We were here for only one night as we were just traveling through. Great stopover and some of the sites are pull through making it perfect for the night as we didn't need to unhook. Very peaceful and very dark skies. The bathrooms were heated, clean and the water pressure good. Unlimited hot water. We didn't get to hike the 2 trails, but it looks very scenic. The staff are great and helpful. If you're a Veteran, be sure to get the Parklands Passport for free. Texas really appreciates Veterans.

Nice and quiet place. Lots of wild life to see large areas to explore. The facilities where not kept up very well. The bathrooms and showers needed up grades but all in all nice place.

A beautiful state park which feels like it’s in the middle of no where. We had a very nice Pull through spot. Just passing through on our way out west. Third time we have been here and we will definitely return.

Totally loved the cacti. Mid-November was almost empty so it was very quiet....perfect place to grab a night's sleep.

Traveling to the barren flat land that is west Texas, It may seem that the artistic hand of God was suddenly distracted and hopped over to Colorado. Nesetked in these flat lands - - some 11 mikes offf the main hwy - Is a camping oasis known as Lake Colorado City State Park. The park was empty except one other camper causing a welcomed quote to settle up on me as I gazed out the window towards the lake that was fronted by cactus and other sharp leaves desert plants. The day Rea is well thought out with family areas spaced adequately to provide for some privacy. Individual family areas are equipped with a covered picnic table and BBQ cast iron BBQ grill. There is a spacious boat ramp and parking lot, and a kyack launching area. Keep your food in the car until your ready to eat because the Bees will swarm it and you. Quaint Small cabins lined the beach front and are most likely rented by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Wildlife includes assorted birds rabbits, Armedilla road runners all of which are not aFraid of humans. I've never seen a road runner stand still on the road before. Food should be secured in your vehicle after dinner to avoid the wild rabbits or other wildlife from eating it.

No shade for campers only picnic tables. Lots of monarchs and prickly pear cactus. Plaque to old Comache War Trail.

My husband and I are avid campers in our teardrop camper. We often stay at National and State parks. We stayed at this park Friday August 22. We knew we would be a late arrival after 930pm and started calling the park early Friday around noon. We called until 430pm then tried the after hours number. There was no answer at either number. We arrived and followed the map to our site that was provided on the website. Set up was quick and easy. We headed over to the showers, there was no outside lights around the restroom. It was completely dark walking up to the building. I would expect a motion detector light at least, A motion light would at least turn on the porch area when we walk up. The restroom needs major attention. There was mud dauber nest in the corners of the restroom in several places. The restroom stall have a large hole between the stalls that prevents privacy. The restroom was stocked with soap and the water was hot for the shower. Our site was nice and the park was quiet. We have stayed at many Texas State parks and this was not what we expected.

Nice overnight stop on our way going west. Park was quiet with few campers. Bathrooms were clean & satisfactory. We saw lots of rabbits running around. Enjoyed this stop.

We only stayed one night, since we were travelling on our way to Utah. But, we had a blast in this beautiful park with very clean restrooms. The amount of birds was amazing!! And the hiking trails are a lot of fun.

This was the cleanest park I have ever been to. The bathrooms, the cabins, the roads and everything in between. The wildlife (which there is a TON of) comes right up to you almost, and the views are amazing. You get decent phone service, the cabins have good air conditioners, microwave and mini fridge, and is just a very nice size for the whole family- again, VERY clean. The Rangers were so kind, and checked up on things all the time. All together I have nothing even slightly negative to say- this place is gorgeous and perfect. My whole family- dog and all- had the best time!

I stopped here to stretch my legs on my way back to DFW. Not far off I-20. I hiked on the trails and they are pretty cool. There is a loop through a bunch of cactus which line a lot of the trail. Then there is an out and back trail along the edge of the water. Not the most scenic place with power infrastructure nearby but as far the trails go, I'd recommend a short stop.

Great walks (not long enough to call a hike) and kayaking. Fair biking (no dedicated trails). Really nice, well spaced sites. Restrooms nice but not accessible.

A very quaint park. Not much really to do here other than relax and take in the outdoors. Not very many or long hiking trails but still worth the walk through the park. I have camped here two other times and it is very quiet so if you like solitude it's great. The park staff is very friendly and willing to help, I do want to thank them for finding one of my bags that had blown away while I was gone.

Nice park with 2 hiking trails. The trails were relatively easy with some rock scrambles. The showers were hot and very outdated. Very tiny showers. No handicap shower and the ones available couldn’t put a wheelchair in it. If you have mobility issues these showers are not for you.

Nice campground with for any size camper. There are lots of nice pull thru sites. Water and electricity only with a dump station nearby. Too bad this park is one of the lowest attended state parks in Texas.

Nice, quiet, clean, well maintained park. Unremarkable north/west Texas scenery. Wouldn't go a long way just to come here but if it's between your point A and point B it's a nice place to break up a long road trip.

It’s a very nice park that has 2 good trails! Lots of wildlife and plants to see and it’s a great place to get your miles in! The trails are marked pretty well and give a pretty decent challenge in some spots! The bathrooms could definitely be updated but it’s still a great park!

Located a few miles south of the I20, Lake Colorado City State Park is a good place to swim. People usually say that lake water is not clear, but that is true of any lake. So set your expectation and you will enjoy it. We were able to get campsites right on the water and that made a difference for us because we swam at every opportunity we got. We interacted with the rangers because we were able to perform a service project here. Our crew of 8 young men and 5 adults were able to repaint one of the larger pavilions after sanding and stripping the paint. It took us an hour and a half to complete the task. Our young men enjoyed the service provided and the rangers were very appreciative of our efforts. There were working restrooms and showers so that was great. There were dumpsters located in the campgrounds so we didn't have to pack out our trash.

Decent enough park, but nothing special IMHO. We had a whole peninsula to ourselves, in site 100 right on the water. Wind was too much to get on the water, so we rode our bikes around a bit. Honestly, decent place, but I don't see myself going back.

We loved our two night stay here. Big rig friendly. Nice hiking trails. Peace and quiet. No trains or highways. Just no sewage hookups but dumping station wasn’t busy. Highly recommend this state park for $20 night rv camping or for a day time hike. See our video on YouTube, search for freedom champagne

A great park with some decent hiking trails, and absolutely gorgeous as an outsider to the state. However, the fact I have to pay to enter just doesn't sit right with me, as my state has free public parks and trails. All the same, I would highly recommend the area and going on the trails!

We did not know this park was in Texas. We enjoyed our stay very much! Because it is a Texas State Park, we did not have to have a Texas fishing license. I enjoyed fishing, even if I didn't catch anything. The bathrooms were very clean. The park was well kept. Can wait to go again.

It was a beautiful stopping place as we travelled across Texas. It is close to the highway but far enough to be quiet. As it was January, there were only a few sites being used so reservations were not needed. We chose a loop with power and water. The temperature was below freezing one night and the water tap and our hose were frozen in the morning. We should have turned off the tap and drained our hose at night. The first site we tried had quite a slope from front to back and we had trouble getting our 5 th wheel off the truck. We moved to a pull through site but needed to raise one side quite alot on the paved surface. A dump station was available as well. The bathrooms were sparkling clean and heated. The shower had lots of hot water. The park is large but the roads were nice for bike riding. The day use area by the boat launch had so many covered tables and grills.

A small park with ceveral trails. We did the Roadrunner trail - it was very well maintained and clearly marked. The views were nice, but nothing spectacular. The water levels are low, and sadly, the power plant dominates the views from most Vista points. PS: plenty of wildlife here, so be careful!

Enjoyed our Thanksgiving stay there. We rented one of the cabins. Got away from phone service and just relaxed. Cabins were nice and well cared for and clean. Grounds around the cabin sites were well maintained. Only a few other campers were in the area so it was quite. Which was nice and what we needed to get away from town for awhile. The park has heated restrooms with showers which could use a little TLC but mostly was clean and fully operational. Noticed that one toilet needs some repair it was leaking from the base but was still operational. Weather was nice Thanksgiving day and cooked over coal fire in traditional cast iron a simple meal. Watched the sandhill crane flyover and listen to their calls. Sat out that night and viewed the stars. Fished a little while. But didn't catch anything. But really wasn't expecting to. Wrong time of day. But gave me the ability to just sit and spin cast out a line and relax for a while which is all I really wanted to do anyway. Even if anything did bite I would have just thrown it back in the lake. Very enjoyable holiday weekend. It was the off season though so some of the park needed ground keep work. Some areas normally mowed were overgrown. But those were areas close to the boat ramp and in the cold months isn't used. We just drove around and surveyed these areas and didn't really get out of the car. Just wanted to look around a bit. We did hike a short trail and saw some nice terrain. But the trails do need a little more development. They appear to be sort of in the beginning stages. Sometimes the trail can't be differentiated from a natural void or animal trail. But it seems to have a good start. But they do need a little more work. Overall we had a good relaxing time. Attempted to post a short video with the audio of the sandhill crane flyover and their calls. But I don't know if the video works or not. Sorry not a pro at this but I tried.

Really nice function hall, bathrooms look good and the showers have good shower heads. The sites are well spaced but not much shade. Nicely covered picnic table and a fire pit. There are a couple of nice walks around the lake

Absolutely loved my campsite! I slept right on the edge of a beautiful, rocky cliff & could see the lake from inside my tent. Wonderful views! I was the only one in the entire camping area so the privacy & quiet was great! No mosquitos, nothing biting me at all, in mid August. Only $19/night for water & also a covered shelter ??. All you can eat, big, ripe cactus fruits growing everywhere! Very comfortable shower, with 2 shower nozzles raining on you! I would love to camp here again :).
