacular, but the political talk from the speaker could've been less. Great support for the veterans and active duty military. Glad we where able to witness and be a part of this event while it's still happening. With the erosion of the river bank I'm not sure how long it'll still go on. See it if you can. Long lines for both food and port-a-potties.
Super fun time. I watched the U tube documentation & felt I’d seen it , but it’s nothing like being there. Fantastic scenery, crowd, organizers & the smashing & crashing
Went to see cars get launched off a cliff and got there early for good seating. Got six hours of being called an unamerican idiot clown because my political and spiritual beliefs don’t align with whoever held the microphone.
At one point it was announced that anyone who didn’t agree with signing a political petition could leave.
The cars getting launched were cool. Being ridiculed and pressured into signing a petition I didn’t agree with was not.
One of the friendliest and accommodating customer service. We were coming from AZ with not a clear understanding of the logistics of the event. Arnie was above and beyond helpful.
In which world is it normal to transform a mountain and a river in a dump ?
This kind of activity generates a lot of chiminal and material pollutions.
The Matanuska river is typically polluted and going to the see afterwards.
I missed probably a point but it looks like a joke.
Or maybe this is a metaphor to make us remember how cars (and other human activities emiting GHG) are warming up the globe and erasing glaciers ?
We tried to see the cliff on our August trip. Unfortunately the property is private when no event is happening. No trespassing is allowed past the store. Not even to get a picture of the glacier.
I honestly wouldn't go to this. It was super cool but you have to get there super early to get a good spot and even then, you'll have people crowding you and keeping you in the spot, so going to the bathroom is really really difficult. There's so many people that it was impossible to actually move around and see anything. People park down at the launch, so the cars will make it harder to see if you aren't there the night before camping out in your car.
The hike to the launch is decent, a little rough if you're out of shape, in a wheelchair, or have small kids. I don't recommend bringing a stroller. There's a lot of rocks and people, so it makes it harder to move.
Overall, it was a cool experience ig. I probably won't go back.
Had a great time at the car launch. Traffic was a little crazy but what do you expect when 10,000 people invade a town of 200. Be ready to sit in traffic for a bit and have an unforgettable experience watching cars be launched off a cliff. Be sure to bring a cooler for drinks and some chairs if ya wanna pop a squat.
Amazing show. Get there very very early. Expect to do some walking. Down side took about about 2hrs to get out and very overpriced food. But lots of carnage over the cliff. Your so close its like the cars are gonna land in your lap.
Second time visiting this place on the Fourth and highly recommend. Great food trucks. Great photos. Lots of fun. Be prepared to walk 20-30 minutes from the highway to the viewing area downhill.
We also parked 2 miles from the entrance because traffic was bad an hour before the start. Yay for good sneakers.
Bring a folding chair and a backpack for snacks. If you can, a bike would've been great. If you have an ATV or side by side, that's great too. Or, you could take a rafting tour with NOVA guides or a flightseeing tour with a local operator.
Many took souvenirs home from the wreckage. Haha. It was encouraged.

Absolutely amazing!!!!! The traffic was super bad and totally worth it. The view was incredible. The crowd was exciting. The announcer was hilarious. The food trucks were delicious. The program was unbelievable - coast guard cargo jet, 4 small planes, helicopter, base jumper/skydiver, zipliners, and 20+ cars off the cliff. Unreal experience.
