Beautiful State Park on Lake Juniper in Cheraw. Newer camp sites, cabins and also rustic cabins in Camp Forest. Nice swimming area and playground for children...

It is a nice little park, didn't get to spend much time there this trip but we will be back.

Absolutely beautiful Park. Just as nice to go to in the off-season as summer. The trails are actually very nice as well. A short 2 mile, and a 4 and 1/2 Mile Trek. Be sure to take a walk around the lake. Everything is just stunning. If you're going from Myrtle Beach, it's about 95 mi. Pretty much an enjoyable ride though. And well worth it. Not much to visit in the the town of Cheraw. It is the home to dizzy Gillespie and they have a couple of landmarks for him. It looks like the town was thriving at one point but not anymore. I believe it is also a Sunday dry town. I cannot speak for the rest of the week. Kayaking is fantastic there. A couple of years ago it was $20 for an hour but again well worth it.

Such a lovely park. Super quiet and well mainained. The trail around the lake is so beautiful and easy to walk. There's another trail at the very end of the park, it was 4 miles long and beautiful.

Lovely park with clean facilities & gorgeous lake lots to do & great picnic area. The boardwalk trail is worth the visit.

You'd be hard pressed to find another public golf course more tranquil and less expensive in the Pee Dee area. Also, the club house is attractive and the fairways are manicured to resemble putting greens. Wow! The state sponsored camping and golfing grounds offer picturesque views from every angle. Take few photos and you won't be disappointed. By the way, if you've never seen one, you'll find the fox-squirrels interesting at Cheraw State Park too.

This park is really beautiful. The lake and boardwalk are pretty and its just a very peaceful place to sit down and relax. We walked around and just explored for about an hour. We were blown away by how nice everything was.

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful campground... Unfortunately we picked a weekend where we could barely breathe as the weather was close to 100 each day, we would highly recommend it & we definitely will go back

Great park! The campground is small but nice with a few spots that even have sewer access. The bathhouses are exceptionally cool in the summer (a plus!!). Highly recommend!

I highly recommend this state park for anyone who wants to go swimming, rent a boat, or play volleyball. There are plenty of picnic spots and grills for any occasions. If you like to play golf, there is a golf course next door. A beautiful place. We will be back.

It's a beautiful park. I love a good boardwalk, and the one that they have is fairly long, so you can spend a decent amount of time on it. From the boardwalk, we saw several turtles and a few fish. Also, the staff in the office were friendly!

A MUST!! Booked one night, but loved it so much that we booked a second night's stay. It's so peaceful here. Not too many spots available so book early.

Lovely place for a stroll, picnic, sightseeing, relaxation, jog, hike, etc.... Mostly flat trails for hiking. Well appointed golf course with ample parking. Lake Shore views, free to enter.

We hiked to a beaver lodge between 2 scenic ponds and enjoyed lunch. It was idyllic and isolated because the longer loop trail is closed due to wind fall. But it's fine as an out and back. We found out about the trail closure and the nice picnic spot from the friendly ranger at the station. You must check out out. Great selection of stickers and souvenirs in addition to knowledgeable and friendly staff. The trail was overgrown, but still easy to follow using the trail reassurances/markers. The boardwalk and dam were fun. I would write more but the AI summary is accurate. I will definitely be back in the summer to enjoy the lake.

Incredible location with a massive lake and plenty of hiking trails. Beautiful state park with a swimming area, grills, and cabins! We found lots of mushrooms when we went!

I called ahead of time to make sure they were renting kayaks, boats etc and they were, so we packed the family up and drove two hours there. Once we got there, we were told that two of us couldn't kayak because we had never done it before. But the other two in our party could because they had kayaked before. So, if you want to kayak, be prepared to be turned down if you are a first -timer! We even asked could we rent a two seater so my thirteen year old could kayak with her dad. We were told "no, it doesn't work that way". Park was nice. We swam and fished and had a picnic. Bummed we couldn't kayak though. 🤷♀️

The Park Scenery is outstanding. Our campsite (#9) was lake front 30' from water. The hiking and walkways couldn't be better. My only minor complaint was the large gravel on the campsite making it uncomfortable to walk on especially my dogs.

Overall super cute park. Only real negative was that if you were camping or using the boat ramp you had to left the park to get to the cabins, golf course, or park center. They have a great habit for fox squirrels and the sunsets from the campground are amazing.

This review will include the Cheraw Campground. As a child, I remember ever so little but I do remember enough to know that I was happy here. I saw in another review of this park that they had a dump station at the entrance of the campground so I decided to go. I went to the state park first to walk the dogs and I remembered being there before. Things had changed a little in 40 years but it was still a site to see. We then went to the campground that I don’t remember any of except for today. I entered their campers only area and slowly looped around to be seen as I stopped at the dump station at the exit in hopes that someone would follow. And Al did. Al and I bonded some in conversation and was understanding of my way of arrival. They charged a more than fare price to use their system and for that I am very grateful. Thank you, my fellow Nevadan traveler.

This is one place I selfishly hesitate in writing such a good review because I don't want it to be overrun constantly with people, like us, making it hard to get reservations and spoil the peaceful beauty. It's a treasure! The focus is nature with just the right amount of amenities for different comfort levels, but this is not thankfully a resort that is designed to entertain you. It has "hidden treasures" if you're willing to explore around the area. To truly get the most out of the area, a canoe or kayak is recommended but I'm not going to give away where the treasures are ;)... The park does offer water craft rentals from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Happy clean camping!

We enjoyed our couple days at Cheraw State Park. The campground is somewhat small with dirt roads and only a hand full of waterfront sites but mostly level and includes a small boat ramp. This area is separate from the day use and golf course parts of the park which is up the road a little further. They have a nice board walk that goes from the day use to the spill way. You can then cross the spillway to the boat ramp and campground. The day use area includes a nice playground, small swimming area with a beach, picnic tables and shelters as well as a hiking trail and golf clubhouse. The short trail version is a peaceful walk through the pine forest. The longer option goes to the backside of Lake Juniper with a viewing area. The swimming area gets pretty crowded in the afternoons. Fair warning... Some peeps get a little rowdy here as we witnessed two groups get escorted out on separate occasions but the park staff handled themselves well. The park and facilities are clean and well maintained.

Lots to do here! Was perfect for a quick day trip. Swimming, playground, canoes, kayaks, paddleboarding, full 18 holes of golf... hiking! We had a great time. Took a walk down the boardwalk along the lake and back just a mile round trip! Very easy stroll! We had some snacks and then hit the swimming hole!

Nice little state park. We had planned on renting a John boat when we got there to go fishing, but they only had one and it was out of commission due to a leak. That was a little disappointing. We did some fishing from the shore but had no luck. I would love to return and go kayaking to do a little more exploring. There was a small camp store, a small playground, and a beach area for swimming. We did not drive through the campground. The swings around the lake were nice.

The state park was very pretty. Most pine cones on the ground I've seen in my whole life. Also, first time I saw the fox squirrel. Very nice facilities. Lots of outdoor eating by the lake and swimming area. This was a great place to stop as we were road tripping for a beautiful break.

Way better than we even thought it would be! The lake is much bigger than it looks on the map. The road to the nature trail could use some work, but otherwise a really good park. Make sure you bring leveling blocks if you bring your RV. Sites aren't the most level.

Swimming beach wad nice, boardwalk was wonderful, the picnic shelters were great, the water was so blue, and the smell of pines was relaxing. I wish we would've been able to rent kayaks. Hopefully after COVID relaxes, the boat rentals will resume.
