They are a humble, friendly, honest, and a genuinely kind family-owned business.
The team is very knowledgeable. And they are really great at educating their customers. They share information and make sure customers understand what they need to know about parts and labor. They’re also amazing at explaining the process and what to expect.
They offer very competitive pricing. They are prompt with scheduling and prompt with repairs. They even work past closing hours to ensure they meet promised deadlines.
I had to have the alternator replaced on my vehicle. After checking out other repair shops, I knew I had to go to First Rate Auto.
Having been a previous customer, they remembered me and they are the only repair shop who I trust with my vehicle.
They provided me with comprehensive services, such as towing, diagnostics, education, parts and great repair work. All at an affordable price and all with dedicated attention.
They towed my vehicle late afternoon on Sunday, had my alternator fixed by Monday morning. The turnaround time was incredible. Because it’s extremely inconvenient to be without a vehicle. They made what was scary to me very easy and very convenient. So efficient.

I was in town from NC visiting my daughter and her husband last week and lost my purse. I checked with places I had been with no luck. Canceled cards and just assumed it was gone. Today, I got a call from my bank that Yaqub in Milwaukee had found my card and has left his phone number! I called him back and the purse had all of its contents, including cash, credit cards and my key fob. He had found it outside of a store I had visited and brought it into the shop for safe keeping and thought to call my bank. This is just beyond! I was not a customer and Yaqub just did this kindness for the sake of being kind… nothing in it for him. If I lived in Milwaukee, this would be a business I would absolutely patronize!

After calling around, this was the only shop that was able to fit me in within a reasonable time. I brought my car the next day for a diagnostic, and within 24 hours it was completely fixed. I was only charged for the diagnostic. Yaqub took great care of me, and I will definitely be coming back if my car experiences any more issues.
5 stars is not enough for this place. I’ve taken both of our cars here multiple times and they’ve been nothing but great to us. Always getting our cars back to us in a timely manner, so friendly, and I almost always spend less than I think I will for good quality work on our Hondas. If you’re looking for your honest neighborhood mechanic, you’ve found it.
Edit - months later, I had some car issues. My car died on the side of the road. They sent a mechanic with a jump pack to start my car and help me limp it home. Absolutely not something they have to do. Please support this shop. You would not get this kind of service from a dealership and these guys are as honest and fair as it gets. Can’t say enough good things about them.

My experience with First Rate Auto was great from the very beginning. Initially went in for an emissions test. When my car failed, they not only explained the reason why, but also provided a plan to fix my car's issue. Pricing was also very nice! Repair was done in about an hour, and a week later my car passed emissions. I highly recommend First Rate Auto. Great service, great rates, and extremely professional/kind people!
I've never even thought of posting a review before. This is now my second visit for an emissions test. Both times, I was in-and-out in twenty minutes. And, each time I've had a great interaction with the store manager, Yaqub. I look forward to returning, unfortunately for me, for some additional service work. I'll post an updated review when completed.
I first initially went there just for an emissions test, the wait was not long at all, and I was in and out. I ended up getting an oil change two days later. The customer service was great, they were very professional, and the mechanics were super nice. The prices were very reasonable. I would recommend this place.
If I could give First Rate 10 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I definitely would. My car needed everything from Engine light on to Brake repair. The Mechanic provided up front communication from start to finish, he provided quality work to my vehicle that was unmatched. If you’re looking for top- notch service at a reasonable price. I would highly recommend.

Can’t recommend these guys enough. They’ve been phenomenal to work with. I’ve taken 2 vehicles to them for a ton of work and both run amazing. Yaqub is a very honest guy and was very helpful in determining how much work and money to put into the vehicles. He also worked hard to give me discounts and deals at every opportunity that he could. I solely come here now for every car need. It’s also been a one-stop shop for me as they have connections with guys who did my windshield and portered another car for me as well. First rate auto has been the best auto body shop I’ve been to by far.
Unfortunately they failed to consider human factors, they post a very large sign in that says "park car on street for emissions" in there entrance and do not have a desk that is visible from the door. This leads you to believe you should wait in line on the street. Despite being there 10 minutes early and the second line, verifiable by all other customers, they had to push out my emissions test 1.5 hours. which i could no longer do because of work. It was a bit disrespectful of my time. I suggest they change the sign to say "please check in and park car on street for emissions".
This place definitely lives up to its name. Family owned business with top notch service. I have been here several times, twice in a pinch, and they never fail to take care of me, squeezing me in on short notice and often for far less than I anticipated it costing. Good communication, kind and easy going people, and great service all around. Highly recommend them.

Came in for an emissions test on a Monday and they were super busy! The guy at the front desk did a great job managing all the customers around him. He was kind and patient with each customer question that came at him. Once I got my testing done I was able to renew my license and get my sticker right then and there! Highly recommend for friendly and helpful service!
This is an excellent example of why we should continue to support local businesses. The guys here are very accommodating and honest, and the quality of their services are on par with dealerships - without the pretense. Highly recommended and my new shop of choice!
Hard to overstate how good this place is. Family owned and operated and you can tell. Yahya was amazing. Communicated everything clearly, worked attentively through my problem to find the best, most affordable solution, and even waited with me for my tow truck. If your car needs anything, go to First Rate.
I came in for an emissions test after finding them online, and was on my way maybe 15 minutes later. The guy that helped me was personable and friendly. For all the 1 star reviews regarding emissions testing, if you read their reviews, the tone of the review is frustration with the testing process itself, not this shop. Honestly we all should be thankful they are still doing the emissions test, it is nearly impossible to find a place still doing the tests these days.
The only thing is it can be hard to find parking, and the hours on the sign are different than what is stated on the phone. Right now it is M-F 12-3.
Also if you fail your emissions test, that's your car's fault, they aren't trying to steal you money. Don't take your frustration's out on a bad review of this place.
When I first moved to Milwaukee, I heard about an auto shop that was supposed to be amazing, but they never called back or responded to the contact form that I filled out on their website, so I decided to find another place. I did quite a bit of research and everything was pointing me to First Rate Motors, so I took my car there for my first service issue after I moved. The guys there are great. They are straightforward and honest. I mostly interact with Yahya who is a straight up solid guy - really empathetic and will do what he can to make it a smooth experience. Most of the other times I see Joe, the owner, and he's always been great to interact with, letting me know exactly what's going on and the best way forward with a repair. I will always give my money to a smaller, local independent shop over a massive dealership, and I'm happy to give it to First Rate. Highly recommend.
I have taken my car in several times. My first time was for an emission test. They were prompt and super nice. I have come in for oil changes and the service was great. When my car was leaking fluid, they got me right in so they could diagnose it even though they may not have been able to get it in right away. The service is great and these guys are knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My first visit to First-Rate Motors went very well. The vehicle I went to look at was exactly the way it was described online.. Both brothers were extremely polite, they were not pushy, they were very helpful and shared history and details on the vehicle I went to look at. I would definitely recommend this business. They have very nice cars for fair prices I'm most likely going back to purchase a vehicle from them. They have fantastic reviews which says a lot about their reputation. Not easy to find a reputable used car dealer these days. I'm pretty sure I just did!
