I can’t believe I ever went anywhere else in Northern Virginia. This is a real scrapyard. Very easy process for steel with the drive on scale and large drop area, Super friendly, knowledgeable and generous staff at the non-ferrous scales, and competitive prices. Definitely a place where you can walk away feeling like you got a fair deal.
I'm a copier dealer and it's near impossible to find a metal processing facility to take equipment that needs recycled. Many of these places have been "abused" by office equipment dealers. But this location has "always" treated me very nicely and they run this place like a fine oiled machine. Whenever I have any metal scraps, this is the only location and organization I will use.
Incredibly staff, fine tuned organization, and for a metal scrap yard that doesn't have to be that way, it speaks in leaps and bounds about who they are....
The last 3 times I have come here it’s been in between 4:30pm and 5:00pm, most times I make it by 4:40, now that being said I have been either turned away at the way station or there is no one there to even help, One of the times the lady at the front desk informed me at 4:45 when I came she stated the guys told me to close down and not let anyone through. Although they close at 5 PM, I personally find that The employees are choosing when to stop work, (a.k.a. “the guys”) I find that unprofessional and lazy. Also I don’t mean to throw the front lady at the weight station under the bus, but this has just happened multiple times now and I would like to see a change, I work until I am required I don’t see why it should be different for any other company.
Stopped by to recycle some brass ammo shells. Service was fast and efficient, staff was professional, and the price they offered was great. I’ll definitely return in the future. Thanks!
These guys are the worst. They try to steal my copper number one for number two when I try to separate they told me to come back another day. I will never come back with them again. I didn't recommend you to come back with them too

I came in with 8 large bags of cans that filled up my SUV and was only given $22. I’m comparing this to the last trip, where there were less bags of cans and made more money.
I took the receipt without checking, thinking they wouldn’t rob me—but they did.
Please come prepared to this location with the weight and pictures. Check what they’re inputing and what the receipt says.
They’re the ones that are going to lose out with their shady business practices. If you do business here, be very careful and meticulous on your end.
What to do when you see most of this place employees are getting drunk l during work hours, and being rude and disrespectful towards you?? Who is the supervisor? No supervisor!! Shame on the owner for hiring this type of people.
I am a big fan of Potomac Metals. As a casual customer, I'll never get rich selling scrap metals, but it's nice to get some pocket change in return for a recyclable. They were buying copper for $2.80 a pound, aluminum for $0.45 a pound, and steel for $0.05 a pound.
Know roughly how much weight you are bringing. They will rip you off if you don't "double-check" them. It's too late for me. The only cardboard I had was the box for the straps holding down the metal, which I obviously brought back with me. Just believe me when I tell you that this little box weighs grams and not 460.00 lbs like my payoff ticket says. Very, very dishonest practice. They don't tell you either. Take pictures of actual weight and keep the same people inside the truck if you bring helpers to keep your actual "weight" and the recycling place people honest. I'm mad, and there is obviously no recourse. It is not like they have customer service. So just beware. There is no money in recycling, burned half the money in fuel alone to bring the metal here.
My first time going to this scrap yard cleaning out a storage unit locally. Was greeting by Mario he and everyone else was awesome. Mario was knowledgeable and patient. Special shout out to Mario thank you again!
I was immediately greeted by Mario J. He was incredibly helpful, polite, and made sure I drove to the correct spot to unload. Mario unload a large metal filing cabinet out of my car for me. This is a great facility and even better staff!
Ripped off! We had 40 pounds of aluminum, 20 pounds of copper, 19 compressors, 30 stainless steel fridges, 10 stainless dishwasher, 8 stainless steel microwaves and a bunch of other metals. They only weighed the truck and we walked out with $300.
They pay you for your discarded metal by weight. They efficiently weigh your stuff on a huge scale and pay in cash on the spot. Take Virginia ID. No need to pick the plastic parts out. And they are even nice.
They make it very easy to recycle metals. You pull your vehicle in, they wheel out a bin, you dump your metal into the bin. They weigh the bin, and you get cash. I don't care a whole lot about the cash, I just like to see materials being recycled. We need to leave materials for future generations and this is how we can do it. Finding the place was a little dicey, otherwise, a great experience! The employees were all wearing masks too, very important these days.
It was my first time going and it was a good experience. The person i talk to over the phone was able to give me a good rate for my audio and visual cable and i got paid well for what i had. They have the best rates in the area.
Great customer service! I was recycling 70 lbs of copper gutters from my home remodel. I called and the employee was very helpful and explained how the recylcing process worked and what the rate was (best $$$ I found in the the area). I showed up, weighed my vehicle, they unloaded metal and I quickly received my cash and was on my way! Great experience! I will be back!
If your not Spanish watch out the amigos trying to get over on you with the tare weight on their carts. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT USE THEIR. CARTS TO WEIGH OUT YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!! Just an fyi my Americans

When I arrived to your company with some computers and a safe, all three employees were watching videos on their phones with music playing so loud that it was hard to communicate. The young one (Latino male) was nice and asked me to pull over close to the entrance. Then I put all the computers in a cart by myself (around 32). This wasn’t a problem.
The main problem came when I explained that I had a metal safe in the van. The one wearing an orange vest (Latino male as well) reluctantly came with me to the van. I got inside to pull the safe back away from the door and asked him to please open the door so he could look at the safe. He looked at me and did nothing. I asked him twice, and then he opened it with anger. He inspected the safe was said that it was good for them to take it.
I asked him for help getting it off the van because I have a shoulder injury and he replied to me in Spanish in the most angry, arrogant, and disrespectful way, “do it yourself!”. I pleaded with him that I have a shoulder injury and he said in the most arrogant and disrespectful way, “I don’t care, that’s not my problem”.
On my way to pick up the ticket & the money, I turned around he was speaking to the younger guy while gesturing towards me.
This was my first experience with your company and it was incredibly disappointing. It is not clear to me whether there’s a company policy that prevents them from helping customers from unloading the metal or not. His customer service was not to explain this, it was to be very rude and hostile.

First of all, this staff is the most efficient and hard working group of people I’ve probabky ever seen. They get everybody in and out as quick as possible, and they weigh, take info, and give you your pay out faster than any other metal recycling shop. They exact all sortable of metal and even paid me $15 for 4 brake rotors. They keep your information secure in their system, and for the security of other take down your drivers license info, as well as the make, color, and license plate # of your car. The experience was amazing and the pay out for my scrap metal and batteries was even better. I HIGHLY recommend this place. Huge thank you to the friendly staff as well!
Their price for scrap steel tends to be a little lower than other places around the area. The prices for the other metals and wires are about the same as the competition. I like how quickly they dispatch customers because they are very organized. Typically there is no line and if there is, at most is a 15-20 minute wait. I been to another place with a much larger space and more equipment and they have taken 1 hour or more to dispatch me. I highly recommend this place.
This place is super efficient in getting you in and out. It my brother’s go to place for selling all scrap metal. They are open on Saturday’s until 1pm which is really convenient.
Who would think recycling scrap metal could such a pleasant experience. The staff was helpful and friendly and the process though a bit involved was relatively easy and efficient. Although I spent more time than it probably was worth for the small amount of money I got I would certainly do it again. Next time I'll try to bring more copper.
Stay away from this place if you plan on taking a TV or a computer monitor....I was informed by a very large man that I was being a JERK for basically saying I wasn't going to pay them to take my TV and Monitor (around $20 dollars each) Just take it to Best Buy...they take TV's and monitors..FOR FREE..DONT PAY these guys who are rude about things...Just Sayin...and PS BIG BOY...message heard LOUD AND CLEAR...Will steer people away from you business until you FIRED!
My first time there, it was very prompt service. Just get your metal weighed in. Next they give you a ticket and you scan it and voila $$$$$. No id, but I think they take your tags.
This place is great. I had some old copper pipe, some aluminum wire and two old patio chairs. You drive right in, the person there (in my case Jose), asks if you have been there before and explains the process. He helps you unload and starts putting the various types of metal on scales. Based on the weight he tallys it up and hands you the cash. I tought I was going to walk out with enough for lunch and I ended up with much more than I expected. This place makes it easy for alll types of clients (pros and the harry homeowner alike). I was very impressed. Thanks
