Called to ask if a product was in stock, employee said I’m to Busy to check and hung up. Nice customer service, thanks

Loved this store! For a small grocer, they do it right. Clean, well organized, well-stocked. The prices were reasonable given the current situation all grocers are facing. I travel throughout the US 8 mths a year and this is the best small town grocery I’ve been in. And they make their own sausages too! Can’t wait try the bratwurst.

Awesome that there is a full size grocery store in Winthrop. Anyone complaining about the prices or selection here needs to get a grip, this place is an awesome resource in a remote area.

Not sure how this place has 4 stars but ever since it changed from the Red Apple many years ago, this place is horrible. Check the dates on the stuff as most is expired. The worst thing is no matter how many times I have gone in here it’s the most snobby people ever. Never say Hi or thanks for shopping with them. I will be taking my business the extra mile down the road to Hanks old place. Avoid here.

Amazing small town grocery store. So many more food allergy friendly foods compared to the Tacoma area. Wish I had all these options 5 hours closer to me. Will definitely return next time I’m in town.

I love the “Thriftway” brand and I’m always pumped to find one in a new place. This Thriftway is pretty good, with a nice beer and wine section along with a decent meat counter and produce section. I will say that they are often out of stock or have very low stock for some items but maybe that’s just a product of the area being hard to get to. They also don’t have a bulk good section (unlike many other Thriftways). Would still recommend over any other grocery store in the area.

Definitely stock up elsewhere before coming on vacation to Winthrop. Your food here will get very expensive, very fast! The ready made lunch stuff is just okay and the breakfast sandwiches are decent. $10.00 for a mediocre sandwich, very easy to rack up an expensive bill. And with that, the lady at self checkout was definitely crabby towards us and it looks like other visitors on here as well.

Have never been treated so horribly at a grocery store. The rudest employees I've ever experienced. Spent a lot of money there resupplying for Pct. Do yourself a favor & go somewhere else!!

This Store is an insult to locals and trusting tourists who stop there not realizing they’re about to be ripped off! Stay on the road 12 min. and shop at Hanks where a real human owns the store!

The couple at the front was so nice and helped us out of a jam since the rim started coming down and nothing was open. Such an awesome store too with a great selection and good prices too.

Everyone in town misses the IGA that was here before Theftway moved in. The prices are geared towards tourists. You can go to the gas station store next door and get a better price on stuff. I swear, you will feel as if you've been VIOLATED when they ring you up at checkout. Honestly, make the quick drive to Hank's in Twisp for groceries. It is an excellent store, with fair prices. Their meat department is fabulous and they sell their own house made sausage that is wonderful.

This place has everything you need, but it's really expensive. $7 for a small box of cheez-its. $8 for oat milk. Even the apples from a local farm were $2 per apple. I was excited that they sold my favorite chocolate there. I can't find it anywhere near where I live so I bought several of them to take home. However, when I opened the first one it was melted and gray. I opened all the other ones to find they were also melted. None of them expired, but they were all destroyed. I would definitely suggest planning ahead and bringing your own groceries.

Very small but high quality selection. Prices are nearly double what you find in a typical grocery store. Staff are friendly if you are respectful to them. I have seen many cases of disrespectful treatment of the staff. They behave much as I would. Currently the store cannot be used safely because the mask policy is not enforced for customers and vendors. I left the store very quickly the other day after encountering and unmasked vendor stocking shelves. He appeared to be sick and had a very guilty look on his face, as if he knew that he should not come to work that day. I also noticed a customer with no mask. The staff and manager were very friendly about the issue, but they are unable to enforce the health mandates. At first they refused to provide me with curbside service, but after a little discussion, they agreed to allow me to purchase food outside the store. However, it is so difficult to do this that I ended up spending all of my money with amazon.com for food. In summary, This is a Food Boutique rather than a low priced grocery store. It is currently only safe for people that are trying to contract the covid virus.

Store manager was rude! Tried to over charge us on some alcohol. When I told her what I thought the price was, she said “I doubt it”. It was $0.50 cheaper than my price. Checker was apologetic, she was very nice!

We went here early in the morning on our vacation because we had no groceries. We happened to grab a case of beer and they would sell to us because our licenses were vertical. Not a big deal (store policy) so we went on our way. Later in the day we went back for hot dogs. The same short haired lady that wouldn’t sell us the beer was very nasty and made us feel unwelcome. When we were leaving she watched us load up our truck and sat in the window watching us taunting us. Something should be done about this. It is no way to treat guest.

I’m going to preface this review with this: in the last 9 months I have traveled over 9000 miles, through 19 states and shopped at a number of smaller, remote markets. I have never once batted an eye at the higher prices these markets charge until now. The difference is this- common professional courtesy, which was greatly lacking at Thriftway. If I say hello and smile when I approach the cashier with my cart, I expect at minimum a smile back... not a blank stare. When the cashier hands me my receipt for overpriced groceries, I expect at minimum a thank you. Just because Thriftway is the only grocery store in town does not justify rudeness on top of price gauging.

Has a decent selection, limited on produce though. Although, me and my family won’t be returning due to the mistreatment we experienced while being checked out. The checker had a foul attitude towards us and didn’t answer our questions. We would rather drive a little extra so we don’t have to come back. Overpriced as well

This is a nice store. The food was fresh . The deli food was excellent. It is a small store but they have a good selection. You are required to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines . The quality of the food was exceptional. The prices were reasonable and the staff was friendly and helpful.

Nice clean store. Employees were pleasant and helpful. A great selection of food, nice deli items and a full selection option of fresh produce. Also next door is the Ace Hardware and Chevron gas on the other side. Make this your one stop shopping area.

Very well stocked and reasonably prices grocery so far out of the big cities. The meat counter hold some quality meats and the alcohol selection rivals any big city grocery store. Loved the electronic price boards for the products.

Remodeled and a much nicer store than it used to be. Amazing they tout the new butcher, Thompsons, but the meat selection is even less than it used to be. But they have plentyof jerky! Prices have always been high, but now they seem to want customers to pay off the remodeling cost very quickly. Better store, better prices, eight miles down the road.

This place recently changed ownership and is still under some reorganization, so some patience is still necessary if stock is a little inconsistent, but even in current state this is so much better than the previous iteration as the Red Apple. Good store, friendly staff, with an excellent meats department by Thompsons' Meats!!

Memorial Day weekend so this place was pretty packed but other than that one downside (and that’s being pretty picky) we were actually quite surprised at what all they had. We figured small town market would be pretty skimpy but it had everything we were looking for in the veggies and meat departments. Beer selection was fabulous as well.

Great place to stock up on anything and everything you might need while visiting the Winthrop area. The prices were no different from those on the west side of the mountains. The stock was ample. What a convenience!

I always end up getting groceries here, because I'm too lazy to drive to Hank's-- but every time I shop here, I regret it. A week worth of food here is $150! Absolutely the most expensive IGA I've ever been to. But it's ok if you can find items on sale, and they have a good selection of beer.

For a far out of the way, in the boonies, grocery store it had an excellent selection of meat. R&R ranch steaks are the best xz in my humble opinion, and they had them! Also GF bread that was tasty. A brand I had not seen before.

It's nice to have a grocery store close to where you're camping for last minute supplies but it's frustrating that they close at 8pm every night. The prices are fair - better than you might expect in a tourist destination town and they have a good selection of staples, beer & snacks.

Fresh produce. Good selection of meat, has a butcher counter. Great choices of beer, wine and liquor. Weekly specials. Large freezer section. Friendly staff. Self check out and checker staff with grocery carry out. Convenient location. Open every day.
