What clients say about Devils Tower National Monument in Devils Tower (WY)

This was a great day outing for our family. We took the trail that goes around the whole tower. It took around an hour for us, with 2 young children who walked the whole way themselves. We also stopped to read the signage and look for wildlife. We saw chipmunks, bison, prairie dogs, tons of birds. Overall a fun day out. Inexpensive/'free' if you have an American the beautiful pass. Restrooms were clean. And we only saw one other person on the trail when we went because we went in winter.

Amazing natural formation, with some neat factoids of humanity’s interactions with it. The ladder first used in 1893 to climb this formation is still visible with binoculars, or a very good camera. Plenty of informative plaques are present alongside lots of wildlife. We hope to return soon!

Perfect time to visit is sunrise with a coffee so you can watch the sun come up with the prairie dogs. The prayer cloths were confusing at first, but we found out they are Native American prayer cloths not to be touched or photoed. We visited the Tower before the Visitor Center opened, but they had the passport stamps setup outside the building! Beautiful views and lots of history!

A neat little experience! We enjoyed seeing the monument and stopping by the visitor center! Be sure to check this place out and get some awesome souvenirs!

We go here at least once a year and love walking the trails and seeing the sights. Never gets old. Beautiful place.

Obviously if you grew up in the 70s and the 80s you know of devils tower from close encounters. Seeing it on TV does not do it justice. When you are standing at the base you are in awe of the size and beauty of the tower. There are some walking paths around the base of the tower and it wasn't too busy. This is a MUST SEE if you are in Wyoming.

I marked this one off of my bucket list on October 1, 2022. Amazing experience! Wear some comfortable walking shoes. The tower is much more impressive than any picture or film that you will see. The columns are massive. (see the pictures I posted of the climbers) I got there early in the morning and the clouds were still covering the top of the tower. There were prairie dogs all around before I got to the entrance so I got some good pics of them. I found the short trail and walked all the way around it; It took me about three hours but I was stopping and taking Pictures of the landscape, the rock itself, and the climbers that were there that day (every step is a postcard view, it's a photographers buffet.) I hope to go back some day. For anyone wondering: if I remember correctly, "pets are not allowed" on the trails, and there are no restrooms on the trails. So if you plan on traveling with pets keep this in mind and double check it before you go. Otherwise this is a great place to spend the day hiking, taking pictures and exploring. The gift shop is full of all kinds of memorabilia for those who like to collect those things.

We visited here with family and had a mixed group that included several kids and a family member using a wheelchair. The main paths were wide, well maintained, and easy to navigate, which made the visit comfortable for everyone. It was nice not having to worry about accessibility while still being able to enjoy most of the area together. The kids were able to move around easily, and the wheelchair-friendly paths allowed us to stay as a group without needing to take separate routes. Overall, it was a smooth and enjoyable visit for our entire family, and the accessible layout made a big difference in making sure everyone could participate and feel included.

Unique and fascinating, this place has been on my bucket list for a very long time. With such an incredible scenery and background, it's no wonder a blockbuster movie was filmed here. The attention to historic detail and pop culture in the visitor center was highly interesting. It is somewhat of a chore to get here if you are coming from out of town. Nothing really close by and you are a long drive from the next thing to see. Definitely plan for lots of driving, which of course was fine with me because I love road trips

This is one of those incredible wonders of the world. Great little paved hiking trails that are not super difficult. Stellar views of the valley surrounding. Perfect way to get lost in nature for an hour or two. Also, shout-out to the gift shop for keeping the bathrooms open and the lights on admist the government shutdown in the fall of 2025.

Devils Tower is one of those places that hits you with a “wow” the second it comes into view — photos don’t do the scale justice. The rock formation feels almost otherworldly, and the vertical column texture makes it so unique. I loved the Tower Trail hike; it’s not too long, but gives you amazing views from every angle. The area around it feels clean, peaceful, and perfect for a slow, scenic reset. Overall, it’s a bucket-list spot that leaves you feeling small in the best, most humbling way.

Accessible for all, no hike needed unless you want to. The easy 1.6 miles loop around the base have amazing views. Nice scenic drive with red rocks, hay bails and longhorn cows.

Everyone will have their own experience as it will differ from person to person. I had a surreal and profound one, visiting this enormous monument also called as Mato Tipila. There are two trails, Tower and Red beds trail. I would recommend doing the tower loop trail as it circles close to the tower. There are some amazing Lookout points once you’ll finish about 3/4 of the loop going clockwise. Do check out the visitor center / gift shop and learn about all the different folklore regarding how the tower was formed. Since the shutdown is in place, there was no entry fees, but otherwise I believe it $25. -Do keep an eye out for the climbers as that will give you an idea of how big the tower is and also how stupid and audacious humans are to mess with everything that is out there irrespective of the fact that some places have spiritual importance and hold deep relations to some tribes. I did not stay for the night, but I’m sure the sky would be very amazing to watch during the night time. If you are into stargazing/Milky Way then then you should go for it. Do check the weather before your visit as it can change within minutes While I was there, twice it snowed a little bit, and then the sun came out as well. A couple of nearby spots that you can also visit are the Prairie dog town and wind circle sculpture. I visited those places on my way back to Rapid City. Hope this was helpful.

This is my favorite place in north eastern wyoming! Its only about an hour and a half from Rapid City. If youre visiting mount rushmore and skipping devils tower, what even are you doing? There is a very easy hike around the base of the tower, where you can see the full 360 degrees of it, and gasp at the crazy rock climbers! Theres also tons of prarie dogs and deer here! It is NOT pet friendly. And that isn't to be mean to dogs. There are porcupines here and the closest vet is over an hour away. It is NOT pet friendly for the safety of your animals, not for the annoyance of you. Please leave your dogs at home or in your camper, or skip the hiking trail. There is RV parking here! And camping near and around here! It is very family friendly. The hike around the base is easy and short, even the newly walking will enjoy it, and when they want mommy or daddy to carry them you dont have a terribly long way to do so *exclusive to the time im writing this, the visitor center is open amid the government shut down. The book store is owned by a non government entity and is sponsoring the center being open*

Devils Tower National Monument completely blew me away. Seeing this massive rock formation rise out of the rolling hills is absolutely awe-inspiring. Pictures don’t do it justice; you have to experience it in person to appreciate how majestic and otherworldly it feels. The trails around the base are fantastic, well-marked, scenic, and full of viewpoints that show off the tower from every angle. The park is clean, well-maintained, and easy to explore. Whether you’re hiking, taking photos, or just soaking in the view, Devils Tower is a must-see. Truly one of the most unique and powerful natural landmarks!!

Getting up to the parking lot took an hour because there's a stop light at the bottom of the hill that filters how much traffic gets to the top. Of course this is after you've already entered into the park, so if you turn around and leave you would pay to have seen nothing. This is an easy attraction to visit once you get to the top. There is a walkable trail, and lots of parking. Or benches looking at it if thats more your speed. The visitor center has many collectable items as well as a self guided tour of history. You can sign up to climb it, just remember what you are climbing and that it is sacred ground.

It was a stunning park! Careful this time of year the wasps are out and very cranky! Pets were not allowed pn the trails which was a bummer but I get it not everyone is responsible with thier animals... All in all its a beautiful area worth exploring!

Beautiful small park with million dollar views and fantastic trails. Takes a couple of days to hike them all unless you are really energetic, but there is a nice campground right in the park so you don’t even have to leave. Personally I would avoid the overcrowded (and slippery) paved trail from the visitors center. The Red Bed trail, although longer, gives much better views and is much less crowded.

Close encounters of the third kind flashback. A must see, get you NP passport stamped. Enjoy the 1.6mile loop around devils tower and get your steps in. Easy to medium trail depending on your fitness level. Climbing and repel options available upon registration.

Great place to see especially if your inspired by natural wonders. Very spiritual experience being surrounded by all of the native prayer rags hanging from trees too. Be prepared for some walking.

This was on my bucket list for a while. It can be seen outside the park as well as in the park. We used our lifetime national park pass. Otherwise, it is $25. It's a see it once trip and done. However, we'll worth your time if in the area.

Devils Tower is one of those iconic places you simply shouldn’t miss. It's conveniently located near the main route, so you don't need to make a big detour to visit. The formation itself is incredibly impressive, with several circular trails offering different perspectives of the tower. You can get close enough to clearly see the unique hexagonal columns of rock, which make the site so geologically fascinating. The earlier you arrive, the fewer people you’ll encounter—and the more likely you are to see wild animals up close, calmly going about their day without rushing away. The area is also rich in spiritual atmosphere, with ritual trees whose branches are covered in colorful talismans left by visitors. You can think in advance and bring a bright ribbon or small necklace to tie to a tree and make a wish in this sacred place. Best of all, visiting Devils Tower is completely free of charge.

Remarkable formation - that first view of it standing out against the landscape is unreal. Recommend doing the loop hike around it for some interesting info plaques and varied angles. A classic road trip stop different from anything else!

Awesome inspiring natural formation. I highly recommend doing the short 1.6 mile trail around the base of the monument. The trail has a few ups and downs but is overall easy to walk.

Always a great place to visit. Imposing and just such a presence on the landscape. Good walks and pretty easy to go around. Nice visitor center. Wish there was more info but still nice. Good ride out and a nice couple of stores outside the entrance.

Absolutely beautiful and spiritual visit to Devil's Tower! Unbelievable seeing the climbers go up the side of Devil's Tower and come back down in the dark with their headlamps on, make sure you bring your binoculars! And a great little Campground down below! It was one of my favorites!

Cool place to stop. There are two trails around the tower. One shorter (45min-1h) on a paved surface and the longer one. The visitor center has cool data and a small shop. It also has water to refill the bottles and flush bathrooms. You can use the National Park Annual Pass to enter for free.

We really enjoyed Devil’s Tower. If all you want is a great view of the tower and photos, there are places to pull off before you enter the park. I’d suggest stopping there and saving the entry fee. If you want to get close up, you might want to park at the picnic area and hike up the South Side Trail to the Red Beds Trail. We turned left on the Red Beds trail and that took us up to the visitor center at the base of the tower. The reason I suggest this is because we first tried driving up to the center. But when you get close, there is a stop light. Because there is limited parking at the top, they only let cars in as cars go out. After about ten minutes of not moving in that line with cars lined up ahead of us as far as I could see, I turned around and parked at the picnic area. We hiked up and saw all kinds of incredible views that you won’t get to see from the Tower Trail at the top. We also had fun taking pictures of the prairie dogs on the way up. Now, my daughter and I are runners and in very good shape. If you don’t like hiking up a mountain, this would not be for you. If you come early in the day, maybe there isn’t such a line of cars at the top.

Very impressive rock formation!! We loved hearing about all of the legends and how sacred this place is to the natives. The views all around the bas wood it are incredible. It’s a moderate hike up and down around it. My kids and dad were tired so they didn’t go around. Took me a little over an hour to complete. Nice visitor center as well. Bathrooms are below and behind the center or at the end of the parking lot at the beginning of the trail. Lots of trash bins around as well. There a junior ranger program for kids that you can pick up a booklet for them to complete. Bring plenty of water to take with you. It was a warm day for us. I did see some people can climb the rock with permits. There are also longer trails to walk.

Outstanding! This should be a "bucket list" item for each and every person! It's so beautiful and impressive amongst natural beauty that's been well kept! They're a couple of trails to walk around the monument! The 2.8M is the outer trail with a handful of places to actually take photos of the monument without obstructions! The inner trail is 1.2M, surrounds the base, is busy with people, and is full of opportunities for beautiful photos throughout! This is definitely a national treasure! We did learn instead of following the crowd into the massive parking lot, we pulled up to the entrance and parked in front! We did wait on traffic for approximately an hour, too get into the park itself. It was a busy time to visit, but well worth the wait! The gift shop is small, and the bathrooms are beyond filthy, so be prepared! Anytime we're close to this national monument, we're gonna take the time to stop! It's mesmerizing! We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! Safe travels!
