Greeter Falls was an awesome stop off at Savage Gulf State park. The trails were well maintained. If you havent been before I highly recommend taking the hike to both the upper and lower falls. The lower falls offers the spiral staircase as well as the steeper areas. As you approach the falls there's wood steps that can get a little interesting trying to navigate as they get slick with the clay and the mist from the falls.

This state park is amazing! Their is a north south east and west side. We went to the north we hiked to the lookout what a beautiful view! It also has a stone door which is a boulder that is cracked and you walk through as you go down the stairs. They also have camping their and their is a visitor center. Don't forget to ask for your free passport book of all the state parks and get it stamped. There are also bathrooms if you need to use them.the walking trail is totally paved it was so nice. There is some benches at the lookout you can stop and rest. You can also hear the water flowing

Stunning outback areas. Primitive Tennessee. Watch your step and respect the wildlife. Trails are well marked. Beautiful views that take your breath away. Children require close supervision to stay safe

Super impressed with this park, beautiful views!! I am looking forward to exploring every trail here!!

Beautiful but very slippery. I fell on the very large rock, about 10 ft. It should have warnings. I'm an avid hiker. I don't fall often. Don't step on the big rock and you should be fine. Go left at the bottom and be careful!

I LOVE this state park. There’s multiple waterfalls & a great overlook. The trails are clearly marked with mileage, colors, & junction signs. The map from the visitors center is detailed & clear. The park is clean & well maintained. We loved it so much we came back the next wkend bc we missed a waterfall even after 17 mi of hiking over 2 days & camped a night. All of the staff were super friendly & very helpful. Some places are very accessible, others are for experienced hikers. Thank you for providing us with such a wonderful state park! It may be my favorite. Warning to others: know your limit, wear good hiking shoes, pack some basic emergency supplies & a laminated map, stop by the visitor center for helpful info of where to go based on your interest & hiking ability, show up early. Cell service is spotty & doesn’t work when you go in the gulf. Don’t rely on your phone to get you places solely. There are snakes (back away & leave them alone) & hornets/bees etc. keep any food & drink in a closed ziplock. Enjoy your time. It’s a beautiful place!

beautiful hike and time with the family! Be careful and take your time - slippery! Wear shoes with grip. Not an easy hike down to the falls.

Hiked here with friends, and this is maybe my favorite place ever. There are so many beautiful spots for photos or to just take in the scenery. Very peaceful and beautiful.

One of my favorite TN State parks. Just recently made a state park. Favorite hike is Stone Door, Big Creek Gulf/Rim loop. 8+ tough miles of beauty. Near the campground there is a connector to Greeter Falls. Tons of great hikes in this area. Towns of Altamont and Beersheba Springs are pretty dead as far as places to shop or eat, but Tracy City and Monteagle are within approx. 30 minutes. Swimming holes at Blue Spring trail and Greeter Falls.

We did just a day trip to Savage Gulf and our family had a blast. One of my boys is color blind the park offered a color blind view finder which was awesome. The trails were well kept and accurate. We will definitely go back. Staff was super nice and informative.

There are 3 public entry points. The South is closest to the larger water fall. The trails are awesome and range from beginners to moderate. It's beautiful and full of wildlife.

Breathtaking views from Laurel Gulf Overlook and Stone Door. About a one mile, easy hike, first on a paved, accessible trail and then on sandy, loamy soil to Laurel Gulf Overlook followed by several Stone Door Overlooks. The climb down through Stone Door itself was short but steep and narrow. Big Creek Rim Trail, which again was soft, sandy, loamy, and piney, was lined with more stunning overlooks along the ridge of the Gulf. Public restrooms, picnic tables, and a cute gift shop at the Ranger's station. Such an amazing place so close to Nashville and Chattanooga!

This is a nice state park that was almost turned into a lake years ago. Glad it wasn't . If you don't exercise regularly this will be a nice hike to a beautiful overlook. If you do, maybe the stairs at the Stone door will raise your heart rate. Overall a very nice trail. Stay on the path though, there is poison oak if you venture off either side of the trail. The overlook does not have any railing if you decide to take younger children there. Please keep a close eye on them.

Gorgeous scenery in the park...beyond the park...not so much. I camped for 2 days at the east entrance ti Savage Gulf at the savage campground. Other folks were easily heard as was seeing other campfires. I prefer more solitude but this works in a pinch. Also, I learned by staying in site no. 8, walking by the outhouse is the quickest route to the site. If I were staying here again, I'd look into more remote sites for privacy. Beautiful but heavily used trails. Lots of pink lady slipper orchids around the area. Several leashed and unleashed dogs around. No showers.

This state park is breathtaking. We visited Savage Gulf State Park December 2023 and this time we visited during Thanksgiving week. Beautiful trails, plenty of parking, bathrooms, picnic areas, camping grounds and scenic views. Waterfall close to the parking lot. This time it did not have a lot of water due to the drought. Dog friendly!

This state park is just gorgeous!! We took a weekend backpacking trip with our pups from the North to South rim and had a wonderful time. The trails are well maintained and marked. Available water sources were scarce, but we went in June, so be sure to pack enough. Beautiful views and the campsites were well maintained too!

BEAUTIFUL! The entrance to this area is pretty small. There are signs, but it’s easy to miss if you’re going a little too fast. Once you get inside, there’s a small Ranger Station that was closed. However, the bathroom were open and clean. There’s also a bulletin board with a map of the area and trails. You can either take a picture of it or download an app that has the trails on it. You can find free wifi close to the ranger station. There trails are wonderfully marked. My family and I only did a small loop to see the gorge. With the fresh fallen, it looked so incredible. The trails weren’t busy when we started early afternoon, but certainly started to pick up as we were hiking out. I believe there’s a camping area close to the entrance, but we didn’t see or here any campsites. So if you’re looking for a peaceful area to camp for a few nights, I think this would be perfect. I would definitely recommend giving this place a visit!

The greater area known as Savage Gulf State Natural Area, is also known as South Cumberland State Park and has four entrances, East, West, North, South. Today we entered at Savage Gulf East, 3157 State Road 399, Palmer, TN. 3 of the 4 trail heads host scenic water falls. Savage Falls is on this trail. Since this park is actually a State Natural Area, it is not as developed as most parks are. If you are interested in connecting with nature, this park will help. There are picnic areas, camp grounds, canyons, trails, water falls, and more scenery . Fallen trees are allowed to lay where they fall and are cut only to clear a trail. Since this park is in the Cumberland Mountains, it's high elevation subjects it's trees to lofty high winds. The area has lots of Mt Laurels and when they are in bloom (around May), it would be like walking through a flower garden. The trails are not handicap accessible and at this location neither are the restrooms. I would rate this area a 5 for beauty and 3.5 for accommodations. South Cumberland State Park is comprised of 10 distinct units scattered over 100 square miles covering more than 30,800 acres. UPDATE. Savage Gulf has been named Tennessee's newest State Park as of Sept, 2022. Stay tuned for updates and renovations to this area.

Had a great backpacking trip around the entire park, 4 days of hiking and every second was filled with the gorgeous outdoors. The park rangers were super helpful in pointing out areas water would and wouldn’t be, and noted locations that trees had fallen on the trail that they hadn’t cleared on the trail (yet). Campsites were clean and very reasonably priced for overnights. Must recommend to anyone looking for a great hiking location. Bring tweezers for tick removal, some trails have taller grass on the rims that you will want to stop and check for ticks after walking through. After our trip the Park Ranger took time out of his day to review our map of areas that had water and where we noted downed trees, thank you Erin!

This hike was great. Started at the ranger station hiked to the falls and a bit more to check out the campground. There is plenty of water sources. It was muddy because of recent rains but I was able to avoid the mud using my trusty Trekking poles. Its a fairly easy hike but i recommend use the trekking poles.

Really beautiful state park. The hiking trails are very nice and clear 99% of the hike. They need a better blazing marker system, they need to be more than just white. This completely threw me off and I ended up way out in no man's land. Little to no cell service, so be very careful. This area is very remote and is wonderful to take a day and hike leisurely and enjoy it. Gorgeous spring flowers on the Collins Rim Trail. The Collins Rim Trail is the gorge so be prepared to hike through lose rocks and either up or down the gorge. Some of the nicest Rangers I have ever met work the Natural Area.

This area offers breathtaking views, great trails, spectacular waterfalls . Something for everyone . There are spots for picnics and grilling out . You can walk easy trails or longer harder trails. The views are spectacular and there are several waterfalls that are in close proximity to each other. We visited Stone Door , Laurel Falls and Overlook then we drove a short 10 minutes to get to Greeter Falls which was gushing full of water after the rains the night before. It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I love this area and it was worth the 2.5 hours we drove to get there. Can't wait to return.

This is a very beautiful little park. Some of the trails are pretty easy going someone more kind of rough. It's a good park for a family hike and maybe a nice picnic or cooking out. Today got to see a lot of beautiful plant life and a little bit of the wildlife running around the park. The ball for beautiful Know the call's that overlook couldn't see because of the trees But over all this park is a very nice park to explore to hike.

Great park with really nice views and good hiking. I parked at Greeter Falls parking and hiked the loop through Stone Door, about 11 miles round trip. Along the river it was a little rough as it had just rained, but that made for great views along the river. The crossing to Ranger Falls was completely submerged which tells you how high the water was.
