Yes I gave it a three star because one of the employee lady ls complain even when it's not busy or how many bags I've collected of cans. bringing rudeness and disrespect to a recycling job for people in the neighborhood that need these resources. Not good.
Always treated well. The gal at the station once noticed I had some aluminum in with the steel and asked if I wanted to separate them. I really didn't care because I was doing my annual garage cleaning.
I have been going to West Allis Salvage since I was a youngster and I have always received top pay for all of my junk! Reasonably I started walking and driving the streets of West Allis and Milwaukee and boy are there the cans just laying around up and down the streets for the pickings I have been making twenty to fifty dollars a week weather permitting just in cans! I know West Allis Salvage has always been much closer than the other scrap dealing mostly in Milwaukee and pay basically the same price without having to drive miles when there just six blocks away from my home! The workers have always been more than friendly and helpful except for just one who has a very bad attitude when questioning or asking about scrap when I bring my things to the scale! Hopefully some day she gets something to be happy about instead of being grumpy to loyal customers! Update she actually got friendly today after seeing me dumpster diving this week maybe Cindy I believe is going to be nice to me from now on
First time scrapper here and this was super easy!! The lady by the scale was helpful and provided us excellent directions!! The scanning machine in the lobby makes getting your cash quick and easy!! I will definitely be back!! Thank you!!
I had a bunch of assorted metal and this was my first time in a long time going to a scrap yard but the guy working the scales showed me what items to separate out to get a better return which it did and it'll also make things go faster the next time I visit so thanks again for the help .
Horrible service, I came in with my catalytic converter , I actually walked in with my service dog because my engine went on my truck. So I had no choice but to walk. They said I couldn't walk in Incase I stole it, smh...then the lady BARELY looked at it and said I can do 25$. I said what about the other one. She glanced at it and said I'll do 10$..
Catalytic converters Easley go for 200-400$ . I caught her whispering to someone. So I feel she pocketed the rest of the money.
I had my neighbor pull-up and drive me in..I feel I was scammed.
It is what it is at this point and I NEEDED that money. But I can't prove anything except for what I saw and dealt with. Never again will I deal with them..it was a lesson learned. I hope the money she played me for helped her more then it was supposed to help me.
I understand there's people who steal but that's NOT me. But to be treated as tho I may have stole the catalytic converter isn't right.
I've been going there every few months for years. It's usually a quick process and I take home a decent amount of cash for saving our aluminum. The staff has always been friendly and courteous to me & have never witnessed any problems. Fellow customers need to remember to treat others as they would like to be treated on occasion though ....
Scammers avoid! Stole my money over an honest mistake! The lady by the scale is the absolute most heartless power abusing lady I have ever met in my life! Accused me of scamming them over an honest mistake no one had ever corrected. AVOID AVOID AVOID. I drove across town because I thought they were still as good as they were nope! I can tell business there has slowed down and I see why. They prey on people who have no choice luckily for me its just a hobby! That being said no one likes a scammer and this place definitely is a scam. Best prices my left foot! Then had the nerve to redo my ticket as im trying to cash out. That's super sketchy! That's like someone chasing you out of a store because they charged the wrong price and accuse you of stealing because of it. Dont go here! To add the icing to the cake when I was wheeling over the cans in their bins this lady literally watched me struggle all the way to her and then rudely demanded I turn it around for her! I'm really shocked they have someone so utterly heartless and foul dealing with the public! Seriously I bet she could stare at an animal or plant and it would die! Soulless being no empathy and thats why its not reciprocated. You reao what you sow. I didn't get an attitude until she did. Take your ive got something to prove self somewhere thats not a public business. I dont know who or what hurt you bit dont take it out on the rest of the world! Took my stuff back saying it wasn't what I said it was to keep it and profit of it themselves! The lady at the scale is a scammer! She will tell you lies right to your face so they can underpay you! Thats the only reason this company is still up is this scam they've got. Shady business!

Current aluminum can price...60 cent's per lb.which is a super good price !!! I made $12 by just taking 3 kitchen size garbage bags of can's in and kept them out of the Landfill at the same time !!!
I was homeless for a long spell and during some of those years I brought aluminum cans here fished out of garbage cans in alleys from s60th to s76th. Always got a decent price. In them days making $20.00 was a lot

Very clean and easy way to get cash for your scrap metal. Easy in & exit, very well laid out & user friendly. Staff was nice and pleasant to work with.
The old woman by the scale is the most evil person I ever met in my life if Jesus Christ came down and told her to be more friendly to the customers she would tell him no A word of advice to all you people with scrap metal there are a lot of other scrap yards you do not have to sell here it’s worth the drive to go somewhere else not to come to this place The prices are absolutely horrible and the staff could not be worse

Rude and not helpfull
I've been going to this salvage yard ever since I could remember and it's sad to say but has horribly went down hill other then the new "paint job" on the building. The Owner/manager is a huge Pilon to the point I've loaded up my aluminum BACK up with me. The prices are a spit in the face making you wish you had never wasted your time even recycling.. best off throwing it all out and let the garbage men keep working.
This place makes me Sick.
I called to ask about pricing. The guys were patient but the pricing was very low - most of the prices were in the area of $.10/pound. They claimed their horrendously low prices were because of the cost of removing paint from the metals but, even for the bare metal their prices were way below current market value. For comparison, I called National Salvage, who offered $.095/lb. Unfortunately, when I first called. National Salvage and asked about the price for computer steel, the lady there gave me the price for steel cans ($.40/lb) instead, causing me to waste my time going there.
Neither one takes e-waste (capacitors, circuit boards, etc.). Given the market prices stated online, neither is offering a fair price, but National Salvage is marginally worse. Go here.
If you're scrapping PCs, you'll definitely want to break apart the metals (extruded aluminum, sheet aluminium, steel, iron, copper, etc) to get a fair price, or you will get about the same price as for sheet iron/steel. Minimum weight is 5 lbs.
They were mostly nice and helpful here. They have bins, carts and hoppers, and a small area for unloading.
Having been to a few scrap yards, this one is the cleanest safest and most friendly I've been at. They are super quick and not very picky (which probably means they're paying less than others)
Overall strongly recommend wether you have a few pieces or a truck load
West Allis Salvage is a recycling center. They accept all types of metal. (They do not accept propane or helium tanks.) You simply take your stuff in, they weigh it and print a ticket. Take the ticket to the ATM-type machine, it scans the bar code and you are suddenly richer. They are very efficient and, for a recycling center, it is relatively clean and odorless.
