Make sure you have $6 in in exact change. Our dog has Spleen cancer. We took him here to make sure he had some joy in his last days. I wish we had a wagon for a walk. Maybe we will have time before he passes to come back and walk him in a wagon. He enjoyed watching the people go by in kayaks.
My friends made reservations to camp there, as they have previously, and what a disappointment! They did not have a portable outhouse, so we had to walk from one side of the campground to the other side...REALLY? The elderly couple was nice, but they didn't do much as the bathrooms were in a state of disrepair. But then they had to shut the water off due to scientific issues. To top it off, a heat warning was in effect; however, it EXPIRED at a certain time, but they would not let us have a fire in the pit. It was just wrong! My friends should get a refund for the errors on the park's part, as they had paid for full service. Thank God I was only visiting, for I was not impressed with the services. Maybe close the campground down and get the area upgraded, ready for actual camping.
No dump station for RV's?
Nice spot but really close to the highway. Honestly, the county should maintain this park & re-open the RV dump station and the roads are more pot holes than pavement.
No water & no dump station but still full price. The camp hosts are extremely kind & gracious, always friendly and helpful. A couple of the sweetest, kindest people I've ever met.
This is an amazing and beautiful campground. I have to say the bathrooms are not the cleanest and are old and not taken care of but t I can’t help but love the location and camp sites.
5 stars IF the restrooms were clean and secured (stall walls are falling apart).
I do NOT recommend this place at all!!!!! My family stayed here and we came up to visit. The tent sites are not flat and there is minimal shade. Not to mention how dry everything is! The park host was the WORST!!!! He helped himself into our site and started demanding my mother in law to move her things because she was in someone else's site, even though there are no markers showing which site, fire pit or picnic table is which. When we asked how to determine if we were within our site boundaries, he started arguing with us and speaking down to us, as we were 2 year olds! The complete rudeness and disrespect from the PARK HOST was UNACCEPTABLE!!!! First of all, mark out your sites so there is no confusion! Secondly, there is a much nicer way of approaching paying customers, just trying to enjoy some outdoor family time! I will NEVER visit here again, nor ever stay here!!! I will also tell everyone I know because it was THAT BAD!!!!!
It's always beautiful out here. We come here every season, and enjoy the forrest droppings we find. Leaves, pinecones, acorns, holly, mistletoe and lichen. And look at the size of this mushroom (not edible)!
Beautiful and serene, road noise was obnoxious but tolerable. Saw a huge group of people that showed up on the bank of the river next to us, did a baptism and went on their way. Definitely a unique experience!
Adequate campground *if* you want to be *specifically* along this stretch of the river. It’s more like camping in a park than a campground — and not all spots are created equal; you might be chasing the shade a lot and if your neighbors don’t observe quiet hours (10p-7am), it’s pretty close quarters, so you’ll be hearing them. … Some sites have 20amp (30amp for RVs) electric pedestals and water. … You’ll be hearing road noise day and night and they water the weeds here… I recommend other campgrounds.
The host was great, we camped by the river, it is close to the road so there may be some ahem, loud cars that drive by lol. The campground is kept clean, there is a boat ramp, shower. The camp ground is small and that is nice and not crowded. There is a playground in the middle of the campground for littles. Will be back.
Surprisingly, the park was not overcrowded even though it was Memorial Weekend. The park was clean as well as were the bathrooms. We had our dog with us, and we were able to walk her as long as we kept her on a leash
My 7 year old granddaughter had fun in the kid's play area. There were slids, climbing walls, and monkey bars. There were multiple picnic areas as well as firepits. The boat ramp was easy access, and it was grooved to make for solid traction.
Rogue Elk is a good getaway for families with kids, theres a playground, fishing, swimming hole, and a nice grassy area for fun and games. If your into rafting then it's a great place to end a short run down the river about 3 miles from the hatchery near McGregor park.
The campground was decent. A lot of highway noise. Definitely not the place to go if you like quiet solitude. Though it is right on the river, which is beautiful.
My main complaint was with one of the campground hosts. The first host we dealt with early in the week was fabulous. Kind, considerate, cheerful, and hardworking. Toward the end of the week, I guess there was a shift change and Mr. Nice Host was replaced with Mr. Grumpy Mean Face. (I don’t know their names, but Mr. Grumpy had a white beard.)
He pretty much harassed my friend and made one of the kindest, sweetest people on earth cry. CRY. My friends came up just for the day, and parked at our campsite. So yes, we had three cars parked there. But it was just for a couple of hours so we thought it was fine. The mean camp host came over and told my friend to move her car (totally fine, she cooperated completely).
She moved to what she thought was the guest parking. He followed her over in his little golf cart (he needs a flashing light and siren on that thing) and rudely told her no you have to park in the day use area and pay the day use fee like everyone else.Again, she cooperated fully and with an agreeable attitude.
She pulled over to where you fill out the day use permit and pay the fee, which provides a 10 minute parking space. She couldn’t find a pen anywhere in her car so she started to walk to our site (just a few yards away) to see if one of us had a pen.
Well, NOT ON HIS WATCH. He was on to her and her thug shenanigans. He yelled at her that it was 10 minute parking. She told him she was going to get a pen. Nope. If he let her get away with it then he’d have to let everyone! (She’d only been there a few seconds. But I guess when he reads ‘10 minute parking’ he sees ‘loading zone only - subject to tow and 10-15 years in the pokey ’).
Well, my sweet friend who had done nothing but try to cooperate was in tears. What that man didn’t know was that it was a special Mother/Daughter day for us all. We both live with our sweet mommas and help care for them. This was a rare occasion for us all to get away and try to enjoy some nature.
Later we sat at a picnic table at an unoccupied campsite right across from ours to eat our lunch so we could enjoy a view of the river. (It was 11:30 and check-in for the site isn’t until 2). My sweet momma is disabled, so it was perfect. She didn’t have to walk far.
Mr Nasty comes barreling over in his squad car, I mean…golf cart, to ask if we were the party that reserved this site. (Cheeky. He knew we were the three car thugs from across the way.) I said , “Oh we realize this isn’t our site, we just thought we’d eat lunch here since check in isn’t for another couple of hours.” He said, “You can’t sit here.”
-We can’t sit here and enjoy the river for a few minutes?
-No. You can go to the day use area like everyone else.
I’m not sure who hurt him in life, but he doesn’t make camping very fun. Unnecessarily rude. Nothing he asked of us was wrong. But there’s a way to approach people with kindness and understanding, and he hasn’t learned this yet.
Thank you, Mr. Mean Face with the white beard for unnecessarily putting a dark cloud over what was supposed to be a special day. Jackson County Parks and Rec is full of good, kind people, but you’re doing a great job at ruining that.
The camp host Mark is amazing! We enjoyed our stay very much! Clean restrooms, nice clean camp sites! It’s a beautiful place even though it’s got some highway noise; you don’t really notice the noise. Fishing from our site was very fun and nice! We’ll definitely go there a lot!
A comfortable camping spot. Close to a small store (Trail Market) for any quick picks or forgotten items. Bathroom and shower facilities, tent and r.v. camp sites. River and creek access. Good dogs always welcome. And across from a historical site, with a little added spook!
I really enjoy coming here, not just because it's on the Rogue River, but because its a great escape from town without driving hours to get where you can camp and relax... like you drove from far off destinations. You can hear the running river from all camp spots and literally sleep 10 ft from the water in select designated spots. Little bit pricey at 22$ +6$ for any extra cars after the first. But the 25 minute drive from Medford makes that non relevant. Busy right now,but showers and bathrooms available with no waiting. Dumpsters were stinky and full, but understandable with busy demand as of late. Worth it, and p.s..... playground and play area for everyone fo share! ???
Highway is very close to the tent camping so there is some noise. There is river access but it is limited. Access to the creek is much nicer. Great camp host. Tent sites are well placed with plenty of room to stretch. Had a great time! River is a lil fast for swimming but the creek is perfect!
This is a gorgeous park. We a stayed three nights mid-week in March and there were only two other campers. The park is on a point where Elk Creek flows into the Rogue River. Half or more of the campsites are on one of the rivers, so the scenery is gorgeous.
If you walk East through the RV part of the campground you walk past the small day use area and some tent sites. Those tent sites were lovely and spacious and right on the Rogue.
From the end of the tent area you can take a trail that follows the river. We don’t know how far the trail goes; we walked about 1/3 mile. On our short hike we saw a partial skeleton about the size of a medium dog we think. I don’t think it was a dog, but that seemed to be the size. I don’t know what the hunting animal was (coyote?) but it occurred to me we’d not want to leave a dog outside the campsite unattended at night. I’m a city person, so maybe I’m over cautious.
We saw an otter swimming in Elk Creek one afternoon. On the drive to Shady Cove (nearest town) there is an eagle’s nest where we saw an eagle one time.
It wasn’t far to Crater Lake so we drove there one day. Another place we discovered is the Natural Bridge where the Rogue River goes underground for a short distance as it flows through a lava tube. And between the Natural Bridge and Crater Lake was the Rogue Canyon where the Rogue flows through a narrow basalt canyon. At the natural bridge you can take a 3.5 mile hike to another bridge.
The ranger at the campground was friendly and extremely helpful. They don’t have a dump station at this park, so we asked whether there was a nearby park with one. He said he’d check and let us know the next day. And, the following day he stopped by our trailer to let us know there wasn’t a park with a dump station we could use but the Chevron in Shady Cove has one that costs a small fee.
We have a 32’ fifth wheel. The turns in the campground are sometimes tight. Roads in camp have many potholes. The trailer sites have a long pad for the trailer and a short pad adjacent for your truck to park. We felt the sites were nicely spacious. Table and fire pit provided.
Beautiful little park on the Rogue River. I come up here from time to time to come have lunch. Fairly clean well-maintained State Park. Beautiful view of the river great fun look forward to coming back here again.
We dropped in to visit family camped at the park. Nice place with narrow roads but in good repair. Cell reception is ify but you're there to camp and enjoy the water, not play on the computer or phone. Fire pits are great! Spaces sell out so apply early for a space. Enjoy.
Great place on the river. A little tight on the spaces but overall a great stay. Its a little close to the highway so you do hear road traffic but its not horrible
Everything is great, except the bathroom situation. You have to pay quarters for the shower & I'd b happy to that if the showers were worth taking a shower in. No shade, just honestly. Those showers are few and far from new or very clean. The location itself is fun and great for kiddos! Make sure u dont make the same mistake as me and if u bring an RV- make sure ur spot has electrical hook ups!!?♀️
Love this place we always have a great time here and the creek is awesome when rafting for a pitstop. The staff is nice but charging parking for guest just visiting for a couple hours is ridiculous.
Came to visit a freind who is staying there and they ask me to pay a park fee. If you are guest you shouldn't have to pay. If I didnt pay, I would have been asked to leave. And the camp hosts were saying to each other, right in front of me, we just need to get them kicked out. When my friend confronted them, they denied saying that
It's a beautiful spot and would have given a 5 star, but since the hosts are rude, 1 star.
This is important to note, but pretty funny. The road is literally around 100-200 feet from the campsites. Not a lot of foliage to stop road noise. Naturally a lot of locals like to honk their horn when they are driving by in the middle of the night. I would do it too, but I was on the receiving end of their jokes all night. The next day I was tired, but it made a memory for sure.
