Selfishly I don’t want to share how amazing this shop is because in the last two years since I discovered them, they’ve become incredibly busy! Truthfully, I cannot say enough good things about cottonwood garage. Being a single female and walking into a shop can be a daunting experience, but no fear, these guys are super trustworthy and honest. I never feel they’re going to upsell me on ANYTHING I don’t absolutely need. In fact, I’ve come in asking for specific services and even though they COULD perform them just because I asked, they’re honest with me if I don’t need it/can wait it out a bit longer. The staff is overall incredibly helpful and friendly. I’ll add that I was having a rough morning but getting to chat with the staff while I waited for my car really helped turn my day around. They don’t even know how down I had been before I walked through their door. Kudos to Cottonwood Garage for keeping the small shop mentality alive in a challenging economy where impersonal big businesses are taking over.

Scott, Amy, JC, Lance & the shop crew are so kind and work very hard to help keep our fleet on the road. They've worked on many a mystery, fixes, & regular maintenance for our team. 👍🏻 great people indeed!

They absolutely did not help if I couldn’t read this place. I would probably rete it a -10, but honestly they stole from me I took my truck for a supposedly a free diagnostic thinking that they were gonna help me out. Try to tell me it was gonna be an initial $1500 after they tried multiple things. They said it was going to cost me 2400 paid the $2400 only for the day after I picked it up the truck to have the same initial problem with it shutting up still cannot tell me what was the cause of it instead told me that it was gonna take another $2200 to fix the part and maybe MAYBE that would help all in all with trucks like this or vehicles like this is the best thing to do is fix a bunch of things and maybe one of those things will actually work. I didn’t know it was a guessing game. I figured that they were professionals. Unfortunately, I learned my lesson and never again well I trust people like them talk about fake to make it for sure. Please be careful sometimes even when they look like they know what they’re doing they’re just guessing unfortunately the guessing game cost me $2400 only to take it to Jeep and be told it would be an initial $1600 had I took it to them in the first place I would not be out 4000. you guys suck thanks for nothing

Cottonwood Garage is the best mechanic we've ever had. Scott Johnson, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable, honest, trustworthy, and fair. We've had multiple exemplary experiences here and will continue to take our car here for any fixes and maintenance. They are wonderful to work with and do their best to get our car in and out quickly. They are very communicative about what they find that needs repair, explanations, price estimates, etc. They also offer rides home from the garage after you bring your car in, which is so helpful. I recommend Scott to everyone.

Can't say enough good. The first time I brought my car in, I was in a super huge time crunch and they went above and beyond to get my alternator replaced. My hood was stuck and they didn't charge me for the hour (at least) it took to help me get it open and deal with my latch issue. They have never tried to talk me into unnecessary work or extra charges etc. Super personable staff and trustworthy.

This shop is special. It is currently being managed by a technician named Scott. If Scott tells you something about your vehicle it is valad. Here is the take away. You will have the correct repair done in the correct amount of time if you choose this shop.

Thank you Frankie and Jess podcast! Because of them I have found the warmest, most honest, wonderful place to take my vehicle to. Scott and Amy easily turned my awful situation from a previous mechanic into an amazing experience . I will now confidently recommend Cottonwood Garage to everyone . And yes Jess, I have to drive across town from West Valley too, it’s totally worth it!

Great experience here! They were very helpful and honest. The owner even explained why we may not need certain services, and when to get them. I really appreciated how they tried to account for labor so there were no surprise costs that you see with most other companies. They also did a high quality job at a much more affordable price. They were very patient with all my questions and made sure I was updated throughout the process.

Incredibly ran honest shop. Great people working here who are efficient and trustworthy. We had a $500 job we could do and the mechanic said hold off because the hvac dial works with alittle hassle now and wait for it to really break before you drop the money you may get 3-5 more years from it. Also the part is incredibly backordered right now. You can trust this shop.

So happy to find Scott again! He has worked on my cars for twenty years at Big O and I am thrilled that he has his own shop now! I recommend him without reservation and he will give you the straight story. Totally trusted mechanic!

I took my car here because I had heard from the Frankie and Jess podcast they are someone they trust. I was not disappointed. I had something that was an easy fix for them and they just did it. Nicest people. Amy and Scott were truly so helpful. I will definitely be taking my car here from now on.

I rarely do this, but this place is worth it ! Amy and Scott made time for me at the last minute, as I was leaving for a road trip. They were exceptionally kind and helpful! Another mechanic had told me I needed to replace parts of the control arm I got completely replaced last year to do my alignment ($1,400). Scott was able to look at it, fix my alignment, explain to me how everything worked, and reassure me that these parts looked brand new. He did it all out of kindness and did not charge me for the time he spent on it. Exceptional people, cannot recommend going to them enough!

Honestly, this was the best mechanic shop I’ve ever been to. Not only were the guys super honest, Scott and the boys were super nice to my kids and tried to find something for them to do while they did an emergency brake job on my wife’s car… not to mention it only took them like 45 minutes. I typically do my own work, but I’m tempted to use these guys because of the speed/honesty/quality. Definitely going back.

I can't say enough good things about Scott and my experience here. He diagnosed and fixed my car quickly and efficiently. I'm overjoyed to have found a mechanic I can trust and talk to. He's patient, transparent, and kind. Full story: My car's engine began misfiring two days ago. I brought it into Big O because I've been using them for ten years, and it was a complete disaster of an experience (sat there multiple hours over two days, crazy expensive fee for "diagnostic" and then they quoted me an extremely high price to "maybe" fix it). I called Scott yesterday morning and it was like night and day. He took the time to talk me through options over the phone, I brought him the car, he kept me posted about the progress and fixed my car, giving advice and tips along the way on how I can maintain the engine. He knows his stuff! The issue wound up being a coil and replacing the spark plugs. I'm incredibly thankful for his honest service and diligent work.

We’ve been taking all our cars to the Cottonwood Garage for years. Each time I leave a car, I feel like it’s in the best care. The owner Scott, and his employees are great to explain things to me and make sure I know what the plan is. The pricing is amazing and the service is even better! Can I give more than 5 stars??

Scott, the new owner, is awesome. He fixed my mom's car better than anyone has done before. He is honest and professional. He explained what needed to be done in terms we could understand and knew exactly what was wrong with the ca. The cost was great.

Scott and his team are so easy to work with and they provide great service and communication. Furthermore they provide options for how to go about your repair and if there are ways to save cost. It feels really good to have an honest and reliable auto shop in the neighborhood.

The new owner, Scott Johnson, is a great mechanic! He had helped me for years with various issues that he has always diagnosed properly. Recently, I stopped in with a battery light on, and even though he was very busy, he took the time to install a new alternator, so I would not get stuck somewhere. Plus, his pricing is very competitive!

New owner Scott was very honest and direct. Came in a with blown head gasket on a big road trip and gave me his honest opinion about what I should do. Didn't try to rip me off or get me to spend an exorbitant amount of money trying to repair it. Knowing how much I'd already sunk into repairs, didn't even charge me for the diagnostic work he spent all day doing. Very generous, highly recommend for any slc locals.

Scott was amazing. He took in my car and diagnosed the issue same day. He also laid out all possible service options for me so i could make the best decision for my situation. I feel like most auto shop managers try to upswell you and I didn’t feel that way at all at cottonwood garage.

I have been going to Scott Johnson, owner of Cottonwood Garage, exclusively for my car repairs (and advice) for more than 20 years. I cannot begin to express my appreciation for his honesty and integrity. These days, a simple oil change can turn into 20 parts and services that you feel forced by fear into agreeing to, but not with Scott. As a single mom with a limited income, I need someone trustworthy who will fix what's broken, tell me what I need to be mindful of, and give me the confidence that I'm doing what's needed to maintain my car without going overboard. Scott has many times passed over opportunities to bring home a bigger paycheck at the expense of others. His character won't allow for that. Scott cares about taking care of you and your car, it's as simple as that. That's the way is should be everywhere. I'm so thrilled he is the new owner of this establishment so he can help even more people. Fair labor at a fair price.
