Business hours say you're open till noon on Saturday. Rolled in at 11:45 and they were locking the gates. When you say you're going to be open, BE OPEN. When work tells me my shift ends at 5, I don't get to roll out at 4:45. Major PITA to load up stuff and bring it in for nothing. If you wanna close early, then change your hours. I stopped going to Thompson for this EXACT REASON.
All the employees are very helpful and nice went above and beyond to help me with a decent sized demolition job which had a lot of scrap metal. Very good pricing if I’m ever back in the area and need someplace for my scrap metal this is where I will go and would highly recommend anyone looking to drop off some scrap metal to use this company you won’t be disappointed.
The guy that works in the metal building where you unload metal and copper is the rudest person I have ever met. He yelled at us the entire time we were there. It is apparent he does not like his job but he shouldn’t be allowed to take it out on the customers.
We took cans and steel today. The guy was so rude and unfriendly. We told the lady in the office she just laughed it off and said he's cold.
Plus the place is always a big mud hole.
I called Saturday and spoken with a lady she was very friendly and I took some aluminum there and got there and a young guy was working in the scale building where they buy aluminum he was very rude and td me and my friend that he wasn't going to unload me and I would have to drive across the scale to weigh because I had to much on my truck I will never go back there the reason why he e said that was cause the could take it that person needs to be fired and get some one in there that wants to be there
As a military veteran I am grateful for the extra 10% these nice folks gave me on top of the already best prices in the area.

Best salvage prices in the area and with the hours they just updated to 4:15 instead of 3:30 it's a lot easier and more convenient to get to them also a great setup when you weigh then you drop your medal and come back around in full circle to weigh again makes for a smooth flow
This was the best scrap metal places I've been to in many years! all of the employees were super nice even helped me( I only have one leg ) and my girlfriend unload the truck !! The prices were ok . the place was clean for a scrap metal business( all the other places have scrap everywhere and you have to worry about flat tires or a piece l metal coming up through your shoe and getting cut or getting run over by a piece of equipment) , I will be using this business again if nothing else due to the super friendly employee's and the yard being so clean !

I weighed my flattened aluminum cans at home. I had 35 pounds. I took it to this place. They paid me for 15 pounds. Beware! This place is stealing from the customers. Since I am a YouTuber, I will be posting a video about how they scammed me. Go somewhere else.
Took my 4th load of cans off today. Got my cabbage.and and they are nice people that do and treat you right thanks wise I will be back monday with another load of cans got 9 loads

Since there is a dearth of recyclers in the TriCities, having one that is easy and convenient is nice. Located off 11W (Stone Dr) in Kingsport, they offer very easy in and our, and the staff are quick and efficient. I like that they offer an additional 0.05 per pound for veterans turning in aluminum cans. I don't know about other products. They seem to be a go to place for your metals recycling, and I will return every time I fill my designated container with aluminum cans.
Well I have a couple tons of steel and 1 ton of aluminum plus 600 lbs of copper I have been saving up over the years. So I decide to scrap all of it. I search online and find the scrap metal places in Kingsport. I then read the reviews and find good and bad about all so I decide to test the places out. So I took 2 aluminum radiators with plastic tanks on them should have been 35 cents per pound. But the guy put them down as irony aluminum (which they were not) and gave me 15 cent a pound. They stole 6! They are smartasses when you question anything complete crooks! So today I'm going to test Thompsons to see how honest they are. Just imagine if I took the entire ton of aluminum I have!!!!! The would have stolen 400 bucks with this scam!
Could use more detail about items their wanting. Different layout each time you visit, confusing entry and process. Needs help in the advertising department. Prices posted somewhere visible other than paper pamphlets would help. Information is power.
This co will steal your stuff!!!! Over 1000lbs of steel not to some a large generator I was given steel price for and 15lbs of aluminum the give me $24 or pick it back up you will be took here!!!!! Im having to call the law on these ppl after they give a non-working # to complain to headquarters don't do biz here folks. OK folks cop say it's a civil matter in other words if you unload here your at there mercy and yep you guessed it ripped off I never shown a weight only argue'd at this biz is a burden on kingsport don't come here guys the don't offer as much per pound at Thompson's but atleast there honest about it.
Very unfriendly! Got there 10 mins before closing n gate was closed & one of th workers was very hateful! WILL NEVER GO BACK N WILL TELL EVERYBODY I KNOW TO GO ELSEWHERE!!!
Most people were alright there, but June 3 2017 was my first time ever being there, it was frustrating, they took forever, one man on a fork lift was a real jerk because I didn't back in (never mind I couldn't see since I am missing a right hand mirror and had junk piled up on my truck with a trailer.
For the price I was given for my metal I'm half tempted next time just to take it to the dump in Unicoi or wait till Omni is open to take it. The attitude and mouth from the one fork lift operator has made sure I won't be coming back. It was hot I had been working my hind end off to hear a fork lift driving screaming and gripping because I didn't back in, BTW another employee told me I could.
Their operation is confusing, if you have not been there you will feel and be treated like a idiot, they should atleast post some signs with instructions, but it doesn't matter to me, that was my first and LAST trip there, stupid how people want to treat others that are working harder so they can have scrap for a pay check. BTW I had a pair of glasses on that is a camera, I'm thinking about posting the video.
Price of metal is down but for the time I sat around waiting on them to do their job AFTER I unloaded my truck and trailer I'd assume to give it away to someone else than to give them my business. They wasted atleast 30-45 mins of my time while I'm sitting in the hot sun after working hard to remove the scrap you need to have a job, but what do they care right? You guys really should treat people better, if you apologize to them they just ignore it and this is the main cause for my neg review when it wasn't me that should have had to have apologized for anything, the older guy inside and the lady behind the cash window were kind so I for sure am not speaking about them.
Worst experience I've had with a salvage yard.
