What clients say about Bargains Unlimited in Sister Bay (WI)

This was our favorite thrift store in Door County. We had so many great trips there finding very cute and fun clothing and useful household items for our family. I speak in the past tense because I stopped in today and I was absolutely floored by the prices. Instead of bargains unlimited, it is now prices unlimited. There are high end consignment shops that have better prices than this thrift shop. They were asking between $50-$100 for mid-tier fashion brand items. Even for items with stains or condition issues. Very well-used older appliances for about 3/4’s of what you’d pay for the newest model from the manufacturer. It’s like someone made the executive decision to start pricing by looking on eBay, but doesn’t know how to find the prices of items on eBay that have actually sold. It’s sad to see what was once a fun shopping experience for our family turn into a very over-priced junk consignment shop. The staff is still helpful, but the prices are out of control.

i’ve been coming here for over 5 years and always had such a great experience… but i just came today and tried to purchase a belt, it was missing the tag but two of the employees said they had just put it out and marked it at $40. the ladies at the register immediately started searching it on ebay and telling me it was worth $400-$2000 and proceeded to confiscate it from me and tell me it was never supposed to be put out and they needed to take it and sell it online, even though two employees just said they put it out for $40!!! after i waited for 20 minutes for them i decided i didn’t want my other item and put it back on the shelf, then an employee proceeded to CHASE me out of the store to my car and accused me of stealing. i feel so sad because this used to be such a wonderful place, but the ladies that run it now are a special kind of greedy & evil :-(

Visited Monday, July 21, 2025. We stop at this thrift store every time we’re in Door County. It is clean - there’s some good prices and some high prices a wide range of items stationary & cookware. I feel lots of stuff for camping is there. Limited selection of Good clothes. I generally don’t find any great bargains but for some reason, I still like stopping there and we did find some things that we needed that we forgot to pick up like some PJ pants and I bought some stationary for water coloring, cause I didn’t know where else to find watercolor paper for painting on the beach. Total of seven dollars is what we spent.

Update June 25th, 2025. I was hoping to increase my 3 star review from last year. Sadly that isn't going to happen. Why is everyone so CRANKY that works here?? I immediately found a box of what should have been 16 dishes, a service for 4. There was no price. I asked Vicki what the price was. She said she'd check. When I went to check a few minutes later she priced it at $28. I said I would take it. I asked her if she confirmed all 16 pieces were in there. She assured me they were. I had a bad feeling & insisted on opening the box up. THERE WERE ONLY 12 PIECES, A SERVICE FOR 3!! I live 90 minutes away. I would not have been happy if I go home & realized pieces were missing. The reviews are consistent. You will not be treated with any kindness at this store. So many items not priced. I think they judge you & then asign a price to it. This store is being removed from my list. I will not longer give my hard earned money to a business that can't show an once of kindness. After reading other reviews I consistently see poor service and high prices. As someone who has had an online vintage store for many years I think I'm qualified to give a honest reviews. I did not find the prices to be too high. I found plenty of stuff That I will definitely make a nice profit. I have 2 issues with this store. First no carts!! I was buying a lot of dishes and glassware. I would fill up a little basket & bring it up front. The first time I did this, Roger an EXTREMELY RUDE employee didn't like how I set my basket of glasses on the shelf. He angrily grabbed it & moved it. All the glasses crashed together & fell from their standing position. I was shocked none broke. I filled a 2nd basket and brought it up. There was one very friendly employee, Penny. She saw me in the Xmas area, took my full basket and brought back an empty one & carried a large stack of boxed ornaments up front. When I got to the checkout I let Roger know everything that was mine. He looked annoyed & said- that's too much stuff!! I offered to put it all away. He directed me to take some boxes & pack the stuff he checked out. That was fine, I prefer to pack my own stuff. It would have been nice if they had a table to fo this. I put my boxes on the floor to back. There was a table full of packing paper. I definitely appreciated that. Before checking me out, Roger said very bluntly- WE ONLY TAKE CASH!! I knew this & was prepared. He also shouted for someone to open another register. I was shocked when Roger offered to help carry my boxes out. It was much appreciated. In summary I was happy with prices & inventory selection. I was not happy with the way Roger talked to me. His rudeness is completely uncalled for!!

This thrift store has a little bit of everything. I always find something every time I come here. It's organized well, and the prices are the cheapest I've found in Door County for thrifting.

I just bought a set of Norwegain dishes at Bargains Unlimited. I was so happy to find them, as they remind me of my parents. : ) As I went to pay for them, I got yelled at by the clerk beacuse I set the dishes down in the "wrong" spot. Then, he told me they were half price, but charged me full price! I didn't say anything. I most likely won't go back to this store. The world is a harsh, icky place! At least I have memories of my kind and loving parents to get me through.

Like any thrift store, you may not find what you're looking for, but you might find what you're not. I've been staying in Sister Bay every summer for years, and I never knew there was a bargain store so close to Main Street! The walk from my hotel took only minutes. I went looking for men's clothes - what they had looked like it came off a dead body - but I found an area rug that was just perfect for my apartment. I recognize that the reviews on here are mixed, but I had a positive experience. I think it's worth checking out, for better or for worse, if you like bargain shopping.

We had an amazing experience at Bargains Unlimited today! The managers Kristine and Sharon were so kind and incredibly helpful. Huge selection and very reasonable prices. Can’t wait to go back!

If I could give this sad excuse for a "thrift store" a 0 star rating, I would. I have consistently visited this business at least once per year for almost a decade and the prices just get worse and worse every year. I worked at a Goodwill for over a year and I am well aware of how to properly price items. If you think Goodwill drives a hard bargain, this place is even worse. Bargains unlimited? More like Bargains Limited.

Great spot. You can always find something at reasonable prices. Every time we come up to DC we head there.

Larger store, mostly well organized. Clothes were decently priced because they were half off but almost everything else was quite high compared to thrift stores back home in the Madison area.

Found a few good items for reasonable prices. It was well organized and had good prices for the Door County area. I stopped in a few other secondhand stores but the others were all far too expensive.

Don't waste your time if you don't want to wear a mask. They should have put that on their advertisement flyer to avoid the stop. Another couple also left as soon as they saw the sign as well so they are losing customers due to their policy.

Bargains Unlimited is set up really well. I would have liked to buy much more than I was able to afford! They don't take credit cards, but they have an ATM machine so you can get cash to pay for your purchases.

I really enjoyed my stop to shop here. It's a classic thrift store, the kind that you don't see much of anymore. It's cash only, which I imagine keeps costs lower without having to pay the fees incurred with processing card payments. It was clean, well organized.

Horrible staff and customer service. Went to buy a watch and they only accept cash (tax evasion anyone???). Placed the watch on the shelf as instructed by the lady working there while my wife stayed behind to shop to so I can get more cash for the watch, and during the time I was gone both staff members started yelling at my wife saying I was a thief that stole the watch. The lady there was to lazy to actually get off her chair and check if the watch was there. I guess they saw an ethnic couple and profiled due to the color of our skin. I've never been so humiliated in my life at a store as I was today for a measly $50 watch.

These are the nicest folks! I went looking for books for my new classroom library. They donated all the books I wanted. Then I went shopping for myself!

I actually go there quite often. Quality stuff that is very inexpensive. Very cool and fun people that work there-and in most cases, volunteer. The funds that are raised go to a very good cause. You must go , have fun...

I've found some amazing deals here, including a pair of tags-on Ann Taylor trousers for $1! You've got to dig around, but there are treasures to be had.

Always one of my favorite stops when I'm in Sister Bay. I've found teaspoons, soupspoons, and a knife that belong to my kitchen stainless set. Picked up a couple of CDs too. Plenty of furniture, books, and art to look through. One side of the building is all clothes.

Good place for Door Co. vacationers/renters/landlords to pick up misc household/kitchen items, decorative pieces, books/games, sporting goods, etc. Prices are OK - look for weekly color-coded half-off specials. All-in-all, worth checking out if you need to stock or furnish a vacation rental/property.

I have been going there for many years & it is for a worthy cause! I agree they are too pricy for a resale shop! The prices are frequently inconsistent in their pricing (I have seen the same item priced differently) brought to the staff's attention...they replied it is still a bargain. When I pointed out that lawn chairs were overpriced, and new ones cost $10 less retail, a staff member said then go buy retail! As a member of the community, I know the people who live in Sister Bay (the locals) frequently have to work more than one job to make ends meet & used to go to Bargains to buy the things they need & not pay retail for a used item! This was the goal of the founding fathers of Bargains Unlimited & they have lost sight of that & cater to the tourists who can afford those he th prices. The cause is to help the residents at Scandia. The residents pay to live there & it is not cheap, who gets that money!

I have been going here for years. I would always find something to buy and it was fun looking through everything. Wow, have prices gone up. I am not sure that, instead of a thrift store, they think it is a boutique. I can find some of the clothes new and on sale for the prices I saw yesterday. If folks are buying at these prices good for them. I would rather shop the sales or shop the better resale stores. The fun had gone out of shopping there this time.

Clothes good prices, and alot of large, xL sizes. Clean and organized, fitting rooms, lots of dishes, bedding, always some nice furniture. If I forget anything when I am camping, in the area ,I can always find needed items here!

I always have fun when I shop in this store. While I might not always find "the" thing I am looking for, I am certain to find something I wasn't looking for, and that is usually better than anything else. The people are friendly and helpful, and always willing to chat about the treasures that I find. We return again and again, and will continue to do so.

Love shopping at Bargains. Have to stop in frequently to see what is changed. Always finding surprises and useful items. Thanks go out to all the volunteers at Bargains. Proceeds are used to fund needs of Scandia Village.

Used to be a great place to shop, but after the management changed they became pretty overpriced. The inventory is made up of clothes, dishes, jewelry, a few pieces of furniture, some outdated exercise equipment, and random old stuff. There are occasionally interesting things, but most is junk.
