A1 Auto Recyclers were able to give me top dollar for my old van when she bit the dust. They were courteous and answered the phone the first time I called. They had a check in the mail to me in Maine in no time. Excellent customer service.
I tried to buy a motor from a1. The first phone call went great. They said they would get the motor out of the car and call when it was ready for pick up in the next few days. 10 min later I get a call back and I'm told I must prepay for the motor. Im not into paying for used parts that are still in the donor car nor am I going to pay for something that I can't get a for sure date to pick up. Pretty stupid policy on a1s part as I'm going to be buying a more expensive motor and I'm happy to pay the extra for the to deal with a company that understands what customer service is. In 30 years of buying parts from salvage yards i have never ran into this. I can't wait to read the rebuttal the owners come up with.
We just acquired a cattle guard from this location. When my disabled veteran husband went in to speak with Mark his response was you will have to go move it and see if it fits yourself. To give some perspective my husband is an amputee with a prosthetic leg, is wearing a back brace and also a brace on his right leg. Mark very easily could have gotten up out of his chair and said let me help you. Thankfully I was with my husband so he didn’t have to lift the guard into the truck on his own. I feel like if this is how they treat someone who is disabled let alone a disabled veteran I hate to see how they treat others in the public. We will be encouraging all of our friends in the area not to use this company. Also notice how they handle reviews that are not 5 stars, a lot of blaming the consumer rather than taking responsibility for poor performance.
Deal with these guys alot good parts and always friendly staff however I saw a post on Facebook stating you never see individuals of color working at a1 and I'd have to say now that it was mentioned I have noticed that as well other then that issue nice place to get auto parts
I was in the market for a new (to me) Subaru forester. I saw the one I was interested in online and was immediately able to come in for a test drive. Hans was super helpful and made the entire buying process easy and far less stressful than other dealerships I’ve been to. They were flexible and worked with my time frame for picking up the vehicle after purchasing. 10/10 would recommend purchasing a vehicle from here.
I buy a lot of things from these folks, but today a gal answered the phone and she was very rude right off the bat. I asked how she was and she said “WHAT DO YOU WANT?! I said well can we run a vin number because there’s three options for said part. She got upset, put me on hold and instantly hung up on me. This will be the last time I purchase anything from this facility. If you’re having a bad day that’s understandable, but don’t put that on the rest of the world. Regardless of what is written as a response what I’m sharing is my experience and what happened to me that day. Out of anger and retaliation you can go block me from your facility and that’s fine. As far as the number of items someone buys if that’s not important to you that says a lot about customer service and care. Best wishes A1 ;)
I purchased a vehicle from them and couldn’t be happier with the whole experience. Hans went above and beyond with some complications on my end. Breath of fresh air to deal with good and honest people.
These guys are awesome! Needed to get rid of my car all the way out in Hill City, they were super quick to get back to me, excellent with communication, and had my driveway empty within hours! So impressed. Great customer service, easy to work with, and got the job done ridiculously fast. Shout out to Hans!
Had a good experience the first time getting parts here. This time trying two different emails I never received the payment link in order to have a part ready to be picked up. Even calling a couple days in advance Mark refused to pull the part and hold it so I could just come in and pick it up. Going to make me sit and wait while they pull it. ANY other salvage yard I have EVER dealt with says “You bet, I’ll have it ready at the counter for you”.
Now that’s service.
I’m an OTR driver with limited time at home, which I explained, and just want to be able to run in and pick up the part I need with out waiting.
Acting unconcerned about a customer never receiving an email from them and refusing to hold apart for a couple days is not.
Originally this was a three star review because of their lack of concern about my limited time at home and their lack of concern about me never receiving the payment link. But now this is a one star review because rather than keep a customer happy that they know was interested in many parts of a vehicle including the motor, I have been refused service because of the three star review I left . I was planning on spending over $2,000 purchasing the motor and other items, but I will no longer do business at this location. I would rather spend twice as much and have the motor shipped then do business here again.
In fact, I just gladly paid over twice as much for the same part through Rapid Auto Salvage where I will do business from now on because of how they treat their customers. Even if the part needs to be shipped.
I purchased a 6.7L engine for my 2014 RAM 2500 from A-1 Auto Recycler's and I couldn't be happier with the product that I received. They were able to provide me with the complete history of the engine along with compression and oil pressure. They even inspected the fluid after the engine was drained. I highly recommend this business if you are looking for quality used auto parts.
This place was a total scam!! They ripped me off. Don’t use them!! I would never use them again for anything! The gave me $20.00 for my 2014 Subaru. The scrap yard would’ve paid me $200-$300. It cost me more in gas to come there than I got for my vehicle. Bad business practice & the guy at the front counter was a total tool. Never again will I trust this company
They sell you the wrong part then charge you a restocking fee to put it back on their shelf when you return it. This is obviously the wrong sunroof glass.
Hans at A1 was fantastic! Our vans front end went out while we were on vacation in SD! We picked up another used vehicle from another party!
Thanks to A1 we didn’t have to worry about what to do with our stranded vehicle. They picked it up and waited for us to return from vacation to mail the title to them since we live in MN!!

Bought a used part for my vehicle with the help of parts clerk Ryan. Turned out part was non-functional. Considering 60-90 day warranty, contacted Ryan for replacement part or a refund. I was told replacement is not available and part will be sent to Toyota for verification and 20% restocking fee will be charged. I was then told part checked out fine by Toyota. Considering that I asked Ryan to provide inspection report and send the part again to me so I could use it and troubleshoot other components of my vehicles. During 5+ conversations/emails with Ryan over 20+ days, he always came up with a reason to not provide proof and would not refund money. Ryan's attitude was condescending and very unprofessional all along.He also lied about donor cars mileage and how long these parts (over 5 years) have been sitting per the carfax report. Finally had to engage Credit Card company to dispute the charge. Next step is to complain with SD's governor's office of consumer affairs for unethical business practices.

The response from business owner is spurious. I am primarily complaining about how the employees are treating customers post sale, and how the company is being run now and not 50 years ago. He has not mentioned once that he will look into improving customer service even though multiple bad reviews are highlighting it.
Business owner seems to not have read my review carefully so summary of events follow.
1. Part purchased and shipping paid by customer (me)
2. Part is called "AC Amplifier" module/controller and not heater module.
3. Module is a plug and play and does not take more than 15 minutes to connect/install.
4. Installed module but it was non-functional. Removed and reinstalled it multiple times in case connectors were loose, but it would not turn on any AC components, whereas original will turn on AC system but cuts off in minutes. Problem diagnosis with original module is that at least one transistor out of 3+ present in it is bad. Hence a replacement module is needed.
5. Since A-1 recycler's module would not turn on anything, engaged Ryan to order a replacement module. He said none other available and this is the only one in inventory.
6. I then requested refund and Ryan said, 20% restocking fee will be charged. I asked why and Ryan said, its mentioned on receipt.
7. I checked receipt and there was no mention of any restocking fee.
8. Ryan asked me to email the receipt which I did and he acknowledge receipt of it.
9. Upon inquiring for refund again, Ryan replied, module will be sent to Toyota dealership for testing and the results will be available within 5 days. I was then told module checked out fine by Toyota.
10. I asked Ryan to share the test results and resend the same part since its good.
11. After several days, I engaged Ryan again via call for proof and part reshipment but he started to be short and then hanging up phone.
I needed a cv axle today and called a1 they said they had it and gave me a quote of $60, I drove out there and they changed the price to $125! So disappointed no reasoning why, I got a brand new cv axle for $130 from the manufacturer.. I feel like those guys saw I was a young lady that didn't know anything about cars so they upped the price on me.. I'm glad I didn't buy through them i have a brand new one now
Fantastic deal on tires and helpful and happy service! They even stayed open an extra 30 minutes because I couldn't make up my mind on which set I liked more. Will definitely keep giving them my buisness in the future!
I recently purchased a 2007 Hyundai Tucson and am very happy with it. I mainly worked with Hans who was very knowledgeable, friendly, and honest. He answered any questions I had and I didn't feel pressured to buy anything. We went in, took the car for a test drive, filled out paperwork, and were out the door in about 45 minutes. Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend these guys to anyone looking for quality cars and quality service!
My cars engine died and when I called these people were right onto the problem. They got back to me right away and gave me great information. They even talked to me about going to other competitors just to see if I could get a better offer on my car. A great company with great customer service. Highly recommended.
Brought in an old vehicle to sell on a trailer and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They even unloaded the vehicle off the trailer for us. I've been doing business with A-1 for years and I'm always satisfied when I leave.
I would recommend this place. Quality, very easy to work with and prices are really affordable! I am from Illinois and I did get a car frame and I couldn’t believe that the frame is like brand new, bart any rust,compared to the ones that i went to look at and as i said before price incredibly low, fyi i paid more for shipping but it was worth it. Also everything was done over the phone, i asked for photos, 15 minutes later i got photos. Really recommend this place and especially Mark who helped out and answered every question i had.
Buying a car from them was the best! Hans was great to work with. Went the extra mile to send pics and info since I was over 10hr away. It was everything he said it would be.
When buying a salvage title vehicle. Transparency is important. The team at A1 had no problem providing before an after photos and even a direct conversation with the mechanic who did the repairs. I ended up getting a great ram rebel 1500 at a great price thanks to Hand and The Team at A1.
Absolutely fantastic! Our son was driving across the country, back home from college, when his car died just outside Rapid City, and my husband drove 1500 miles to go pick him up. We called A-1 and they were so amazing! We were able to leave the car and they picked it up for us, we mailed the title and they sent payment to us. They were 100% reliable and ethical, and really saved us from a crunch! Thank you so very much
I highly recommend A-1 Auto Recyclers! Our vehicle died in Rapid City on a road trip from Minneapolis to Spokane. Hans and the crew at A-1 made the process of dealing with the dead vehicle painless. They quickly towed the vehicle from the repair shop to their yard. Communication was excellent. They even removed and shipped me the aftermarket stereo that was installed in the vehicle!
I highly recommend this company and Hans! Hans made a very difficult transfer of a totaled vehicle from the tow company to A1very easy. He always answered my questions promptly, paid a good value for a totaled vehicle, and was concerned about my family member that was in that truck. Customer Service was exceptional!
I bought a starter from A1. For my truck. I gave the wrong info. So I was worried to try and return it. However to my surprise they we’re super cool and I now know what engine is in my truck. A-1 is wonderful! I got to work with Tony and Hans and both were so incredibly kind. They were fair in their pricing and didn’t make me feel dumb for having bought a terrible dud vehicle which died only weeks after purchasing it. I will absolutely do business with them again!
I recently bought a salvage title 2017 Subaru Impreza from A-1 Auto Recyclers. It was a very pleasant experience from start to finish. The staff is very friendly and buying from here is much more comfortable than a traditional car dealership. There are no pushy sales people and all the vehicles are listed at a great price.
