What clients say about Rod's Towing & Repair in Putney Township (VT)

Absolutely horrible experience with Rod’s Towing. They were extremely rude, unprofessional, and treated me with zero respect. Instead of helping, they made the situation worse with their attitude and lack of professionalism. I would never use them again and would not recommend them to anyone.

Tried leaving my mom on the side of the road after giving her a hard time about towing her car. Terrible service and terrible attitudes. Save yourself the trouble and go with a different towing company

Great staff, great service, and great communication! Plus it's always nice to work with a family-owned business.

Horrible customer service. Was completely rude when i asked questions. Would never recommend to anyone.

I paid over $4,000.00 to have them work on my Volkswagen. I had a “EPC” light that continuously flashed on my vehicle. It caused the vehicle to burn oil at a higher rate and loss of acceleration and overall horsepower. Rods had my vehicle for two weeks. Now I sit here a little over a month later after driving just 3,000 miles with essentially no oil in my vehicle even though it’s not due for an oil change for more than 4,000 miles and the EPC light showing again. It’s in worse condition now than before. They claimed they changed the throttle body and tubing that goes in and out of it. I’ve never left a review for any company before but as I sit here stranded in the middle of nowhere frustrated by over $4,000.00 worth of repairs and a car that doesn’t run I feel compelled to share my family’s frustration. It’ll be a sad holiday in this household.

For your vehicle's sake and your financial well-being, consider alternative service providers. This company has a history of billing for unperformed services, such as filter and spark plug replacements, and their maintenance work falls short despite expensive rates.

Would maybe use again for a tow, but I wouldn’t let them work on my vehicle again. Had to pay for another tow to a different shop after they couldn’t figure out the issue. I ended up with a big bill and more problems with the vehicle than when it came in. Nothing was fixed. I even asked the guy in charge beforehand if they knew how to work on old Jeeps and if he was comfortable taking a look at it and he assured me they were up to the task and said “oh yeah these guys all drive old stuff, they know how to work on them”. Perhaps it’s a fine place to have oil changed or get tires rotated, but I would absolutely not recommend them for any type of mechanical diagnosis or repair work.

Rods to the rescue. Such a lovely buisness. The staff is always so kind and polite. We will definitely be using them again when needed. Thank you Rods for all you do.

We got stranded around exit 4 off 91 South in Putney, Vt. Donny was the greatest tow truck driver ever. He had been going straight out all day! Pleasant, friendly and engaging. Drove us and the car all the way back to Enfield, Ct on Monday. We hope he had a good drive back!

I paid over $300 for a door handle so my car could pass inspection. With labor it was over $500; close to $600 actually. Within a few days part of it fell off & we had to gorilla glue it back on. It just came off and now looks terrible. They seem to charge more for everything there and the work they do is not high quality. Friendlyish to your face. Take way too much money for inferior products and work. Wouldn’t not recommend to any working class people or anyone that values their cars and money.

Having heard good things about Rods over the years, I finally got to experience myself. My car snapped an axle in Brattleboro and had to be towed 45 minutes north home. After calling 2 other companies that said they were too busy I called Rods. The Woman who answered was polite and straightforward and gave me a reasonable price upfront. She said they would be there in an hour and like clockwork on a snowy cold and windy night their flatbed was hooking me up exactly 1 hour later. The driver was courteous, polite, safe and very efficient loading, driving and unloading my car. So hats off to Rods for saving the day and for operating a first class business. Highly recommend.

I was involved in a car crash at 8pm on a nearby highway. Within 20 minutes of calling Rods (on a holiday weekend) we had a tow truck winching the car out of the ditch. Fair price and fast, professional service. Thank you Rods!

I couldn’t be any more satisfied than ever. Just when I thought I was losing hope about not getting my driving skills back in life when I got recommended by folks I know that rod’s was the place to give a try and call during my weekend days. Reasonable schedule and the fair prices to be desperate of getting my car back after explaining the details of what happened, I was met with my expectations as a first time customer with friendly staff. Thank you rod’s and I’d definitely will come again if needed for to fix my vehicle in the future.

Yesterday they came and towed my daughter's vehicle for her. The female tow truck driver was incredibly efficient, friendly and professional. Would truly always call them moving forward. There was no going back and forth. The vehicle was towed. Job done. No delay no excuses. loved it!!!!

I got a flat on I-91 and was able to limp to Rod's on the baby spare. Even though they were very busy, Rod's quickly checked it out, firmed up my spare and sent me to buy a new tire. And they didn't charge me a nickel! Great service.

I encountered major transmission issues just north of Brattleboro. I limped up to the Putney exit and found Rod’s just off the exit ramp. I was very lucky to happen upon their shop. Not only did they have the expertise to get a complicated job done, they got me back on the road within 4 hours. Highly recommended! Thank you to Greg and your team.

I paid $1,100 for a new oil pressure rocker switch and transmission in line leak repair. 70 days later I’m having to get both things done again. Very nice people but unfortunately my experience was that they did not fix my cars actual problem and I’m having to pay someone else to do the work again. Plus, the parts they used do not look new.

Update: So after communication with the service technician, he agreed to refund the price of the light bulb. Today I went in to get the refund and upon showing them the damaged bulb...it became a very unpleasant issue from that point on. In December I took our Honda there to get our winter studs installed. I asked them to also replace a headlight. The very next day that same headlight went out again. I took it to a different garage and had to pay $75 to get it fixed! As it turns out the mechanic at Rod's did not know that you were not supposed to touch the bulb!!!! The bulb was FRIED! Their response to me was that they would reimburse us for the bulb only! 😞

Great experience overall with Rod's. They are communicative, professional and all around great folks and trustworthy mechanics. Would not hesitate to bring our car back here for repairs in the future.

Our daughter’s car broke down on 91 last Sunday. Rod’s gave her a ride to Brattleboro, and took the car to their shop in Putney. They were very kind and did a great set of repairs for a good price. We are grateful and highly recommend their friendly, professional and expert service.

This company is very unprofessional and unreliable. I came to inquire about a price of a diagnostic and they told me I had to pay $120 to diagnose me with a diagnostic. The entire family proceeded to escalate the situation by arguing with me when I simply was inquiring about the price. They kept my car there for two days without so much as calling me and hardly did any work to let me know what it was I needed. I ended up paying as I didn't want the situation to escalate any further but left with little to no answers. I have the feeling they don't treat most customers like this and if I were white and a man, my simple inquiry would've been met with a nicer attitude. I believe I was discriminated against while simply wanting more details which at the time, they cared not to explain. They should treat their customers better or at least equally. I've filed a formal complaint to the Better Business Bureau, maybe don't shop here if you're a minority. Edit: I’m glad they treat their employees of color nicely (allegedly), maybe they should do the same for their customers. 1/10. Again, very unprofessional to ask employees to leave good reviews for you— regardless how long their hair may be (what a silly comment!)

Family run and top quality service. Has done major brake work on my old Volvo, oil change on my newer Chevy, and all snow tire changes, and all of that work was done very well. Easy to make appointments and always a fast turn around. Feels fair and local.

Outstanding service here! I had stripped and sheared off license plate bolts so they had to drill a couple adjacent and I swear I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. Simple task with the right tools but the good attitude and willingness to help out surprised me, the other place I tried was Stop n Go and ironically, they require an appointment for 5 mins. of work so turned me away. They don't mess around here at Rod's, every single person I saw was busier than a termite in a sawmill and the place was packed full on a Friday afternoon. Just based on principle and gut feeling this is a shop worth supporting, will be coming back for all my auto-repair needs in the future.

This family-run garage provides competent, cheerful, and fairly-priced service. They re-balanced my new tires, which had been incorrectly installed by another garage...from shuddering at highway speeds, my Impreza just floated back home after Rod's mechanics fixed it. Great! Thanks!

I had recently bought a 2004 Ford Ranger from a friend, it had a subtle skip in one of the cylinders. His mechanic in North Carolina couldn’t figure out the issue, but I took it to Greg at Rod’s and after some trial and error he finally got it. I was ready to wave the white flag but with persistence the problem was solved. He was generous on labor. Highly recommended, always pleasant, and easy to work with. They event fixed a flat for a friend of mine right before closing without complaint.

The folks at Rod's Towing & Repair saved us today. On the way to a vacation in New Hampshire our engine light, and battery light came on. We got off the closest exit, and pulled into Rod's. They were very busy, but after hearing our story got us in immediately. They fixed everything, and we were on the road again. We were so amazed at how great they were. They really saved our day, and vacation.

Always polite. Always speedy. NOT just out to make a quick buck. They do their best to provide excellent quality for your $$. I have been going to them for about 6 months. Every repair has either been below their estimate, or has included extras at no cost. Very happy with their service and will continue to go there for as long as I live in the area. I have never had to wait more than a few days from the day I call to the day it is serviced, no matter the size of the repair. If I call on a Friday to schedule, I have an appointment on the following Monday or Tuesday to have it in the shop. They do everything they can to not only do the work as efficiently and cost effectively for you as they can. I have recommended this place to others I know, with total confidence that they will be treated in the same manner I have been!
