Food was excellent, our waiter did a great job and was very accommodating when we wanted to wait 20 minutes to try fried pickles since we showed up during their breakfast time. I had their french toast and the husband had their omelette, then we had their very crunchy juicy fried pickles. My only complaint is I wish they would have eggs on the French toast place to would have completed it.
We were traveling through the Hill Country when we came upon Camp Verde. It was indeed an oasis in the rolling hills. We entered in through their very unique gift shop. I'm not a gift shop type of person. I find them to be overly priced items that catch dust. Not so in the Camp Verde Gift Shop. I found their items to be unique and priced moderately. My granddaughter and I had a great time exploring and buying gifts for family members.
Then we had lunch. The food was delicious. The server was fabulous! I bet if you ask your server they will share the story of the camels. We did, it was very interesting. I highly recommend Camp Verde if not for the shopping, the lunch and most definitely the bread pudding and the camels.
Enjoyed this place very much. Good variety, fair pricing, excellent service. Atmosphere is very nice. Breakfast was delicious and gelato tasty. Nice gift store.
When there are the other morning, ordered some tacos for breakfast not happy at all . Everybody really likes lunch menu, but as far as a breakfast tortillas were horrible. Hard they didn’t take the time to warm them up it my have been better or they were having a bad morning management was getting in there face he didn’t even pull them to the side
Has lunch today, ordered the chopped steak with mashed potatoes. The steak was so tough and overcooked it was inedible. The mashed potatoes were only warm and the steak gravy was so salty. Service was OK
My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Camp Verde! My husband had the biscuits and gravy and I had the pancakes with fruit and bacon, and it was absolutely wonderful! The ambience was amazing and the music choice was very tasteful. Our waiter, Starr was beyond exceptional and very attentive. 10 out of 10 server and we will be coming back.
Ainsley in the gift shop was also magnificent. she helped us pick out a number of rings and even helped with recommendation choices and sizing. She is very social and kind. Overall was a wonderful experience and shot beyond our expectations.
The best general store I've ever been to. Went in mid December so it was decorated for the holidays. It's two floors of all types of neat things. Some pretty unique. There's something for everyone. That is for sure. Jewelry, toys, trinkets, decor, purses, colognes, a collection of Yeti items, t-shirts, great kitchen gadgets, honey's, jellies and a bunch of other yummy treats, the list goes on and on. I was just planning on looking but I found a couple things; a neat bottle brush and silicone straws. Definitely worth checking out. Friendly staff too. Oh there's also a restaurant though I didn't eat there.
Hidden gem in plain sight! Food was outstanding. Our server (Theresa) was a great example of great customer service. Coffee was on the spot. I ordered the veggie omelet. Veggies were sauteed which made it more tasty. The biscuits were warm and fluffy! My mother in law ordered the Loaded three egg omelet. Boy was it loaded. She loved it! The scenery is fantastic!
Nothing much changes here. We stopped by after not being here in 9-10 months. Their items are pretty similar. Need to update offerings to keep folks coming back.
After 28 years, I finally made to Camp Verde. I shouldn't have waited so long. The view and atmosphere were exceptional and the food didn't disappoint. I had the Philly Steak & Cheese, which was moist, tenders and flavorful. The onions rings were Texas Sized bites of goodness. Oh, and the store was just my kind of place with lots of good treats, kitchen ware and home decor. It was such an enjoyable time.
Stopped here on the way to lost maples and it’s a pretty spot. Service could have been better, we ordered to-go and it took as long as eating there.
They had a large menu. We only had the breakfast, but there was a lot to choose from.
Expresso was perfect. The brisket tacos were good, I’d pass on the French toast next time.
This is a really beautiful place- the buildings and grounds, patios are so lovely. We enjoyed wandering around through the large shop and bought some gifts. Phia was so friendly and helpful. We decided to eat breakfast in the restaurant and that was an excellent decision. The food was delicious.

The special was Chicken and Dumplings with French Onion Soup Salad Brussels Sprouts. The Chicken and Dumplings were the worst I have-eaten, French Onion Soup in a small and not tasty , the salad was in a cup size bowl. My friend had the Meat Loaf. She it tasted like a ball of hamburger. The Banana Cream Pie was delicious.Don’t think we will go back
First of all Tracie was just super great serving our table. She never missed a beat. Not even on our refills of tea and water on our table of four! Up sold us on desert! Double the upsold by offering coffee after the meal and desert! And refilled it too. We love her! Food was great too! The manger came around and ask about the food and service ! Hey this place is Awesome!
Very nice restaurant with excellent food. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food. From French toast, avocado toast, and cheesy grits. We enjoyed the food, and service was excellent. Tracie represented the restaurant well. She was knowledgeable about the food and everything arrived at our table quickly. The location has a cute shop attached. At a historical location and the setting was very pretty. Worth the trip.
I happened to spot this place just coincidentally and decided to pull in, this place is so cute and cozy. The staff there was lovely and very inviting the items. There were very unique that we didn’t try the restaurant from what I heard the food. There is amazing as well. We had a lovely time looking at all that they offered picked up a few knickknacks as well. Will definitely be coming back when we were in the area.
This is such a beautiful place, and all the camels are great for photos. Research the story behind the camels so interesting. Get the dessert with the chocolate camel.
Came back out again today for a birthday lunch with my sister, daughter and friend. It's been awhile so I wasn't sure if everything was going to be the same or not.
Had the best server ever! Her name was Tracie, she is so likable and sweet. She gave us really good suggestions and made us feel incredibly welcome. If you need to get the heck out of town for a day and you live in the San Antonio area, take the drive to Camp Verde.
We made reservations for lunch, and after a nice, peaceful drive, landed at the general store. It's a typical Texas general store with lots of really cute things and I probably overspent but they had such a great sale going on that I was able to get all kinds of unique Texan knick knacks for my out of state friends.
The restaurant is even better than I remember. My daughter had the smoked chicken and bacon mac and cheese, and I had the Arthur's Delight, which was out of this world, and yes… they serve lots of hot sandwiches… but unique and the flavors and freshness will get you after being out and about..
you will love it. ❤️ The sweet potato tater tots are delicious and we had to give in and have the coconut cream pie with the little chocolate camel on top because… well… it's not something I make myself and they make the pies fresh on site so they can't be beat.
I left a review a few years ago but felt we needed to update it and let everybody know that it is still a really great little place to go for a day trip. The kind of people that go there are congenial as well! I met a lady from Connecticut and we ended up talking about dog rescue in Texas LOL and the staff at the store are just very kind and friendly.
You may want to have a reservation. It's always packed. Always try their desserts. One of my favorite places.
7/14/24 yep still awesome. Call for large party reservations. They do have outside seating as well. Food is amazing. Everything I have had has always been delicious. The service is always outstanding.
We had an excellent experience at the Camp Verde Restaurant and General Store!! I have eaten lunch there with some girlfriends, but today I took the hubby for breakfast!! He had their Huevos Rancheros and I had their French toast. Delicious ?. Their store also has a wonderful historical value to our area!! Make sure to add this to your places to visit when in the Texas Hill Country!!
This was my second visit this time for breakfast on a Tuesday morning while on vacation in Kerrville. Husband and I had the place to ourselves and breakfast did not disappoint. French toast and breakfast croissant were delicious. Service was excellent and the spider web on my vanilla cappuccino was a nice touch given our visit in October. Enjoyed browsing and shopping at the general store.
We've frequently enjoyed going to the Camp Verde store and restaurant for over 20 years, until recently. The restaurant used to be our favorite place to dine but recent management decisions have the restaurant headed in the wrong direction. The quality of food seems to be consistent but food is now served on paper to-go cartons and cups (regardless of whether you dine in or out). The wait staff is not allowed to serve you table side. This has certainly degraded the quality dining experience we once enjoyed. If it's the shortage of staff that's causing this then the allowable seating can be reduced or reservations can be required or something other than reducing the dining in experience to a "McDonalds take out" level. A quality dining experience not only involves quality food but a quality manner in which it is served. If this is not improved by current management then the restaurant will experience greater periods of what the attached picture depicts. The classy setting of the restaurant and the quality food deserve much better treatment than the "paper service" the current management is providing. The wait staff used to be top notch and very personable (and still are but not allowed to be due to the current business model); we enjoyed visiting with all of them - it was part of the experience we really enjoyed. However, we feel the current conditions have them "downtrodden" and not allowed to provide the service they desire. We suspect that many of them have creative ideas to deal with the reduced staffing level while not losing the great dining experience they used to be known for. It's our hope that the current management choses to restore the restaurant to its former superb dining experience rather than continue "the dining in on take out cartons / cups" experience currently in place.
Service was great. All of the staff was super friendly. Dining room was clean and classy. No wait for breakfast on a Thursday morning. The food was less than perfect. Hashbrowns were the frozen kind, just chopped into smaller pieces. Bacon tasted off, not sure what it was. Other than that, everything else was good. Fruit tasted fresh, French toast was delicious and coffee was great. Would recommend stopping by if you're in the area.
Drove 71 miles on a Sunday for a scenic drive and good food. We were not disappointed. Hill country setting made for a nice ambiance. Food was great, must try the meatloaf! Very reasonable prices. MAKE Reservations! Limited seating due to Covid 19.
We had an amazing experience here. Two cool points - (Ladies- they have purse stands) the second is all the beautiful history and architecture of the building. The food was great and the staff all seem sweet and nice. You also get the coolest to go cups which make a great souvenir. We had the Texas BBQ Burger and the Camp Verde Club which were both delicious. Loved the Watermelon Rind BBQ sauce. We shared the apple basket which was good and I loved the Chocolate Camel on top. The Manager Sunny was such a doll. She was so nice and told us about all the upcoming events. We definitely will be back.
