We walked the Coquina trail, 1.4 miles. It was nice and peaceful, only 1 other walker while we were on the trail. It has some really good views of the lake at the higher points of the trail. That's you right by the ruins of the grist mill and spillway. We'll definitely be back to walk some of the other trail Poinsett has to offer. No pics this time.

Incredibly beautiful and historic park! My daughter and I had such a good time. We hiked a beautiful loop, enjoyed the playground, and read all about the parks history. Will absolutely be coming back and plan to camp here for sure! Definitely recommend if you want some fun hikes.

Great stay! Park Rangers have done a great job upgrading and continue to make upgrades. Way to be! Store has novelty items, firewood and fire starters. Paved roads. Campgrounds are well maintained, clean bathrooms and lovely hot showers. Added surprise was bike trails. Thank you and take care! JnK ✌️

Pretty nice little pond and trails. Nice rangers and overall nice campsites. Roads to campsites are very tight with a 36ft trailer. Unfortunately their is a Karen host at this camp at the moment. Apparently after seeing my dog with out a leash for a moment she threatens to throw me and my kids out. Apparently her dog was recently attacked, which maybe makes he touchy....but dont tell me to leash my dog when yours isnt on one.

Poinsett State Park in Wedgefield, SC (midlands of SC, about 82 miles and 1.5 hours from Charleston/where we live) We did the Coquina trail (1.4 miles) and saw some of the other trails spots, shelters or lookouts. Old mill ruins on site, will have to zoom in for some of the photos. Has a small shop on site, ranger on duty was super nice and answered all our questions. Don't forget to get your Ultimate Outsider stamp for your SC State Parks Passport book (a stamp inside the shop and the large sign by parking lot before heading toward the shop/bathrooms). Pet friendly park (saw lots of dog friends), fair bit of hikers seemed to be outn(warmer today than entire weekend, so not surprised).

This was a nice place to go for a hike with friends and a dog.People that are there seem to be extremely friendly. It's a clean park with a lot of different trails. It also has a playground, kayaking and boating. You're also allowed to fish there. I would recommend this. This park also offers a lot of benches to sit down in rest while Hiking. Please for a day trip with the family or friends.

What a gorgeous park! We saw the grist mill ruins and waterfall, hiked a little bit, drove up to the "lookout" and wandered around. Really, really pretty place. Very nice ranger.

The lake was pretty. There is a short hike, but a little challenging up hill around the lake. Found some old and interesting rest areas up the hill. The spillway wasn't spilling. Lol. Still a pretty cool place.

Overall a very nice park. Great walking/hiking trails. Good camp sites not on top of each other. Adequate water pressure, power dog showed good electric. Easy in out dumping station. The rangers were friendly and very helpful if you need anything.

We absolutely love this place! Lots of trails and the ranger in the visitors center was very friendly and knowledgeable.

A pretty park. I'd like to give them 5 stars. Unfortunately, I cannot because they discriminate against Not SC seniors. They charge them twice as much as they charge the SC seniors. That's strange and unfair. But the park is pretty. See my pictures.

Beautiful park! Very well maintained and lots of trails to explore. The ranger in the welcome station office, I belive his name was Sanders, was incredibly nice and helpful! Great employee!

Beautiful park with trails, a lake, camping, and a number of shelters. The office/store is only open a couple of hours a day, though.

Camped here over the weekend. Nice peaceful campground, clean bathhouses. Went on a ranger-led hike and learned about the CCC work that built the park.

Beautiful area. I would also like to clarify a few things that I had questions about: -There is a drop box at the gate with instructions that make it sound like you need to pay cash, however if the office/gift shop is open (directory signs to the office are clearly labeled), you can pay card there. Admission is $3 -Pets are allowed -You can rent paddle boats, kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, and small (non-motorized) fishing boats at the office if they are open, or you can bring your own non motorized watercraft (it may not be motorized and it must be small enough that you or your party can carry it from the parking lot to the lake). -There is a swimming area in the lake, but it is currently closed (as of October 2025). -Fishing is permitted (neither fishing nor boating are permitted in the swimming area). -This is a great place for biking, hiking, boating, fishing, and camping -Cabin camping is available. I believe that RV and tent camping is also an option. Camping should be booked in advance. -There is a gift shop with concessions.

I enjoyed hiking the Coquina Trail and would say it is easy to moderate! It was a well maintained park and trail and the staff person was kind and helpful.

It's been about 3 or 4 years since I've been to this state park and the amount that they've done to it is amazing! Bathrooms were clean air conditioned and smelled very nice! Although there was no hot water for the showers. The roads in campsites are well maintained and the campground hosts and rangers are super friendly.

Great park! Rent a kayak or boat and cruise the lake, or walk one of the trails. There are cabins to rent or use one of the shelters for a picnic. A very peaceful setting.

Great hiking trails, Fishing, Picnic areas, Playground . Beautiful place. No swimming area. Beware snakes when hiking. They put cones out on the trail to warn snakes were spotted in that area. Which I thought was helpful. (They were still right there.) So cool. Just took a picture and keep on moving so I didn't bother it.

One of my favorite parks so far in South Carolina. It has everything. Canoeing, Miles of hiking trails, campgrounds, cabins, and some exotic wildlife (I mean Gators Lol). Highly recommend Poinsett Park.

A lovely camping spot we called home for a few days. Easy access to electricity water, and the trails from our camping spot, and a short walk to the showers (which were warm with great pressure).

Beautiful place. There are many different trails to choose from. The park staff is amazing and very kind. I love going here. We stayed in a cabin and will definitely be going back.

Beautiful state park with diverse plants and trees - great for hiking but even better for a trail/ mountain hike. Lovely lake with kayaks for rent, large playground, campground , bathrooms and office with info, merch and snacks. Definitely will return with my bike.

Poinsett State Park is a smaller park and definitely one of the older parks in the system. Parks & Rec has been making improvements as the main road into the park is recently paved. The dump station in the campground was new and a new group camping area is under construction. I give the camping at Poinsett a 2/5. The campground area roads are very tight with some sharp turns that can make navigating with a trailer over 35 foot somewhat difficult. The campground roads are all loose dirt/sand/gravel mix and kick up a lot of dust every time someone drives through. We stayed in sites 2 & 3. Beware if you stay in site 2 it is very difficult to get into with large trees immediately on either side of the entrance, a tree in the middle of the site, and another tree on the opposite side of the road across from the entrance making it very hard to get into. Most of the campsites also had large exposed roots which are a risk of tripping and also making it difficult to get your camper in. When we stay in site 3 someone must have dumped their black tank on the ground as the site was very smelly of sewer gas. Make sure to bring bug spray and insect spray for the ground as there are ants everywhere. Sites were good sized. The bathrooms had no AC and were at least 10-15 degrees warmer than outside. Water pressure in the showers was amazing though! Outside of camping the rest of the park is a solid 4/5 ranking. There are over 25 miles of trails integrating with the nearby state forest and the Palmetto Trail system. Mountain biking was clearly a big activity. The office/store is medium sized and looks fairly new with nice picnic tables available. It sits near the lake and paddle boat and canoe rentals. There is also a small swimming area. Near by is a small waterfall where the old grist mill sat in the mid-1700s. There are quite a few shelters for large gatherings and 5 cabins.

I just wish they would cut down the trees at the overlook. Just like many national and state parks, the overlooks are overgrown. Thr overlooks are a gem within the park that 5 be seen. It is a shame that something this simple could make a monumental change. The view was a premium must see and now it isn't even visible during the fall. Overwise, this is a great park with the best marked trail system you will find.

Love this park. We have been a few times now. This last time we went geocaching and had a wonderful adventure while we hiked the trails. We watched staff feed the snake in the office and got a shirt a cup. Staff was friendly. They cater to bikes on the trail! This was an amazing idea. They have a spot to repair your bike of inflate the tires. What a concept!

Busy on the weekends, quite during the week days (campground). Trails are nice and interconnecting allowing for new hikes daily. Mountain biking is also pretty quality. The first few spots at the campground are the "difficult" sites to get into due to angles, trees, and space. If you have anything bigger than a travel trailer look for a bigger spot/higher numbered spot. Mine is site 2 and is pinned between two entry trees and a tree at site 3 making it difficult to get into. 22 foot trailer.

Nice, quite campground with water and electric only. The bathhouse was directly behind us. They are very clean but need some maintenance. Rusty the host was very friendly. Andrew the Ranger was very friendly too. The lake and office is about a half mile from the campground. Site 7, 2 bars Verizon, 20A & 30A only, Water, no sewer. Does have a dumping station. Fairly level site. Had to lift one side about 1.5" and the front about 3". Dirt/sandy site.

Local treasure! Well maintained and clean. My family visited for the first time yesterday. The lake, creeks and babbling streams were absolutely beautiful. Great picnic areas and plenty of options for family fun with cabin rentals, playground, paddle boats, canoes, etc. Plenty of space for frisbee or other backyard sporting options. Our dog loved it. Parking lot is right beside the picnic area so it's very convenient to get supplies.
