We planned a bike tour of Zion and the greater St. George area for October this year. As we were making plans we came across The Vine Yard winery and made reservations with Roberto. We try to find local wineries wherever we travel but knowing nothing about Utah wines we relied on the online reviews of others. It turned out to be the most memorable part of our vacation. Roberto is not only an expert wine maker but also a most excellent host. We entered and were seated at a dining room table covered in meats and cheeses with bread and crackers (I could write paragraphs on the quality and types of food but that would rob you of having the emotion we had when we walking into the room and sat down). Roberto served wine at a leisurely pace, taking time to explain about everything about the wine: soil, climate, water, harvest, yeasts… and answered our questions. The wines, all of them, were excellent and beyond any of our expectations. Roberto truly loves his craft and it shows as he shares his wine with others. If you love wine and love experiencing wines with someone who really loves wine then please make a reservation and visit Roberto. Our many thanks to him for the most memorable wine tasting experience any of us has ever had (and that includes many, many tastings in; California, Washington, Texas, New Mexico, Germany and Italy). Wine in Utah? Who knew? I work for a winery in Woodinville, WA. While visiting family in Hurricane my brother shared an article about the Utah Wine Trail. The varietals at The Vine Yard definitely peaked my interest so called for an appt. We were able to get in the following day. What a unique experience! Roberto hosts these very personal tastings in his home, accompanied by a huge tapas spread and homemade borscht! He shared the story of his hand planted vineyard, the sweet meaning of Cheers-Tin, and blended a GSM in our glasses. We ended with a tour of the vineyard and wine marking process. Highly recommend!

Wow, just wow. This was like art you could taste...the wines... the cheeses... the cured meats...the bread...the borsch....in a lovely, intimate setting.....AMAZING. Roberto was the host of hosts, a kind man with an interesting story, answers to my redundant questions and a great sense of humor. Ok, back to the wine, you can taste the passion that goes into his craft... well balanced and delicious! (The first time I've truly enjoyed a tempranillo and shiraz!) The red zin was just delectable! The entire process, start to finish takes place right on his property. Who knew a quality of wine this high could be created in Utah?! I can't wait to return! *Call ahead to make an appt. this was the most amazing experience I’ve ever had with a wine tasting. Roberto was such a great host and completely opened up with his heart and soul the passion he has for the wine that he makes. This was the best wine tasting experience I have ever had. Roberto prepared a beautiful and filling table of food/appetizers for our group and then proceeded to tell incredible stories of the many wines made there right on site. He welcomes you into his home and heart with kindness. The wines are absolutely wonderful, and the enjoyable conversation in such a magnificent place is priceless. This is a must-do when visiting the Vegas or Zion areas!

I have done a lot of tastings but this was the best I have been to. Not only was the wine amazing but the food was spectacular. And the stories and explanations by the power were heartfelt and made tou feel like you were at home. I recommend this to not only winos. But to any one wanting to try how unique and amzing Utah wine can can be.

We had a wonderful tasting experience that included all of the wines in Roberto's portfolio. We also got to to you a variety of cheeses and imported cured meat. Gave us a chance to determine what went best with which white wines and cured meats went together with the wines. We basically are red wine drinkers and that's what we got. Thanks, Roberto.

We were on vacation and decided to visit a vineyard .We were very lucky Mr.Alvarez worked us in.He taught us so much about wines and wine tasting. He welcomed us into his home and served tapas and the best stew.We don't care for red wines but his were very good. We bought 2 bottles of wine to bring home with us.Thank you for making our vacation extra special.

Here’s the short version of my review…..If you find yourself anywhere in southern Utah, call Roberto and make a reservation for a wine tasting. I promise you that you will not be disappointed! For those looking for more details, read on! My wife and I have done many wine tastings around the US and abroad. None of them compare with what Roberto provides. The main reason you do a wine tasting (obviously!) is for the wine. Roberto’s wines are on par with anything you will find. Across the board, every wine we tasted was fantastic! And the tapas were delicious, as well. What really set this experience apart was Roberto’s personality and passion for his craft. He is a pleasure to sit and chat with (which we did for a few hours!) His insights and stories were very informative and entertaining. After a few minutes you’ll feel as though you are sharing wine with an old friend. Thank you, Roberto, for a marvelous afternoon!

One of the best wine tasting experience we’ve ever had. We were running late coming from Zion, called the winery to see if we could still make it and Roberto said “No problem. I’ll wait for you”. He welcomed us to his wonderful home and placed at his dining table. It felt like we were at a family dinner. Roberto served us some crazy good appetizers, home made stew and, of course, his extraordinary wines each accompanied by a wonderful story. Not every day, if ever, a wine maker himself pours you a glass and shares some of his secrets. Every wine had a distinctive character. All were smooth, yet powerful. Top notch. Outstanding wine, outstanding tapas, and an outstanding host! This was the capstone of our holiday trip and it was fantastic. Roberto is truly a treasure and an artisan. Everyone in our grouped loved our visit and tour. I cannot recommend this wine tasting experience highly enough!

I was pleasantly surprised at this unique wine tasting experience at The Vine Yard. The owner, Roberto was very gracious and welcoming. He is fascinating to talk to, and obviously is a master at his craft because we all agreed the wine was superior to most that we have had. He’s a great host, preparing the food himself, which is many steps above your average charcuterie board. He will make his own soups and stews and orders many ingredients, meats, cheeses, and other things directly from Spain. His wines are based on Spanish grapes, which are grown in his own vineyard. He is easy to converse with and is an expert at the art of wine making. We felt very relaxed and had a lot of laughs. He has a wealth of knowledge that is fascinating to listen to. Not having had a lot of experience with Spanish wines, I was surprised how much better they are than most of the others I have had. My friends and I all agreed it was by far the best most unique wine tasting we have been to. Highly recommended.

This is by fare the best wine I have ever had. Also, Roberto’s tapas that he serves with his tastings were a full meal like I was at a first class restaurant. His company was a complete joy.

It was such a pleasure stopping in here and meeting the owner Roberto on our way back from Bryce to our hotel in Vegas. His passion for his wine made it easy to get excited about sampling and learning his large variety of skillfully crafted products. There was not one wine we tasted that we did not appreciate it was hard to pick one to take with us because they were all so good. The generous variety of tapas made it so much fun to try different meats cheeses and figs combining flavors with his wine. Roberto’s wines I can honestly say are the best I have had and his hospitality made this visit the highlight of our trip.

Roberto is a master winemaker who, by appointment, invites you into his home to have incredible tapas and charcuterie to pair with his amazing wines! The wines are incredibly priced especially for their quality! Roberto's wines stand out in this up-and-coming wine region... Each wine we tasted was amazing! I hope our paths cross again! We had the best time at this small winery. The wine was awesome, shocking that you can find wine this good in Utah. All of our expectations were blown away. Roberto (the owner) has won multiple awards for his wine and truly loves making wine and hosting guests. Each wine we tried was better than the last and the best part was that food was included with the tasting. Great cheese and meats and some other good surprises he made himself while we were there. We had a blast, I don’t write a lot of reviews, but this experience was so good that I had to get the word out. Just make sure you call before you go so he can prepare. You’ll be happy you go here!
