What a hidden gem! The visitor center is fantastic—packed with fascinating artifacts, and the 20-minute introductory video is a must-see. I was genuinely in awe of the weapons collection on display. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend making time to stop by. It’s absolutely worth it!

A hidden treasure to be sure. If you like Texas history and can imagine the inhospitable terrain and conditions of the era, this is an amazing find. Privately owned and operated, it is definitely not your typical museum. Their historical gun collection is one of the most unique I have experienced. You can’t go wrong making this a stop on your west Texas tour!

We love visiting forts and have never been to one like this. We loved the history and learned so much! The artifacts they had on display and the arrowheads were fascinating! Our younger children enjoyed visiting as well. Highly recommend that people visit this fort.

I thought this place was great! The museum, the Butterfield stage depot, the rebuilt barracks and officers quarters were filled with an extraordinary collection of artifacts that were professionally displayed. My tour guide provided excellent details of the history of the fort that included the fact that this was all done on his families and ancestors private property. The fort renovations and all the building were all done by the family members without State or Federal assistance !!!! This is TRULY a TEXAS PIONEER families history!! Allow three (3) or more hours to see it all. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and hope to return another day !

If you're into frontier history, or even US history, at all this is a must see. I was fortunate enough to meet the owners and tour with an individual that did much of the restoration work. The fort has some fascinating history and stories. Also, if you're coming from tbe south google will guide you to a cemetery nearby, keep going about another mile to the entrance.

Unexpected gem. If you love old guns, this museum has a ton. Overwhelming. Over 500,000 items (not just guns) are on display. The guided tour of the ruins, some refurbished, was enjoyable, and our guide was fantastic.

Neat experience, thank you very much for the tour! I'm an architecture graduate, and am suitably impressed at how well y'all have preserved the buildings on site, especially given the detail given to preserving original stone placements and carvings. Major kudos for that. Neat collection of historical artefacts as well as a great movie, it's worth the stop even if it's raining.

We stopped in without knowing anything about Fort Chadbourne, and we were really glad we did. The fort exceeded our expectations and the staff was exceptionally nice and took the time to show us around personally. The museum is much more than we expected with a lot of very interesting exhibits and an entertaining film. The fort and stagecoach stop are partially reconstructed. It’s a great stop for anyone interested in western history. Admission is free but a $10 donation is suggested.

One of the best museums and historical sites I have visited. The staff were so friendly and the museum was fascinating. I shall definitely revisit this place on my next trip later this year.

One of the most interesting old forts I’ve visited. It is not your typical ‘tourist attraction’. This is REAL History! The museum is especially well done. You could easily spend several hours looking at their amazing collection of old west artifacts, including a stagecoach! If you’re interested in 1800’s firearms, The gun exhibit is a must see! Finally, The ATV tour of the fort and the restored buildings was fascinating as our guide was one of the men who actually worked on the restorations. Highly recommend this place if you’re a history buff.

"Out in the west Texas town of Fort Chadbourne, I fell in love with a real cool museum!" Incredibly friendly staff—very knowledgeable. One of the largest collections of rifles I've ever seen (including the collection at the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Center). Wonderful ruins (both preserved and restored) of a historic fort. Authentic bullet holes in some of the walls—very cool! The museum is very interactive—you can walk through the buildings, climb into a real stagecoach, play I Spy with a beautiful diorama of the grounds, and ride on saddles while watching about the fort's history. Any little boy (or big boy) will totally enjoy a trip out here.
