This is one of the most incredible and brilliantly created show with extremely talented people ever! Very Patriotic, history telling, inspiring and entertaining for people of all ages! Long drive to get there but so worth it so I'm coming back with more family and friends! Thank you to the production team and all performers for an amazing job and keeping this gem of a show going for years and years to come!

This musical truly is a gem in the panhandle of West Texas! There is something for everybody at this production, truly! The musical numbers are great, the acting is wonderful, the history embedded is superb, the staff is friendly and oh so very helpful, not to mention you are in the great outdoors! I have seen it numerous times to take different groups of people, and I highly recommend everyone seeing it at least once!

In May if 1985 my dad was killed in a logging accident. 4 adults and 8 kids (my mom, 2 sisters, my aunt and uncle and their two kids and her best friend and 3 kids) hit the road. Along out 45 days travel we stopped at my cousins place and her and her husband brought us to see this. All of us kids (age 10 and under) wanted to go back the next night and I have dreamed of returning and seeing the show again for over 40 years now. The show was that amazing and I imagine that since it is still running it is still amazing.

It never disappoints. I have probably been to see this musical 10 to 15 times in my life and each time I have enjoyed it.. have taken many people who didn't even know it existed and they have continued to say how much they enjoyed it. It should be on everyone's todo list !!! It's a must see for anyone who lives in Texas !! And those visiting Texas !!

The performance of the cast and ensemble was seriously so stellar, felt on par if not better than plays of broadway like production. Such a cool atmosphere with the outdoor stage. I want to give a special shoutout to Brian helping guide the flow of traffic and pass out waters and also trying to help me find my parents when they were potentially lost on the CCC trail - he’s a real king.

The performance was amazing, you’re not allowed to take pictures or videos. The pictures posted with this review were taken before the announcement. Kudos to all the performers for their talent and enduring the heat while singing and dancing for 2+ hours. All staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and more than willing to help find your seats. If possible, buy your tickets in advance at the box office to avoid all extra online fees. They have a few pricing options, but really there’s no bad seats in the amphitheater so go for the lower price option. They give military and first responder (and a few others) discounts. Also, wait for intermission for better priced popcorn. Lol

We spent the week camping in Palo Duro Canyon. As an added bonus to the canyon, we got to see Shakespeare in the Park - Taming of the shrew and Texas The Outdoor Musical. Super impressed with both shows and a must see. Many of the players in the Shakespeare show are also players in the Texas musical. Tremendous talent, amazing production. So much fun!! Thank you!!

This was an awesome experience. My daughter got to go back stage and meet the cast. She also got to appear on stage! My daughter is 8 years old and loved this show more than anything. This show offers so much for the whole family. Everything from the lighting to the performance will blow you away. Jaydn was amazing to my daughter. Would definitely recommend to others and we will definitely be back!

Surprisingly great show. I'm not a musical kinda guy; but, this one is a wonderful performance. If you are offended by our Texas and national flag, skip this performance. From the volunteers around the grounds, saloon girl, and all the backstage to thespians on stage, hats off to you! It is outside (duh, outdoor musical) so all the natural elements within the canyon is possible. The finale is amazing site to see.

Texas Musical- Palo Duro Canyon State Park was a really great production! We’ve thought about going to see it many times, but this was our first. The story was a little cheesy and hard to follow at times, however, that was all overshadowed by the gorgeous canyon backdrop, elaborate dance numbers, beautiful costumes, exciting special effects, talented live musicians, and the overall patriotic message! The set was really more than I expected. For seating, we were top row center and I really think it was great because the stage is pretty wide so this gave us a great view without straining to look at one side or the other. #theonlyplaceyoucanseeforeverandstillseenothingatall #onlyinTexas

We had a great BBQ dinner and enjoyed the show under the Texas sky. Dinner is served buffet style with a friendly team adding your selections to your plate. We recommend getting there early as the line grew quite long. We had great potato salad, Cole slaw and beans along with the star, brisket and sausage. Banana pudding rounded out the dinner. The stage is huge and the cast fills it with well choreographed song and dance numbers. The story recounts the struggles of the early Texans as the figured out how the Native Americans, farmers, ranchers and growing communities would interact. While photography is allowed before the show, photography and videography are strictly prohibited during the show. We enjoyed the opportunity to congratulate and thank the performers for both the show and the patriotic after show recognizing area veterans. Parking is well planned to make exiting the venue at the end of the night very easy.

Enjoyed a Tuesday night show last night while camping at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The musical was great, lots of dancing & interesting story. The backdrop pf the canyon was magnificent. The show was very patriotic, the water canyon light show & fire ? plot line were all interesting. Would definitely recommend. There are concession stands & drinks bar outside amphitheater.

Best show! Impressed by the stellar performances of the cast, and especially through the rain, thunder, lightning, slipping and falling, they all persevered. Thank you to the cast for sharing your gifts. Kudos to the crew also. Thanks to the staff fir keeping us safe. The BBQ dinner was amazing and a great part of the experience. Worth the time waiting through the storm and sitting in the rain in ponchos! Will definitely come back and recommend to friends!

We didn’t stay for a show, but even just driving through, the Pioneer Amphitheatre blew us away. The setup is truly impressive—tucked right into the canyon walls with incredible natural acoustics and a dramatic backdrop. You can tell it would be an unforgettable place to watch a performance, especially with the red rock formations lit up at night. Definitely adding it to the list for our next visit!

Took in the last performance of summer 2024 on 8/3/24. Really enjoyed it! Beautiful setting, friendly staff and enjoyable show. Bonus was a gentle downpour during 3/4 of the show and no one minded. Some put on ponchos, some enjoyed feeling the rain fall on them. The rain enhanced a few of the play scenes that centered on rain and garnered thunderous applause after the song West Texas Rain ended. The fireworks at the end were a fun surprise. Family friendly atmosphere. Wish they would restrict entry after the show starts. Latecomers were disruptive…people were enjoying the show but then had to get up to let late arrivals in to get to their seats. Highly recommend this show for anyone visiting the canyon and area!!

One of the best musicals I've ever seen. TEXAS shows how perfected it has become over the past 59 years it has been performed. This is a must see for anyone living in West Texas. I very much enjoyed it, I will be back to see it again, and I will recommend it to everyone. I went to the very last show of the season and I sat toward the very back, right of center, and the view was still great. I doubt there is a bad seat in the whole amphitheatre.

I have loved working with this show the past two years. I have done ticket booth and front of house, which is our hospitality team. I love the waterworks show at the end and the many special effects throughout the show. The company is always very Converter are of safety of both the audience and the people working on the show. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming and I highly recommend the show to anyone!

We have attended the Texas musical in beautiful Palo Duro Canyon for years. My husband has been attending since the 80s. And I have to sadly say, last night was awful. We went to see our beloved show and continue our family tradition...but the show was quite disappointing. It was not upbeat and lively. It was slow and even dark feeling. They cut the beautiful, colorful dresses and dance that we all loved. They cut many lines and comic relief. The energetic, cowboy dances were replaced with more alternative, ballet moves...it was not fun at all. The music was mostly slow and depressing as well. And there were no fireworks, after we have received much rain in our area. I wish we would have known about all the changes to our wonderful Texas. There is usually a patriotic video at the end and that was deleted as well. What a terrible disappointment Texas has become. We would have stayed home if we had known. I truly believe the director must be depressed or something. I do NOT recommend that anyone waste their time and money on this show.

This production is and always has been amazing. My Parents took our family to see it every year for most of my childhood. As an adult, it is just as mesmerizing as when I was little. A fun night of entertainment for the family. It also throws in a history lesson even if it is just inspired by that history. A great experience in every way.

Where else can you see a musical performance in the middle of the "Texas Grand Canyon"? This was such a unique event! We purchased tickets about 2 months ahead of time and after looking at other reviews online, we took someone's advice of where to sit. In case you need the info, the right side, halfway up (rows K-M) are perfect. The show had a ton of college-age actors/singers/dancers in it (I'm guessing from West Texas A&M down the street in Canyon, TX). They did such a great job and had huge smiles on their faces the entire time. The only thing we didn't necessarily enjoy was the storyline. It was a bit strange and didn't flow correctly in some spots. But it was a great experience overall!

The musical definitely gets 5 Stars the BBQ barely got a 1... dry meat, no flavour beans and coleslaw and potato salad. So not worth $17.25. Top tip go to Whataburger and arrive a little later especially if it's hot. Most of the players were young but they were enthusiastic and very good. Spontaneous moments of laughter and shock. Not sure about how much history I learnt? Fireworks were fabulous, that the time and only time you can take photos. I would pay to see the show again, VIP package and food absolutely not. I'm sure it's Covid related but the gift shop ?

One of the most amazing theatrical experiences of my life! The acting, the atmosphere the ambiance... it was all absolutely magical. It was truly something every warm blooded freedom loving Texan needs to have on their bucket list. Ill be going again next year!

Wonderful! Everything is outdoors inside the canyon! Not only do you get to see an amazing live theater show but you can be surrounded by mother nature! It was fun and will gladly go back!

Nice musical covering the history of Texas as a young state. It varies every year so you won't be disappointed to see it several times. The outdoors amphitheater is a beautiful setting with the backdrop being the canyon walls. The play gets better and better with special affects. There is a dinner (optional $$$) before the play but it's kinda expensive and the BBQ was not the best. Your ticket will get you a reserved seat but there are no bad seats. They do have one intermission but it's still a little long so with that in mind you might want a seat near the top. There is an area up there where you can stand to stretch your legs. They also have a concession stand that serves cold drinks and snacks. After the play the actors will hang around and mingle with the visitors which is nice. Just remember No photography is allowed during the show but you are allowed to take pictures or video when the fireworks start. It's a great show so don't miss it if you're there during the show season (June- mid Aug).

The Texas Show is very much worth seeing! I went on the hottest night of the summer but a nice breeze makes it fairly comfortable. They had a nice barbeque dinner option before that was casual but satisfying. There are no pictures allowed during the show, so my pictures are limited to the finale where they do allow it. They use horses, amazing props, and impressive special effects with a few wow moments to bring together a romantic comedy that brings historical perspective on the Panhandle of Texas. The production quality is high. The dancing and singing were very well choreographed and performed. They give a touching tribute at the end to veterans.

Incredible experience! Facility is gorgeous, people are incredibly friendly, and the show was way more than we were expecting. If you’re looking to save a few bucks and book the cheaper seats on the sides of the theater, I recommend choosing seats on the right side of the theater as many canyon related elements can’t be fully viewed from the left side of the amphitheater.

Unexpectedly astounding production! These folks really know how to put on a show! And it included fireworks! They were showcasing a veteran tribute on July 3 and it was very touching and patriotic. They do not just use the stage for their production... they use the backdrop of the canyon floor and the canyon itself to really bring us an experience I will never forget. I think my favorite was the prairie fire. The absolute artistic expression in dance with our many struggles against fast and furious fires was truly moving. The different characters and intertwined stories were a great way to teach us all our history and inspire us with how they overcame tribulations. Really touching was Quanah Parker's role. He is a cousin (as we all are once you get 6 times removed ;-) ) thru his mother. And while I knew there was a town nearby named after him, it didn't really connect. It was slow sometimes... but a slowing down of the action means you appreciate the intensity more. The music... was a little disappointing. But I grew up watching and performing Oklahoma! So they had quite a bar to hit. They have small mike's which assist in amplifying their voices ever so slightly, so you are basically surrounded by sound and immersed in the musical. Whoever does sound does an amazing job. Immersed but not overpowered. It is uncomfortable due to the tight seating, but center and midway to top up are the best places to view. The use of the canyon floor by the story line is missed if you are to close to the front. The weather was wonderful. They don't allow pictures until the fireworks, so all of mine are from that point. But I have to say.. that lone cowboy carrying the flag at the top of the canyon is so powerful it gave me goosebumps. Going to try to get out there one more time before it ends the season. I can't believe I've lived here 7.5 years and never been! And what is sad? Other people I know have lived here for 25-30 years and they've never seen it either! I will be dragging them kicking and screaming if I have to!

Marvelous, the music, dancing, the fireworks, all marvelous. The canyon is magical at night. I highly recommend the middle section, about a third of the way up. Front row and you will have a neck ache from looking up and you can't take in the whole stage. We came early for the dinner and it was very good. The young waiters wait on you hand and foot. Lovely surroundings, everything is outside. I love Palo Duro Canyon. It was an evening I will never forget.

Absolutely amazing! I was blown away! The chorus and actors are top notch and delivered an incredible performance. Everything from the lighting, pyrotechnics, music, impressive stage setting and costume changes were simply stunning. I cannot wait to come back, a definite must see!
