What clients say about Gravity Hill in New Paris (PA)

At Gravity Hill, physics seemed to break. I parked my car at the marked spot, put it in neutral, and watched in disbelief as it rolled uphill. My skin prickled — it felt like magic. Locals say it’s an optical illusion caused by the landscape’s slope, but standing there, watching my car defy gravity, I couldn’t shake the uncanny feeling. A must-stop for road‑trip oddities

The trick is on you - if you start at the marker on the street it is a down hill grade, of course the car will roll forward in neutral. The ride was enjoyable.

The road is marked it says start and end. We put the car in neutral and it went “uphill backwards.” Yes we know it’s just an optical illusion, but it’s really neat.

A little out of the way to try and experience something a little out of wack!! I'm glad I could say I went there.

Cool place to visit! I found it a hoot putting the car in neutral and car being pulled backwards up the hill.

It was an amazing experience letting the car get pulled uphill!! Definitely worth the experience!! I recommend it!!

This place is exactly as it was described to us. Due to how the hill sits and the trees around it grew, it definitely appears like your car goes uphill when it is parked in neutral. It was a cool place to visit and test the theories about a ball or a vehicle going uphill there

Something happened. Then something did not happen. I have to admit it was fun to try and will probably try it again.

It was amazing! we put the rig in N and it rolled! 100% believe in gravity and hills now. A must see if you are ever close!

Don't expect too much from this, but there was starting and ending points spray painted on the road. We put the car in neutral, and our car did go up the hill. It is pretty neat, but this is a very short visit which didn't have a lot of room to turn around. Also, you need to watch out for the local animals that were near the road. It's close to the flight 93 memorial so you can do both in the same trip.

Gravity Hill is just a few miles from my hometown. It's a neat place to take people who don't know about it.

Place is interesting. Can hit 8 mph in neutral on what appears to be a level road. However there are no signs to help. We came up backwards I guess because it didn’t work. We turned around and found d spray paint on the ground saying start and end. Very cool but would love to see the town put up signs or something. But a cool little stop.

It wasn't real thrilling. The markings on the road weren't visible. Took all but 3 minutes. Out on an old back road. No internet service. Not another soul around.

Good luck on finding it.! There’s no mark or signs once you are on the back road. It eventually turns into a dirt gravel road that’s real steep. The state put to sign up, but there’s no way of finding words really at. Was disappointed in a waste of time.

Remembered going here a long time ago. It is still cool. A local was so nice to stop and point out the start area. Pair this with a stop at the Flight 93 memorial.

A beautiful ? drive from the Flight 93 memorial through and around the mountains. When we arrived there is no real instruction but I had seen the marking on the road from others photos. You drive to the start line, out your car in neutral and prepare to be amazed. It was a fun experience, but my brakes were slightly smoking from all the braking going down hills and my kids were freaked out by the smell. Would have enjoyed another run if they were not so feisty.

We put our vehicle in neutral by the 69 pole, and sure enough, we seemed to be rolling uphill. We had a hard time figuring out the turn around, but appreciated that one of the neighbors has a sign saying it's ok to politely turn around there. Overall it was a short, fun way to check out a silly, erie, sciencey feature in the area. We learned about Gravity Hill when checking out the Giant Quater on the Lincoln Highway (the golf course has an 'area attractions' fliers rack).

A great roadside attraction to visit! Gravity Hill...a certain point on this hill was discovered where balls roll up hill, water streams uphill and cars roll uphill! Just an amazing find that you and the kids will be amazed to see!

Pretty cool attraction and fun for smaller kids to experience too! I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars just due to the lack of signage or actual information regarding how to get there but overall it’s a cool, short lived, but fun thing to do if you’re around.

What a trip! I mean the one that makes you head spin and your mind go wild! But it was also a great, beautiful ride (trip) to get here. Definitely a worthwhile stop on the way to or from the Flight 93 Memorial,or the Old Bradford Village. I saw a car drive through, turn around, drive through again and leave. Probably disappointed. Do your research... Stop at the GH Start sign facing the opposite direction of the arrow. Now you should feel like you're facing downhill. Put the car in neutral and feel your jaw drop. The vehicle will actually speed up backwards significantly, going (what feels like) UPHILL! Watch my video! Bring a bottle of water (or three) and a ball to further blow your mind!

Fun stop and it really works. Alittle hard to find as the start and end have worn off the road.

It's a shame my children don't appreciate science or strange phenomenon the way I do?. It really is cool, but definitely not the twist and turns of the road leading up to it. I got car sick. My children were not impressed...lol. Gabe, " the best things in life are not free ?. " This is a really bad dad joke", Holly. So on that note, worth coming! It really does work, and if your not impressed, you can drive through near by Schellsburg and see if you can find the creepy mannequin displays.

UNIQUE!!! Ask a physics teacher about this phenomenon! Oh, the hardest was finding the Gravity Hill sign! Because, if you're looking ? for the Bethel Hollow Rd road sign, it isn't along the road on Rt 96 south out of the town of New Paris. Rather, there is a Gravity Hill sign, but it is facing traffic coming 96 north into New Paris from the south side. So, you're likely to pass the road right by and will need to turn around to head back towards New Paris. If you have a little patience and put your wits to finding this destination it is definitely worth your time and curiosity! Follow directions regarding Gravity Hill (refer to top paragraph as shown in the picture I posted). ? I have included some pictures to help guide you a little. Also, there's a second Gravity Hill experience just down the road about .3 miles from the first. Just look for pole 69 on the right side of the road. Of course, the number is missing, but pole 68 is labeled so the next pole is #69.

The car rolled up hill. No s#@$. There is a glitch in the matrix or a worm hole. Very cool quick stop on the way to the Flight 93 memorial.

It's been a while since I've been there but I visited the place several times a year for maybe 10 years. The illusion has faded considerably, but in the 70's and 80's, it was pretty neat. Everyone does the 'car thing' getting it to roll uphill in neutral, but we used to take basketballs and roll them 'downhill', only to watch them slow down, stop, and then roll back 'uphill' towards us. We also used to pee on the road just to watch it run uphill. Fun times.

Went with my brother as we traveled through PA. I have heard of places like this many times. It was a reasonable distance off the highway (around 20-25 minutes). Given there isn't much reason to be in this area otherwise, it was a must-see and do. My brother was really skeptical. Once we put the car in neutral and started rolling up hill, though, he smiled and laughed - all skepticism was gone. It is a pretty cool optical illusion.

We drove there twice and none of the six of us had the impression of driving up while driving down or the other way around. We even tried neutral as instructed. We're puzzled why there would be handouts at the tourist information. Absolutely not worth the 30 minute drive from the old Bedford village. It doesn't seem to be a tourist thing either because there is no bar or restaurant that would turn this into a pun of sorts.
