Cannot say enough good about this place. It's history and with the exception of one business, it is my favorite place to visit. Thr pottery shop and general store are by far my favorite. I miss the bakery and the owners. None of us care for the new shop but it is what it is. Things change. Everyone should visit this place at least once.

Went to there Fire festival best time ever! You paid $30 you ended up getting a bracelet and then a whole bunch of nuggets and went to each store and handed in a nugget and you got something special. There was food involved drink drinks involved no alcohol and it was a great time. Recommend this for anybody.

We visited for the founders day festival. There were so many vendors and things to do. It was a very pleasant experience, we definitely will come back.

We were in the area to attend the Celtic Festival and happened upon this historic location as we were looking for other things to do in the area. Well, our quick peek turned into a whole afternoon of strolling the shops and learning about one of America's first gold rush locations. The buildings are still in their original build with modern updates but have maintained the antique feel. The shop owners were so pleasant to talk to and we found many treasures during our stroll. Purchases, people and knowledge of local history. A true living museum.

A collection of historic buildings used as cozy shops that sell nick nacks. There's also a park with historic items. The shop owners are very friendly and willing to give you all the information you need. They also sometimes have events like live music. Some of the buildings are private residences, so be careful not to enter. They have clearly marked signs as to which buildings you can enter, so it shouldn't be difficult.

This is such a cool place for a day trip. The little shops in the village are super quaint, but the park itself is also beautiful with some really interesting history.

Ran across this place on a Day Trip Search and Soo glad I did. Amazing history and and a quality little town. Everyone we came across was pleasant, informative and genuinely good folks. We will be going back for the festivities and continuing to explore the history, and there is a lot of it. Definitely recommend for anyone that loves history and good conversation with local folks

This is a small historic village. There are no guided tours. You walk around at your own pace. You can purchase map/book for $4 that tells you about the village from the General Store or read about it online. Most of the buildings are closed like the surveyors shop and post office. Some buildings have small artisan shops like the potter and bakery. You can grab a bite to eat at Mama T's. Some stores are only open certain days and times. My first visit months ago only Mama T's and General Store were open. There is also a small non strenuous hiking trail behind the post office that takes you to the Powderhouse. Follow the signs and stay on the trail as it's surrounded by private property. Everyone I met was very friendly. They have a bluegrass singing in the park on Friday nights. Bring your own lawn chair.

I cant say enough wonderful things about Gold Hill and the Gold Hill Trail. This town has done a wonderful job preserving the remnants of the Gold Hill Mines that began with a gold rush boom in 1824. The hiking trail follows those rails used to transport the excavations to several other historical buildings. A great hike for kids. And yes, you can park next to the ball field.

We enjoyed our time exploring both the town and the rail trail today. A bit muddy, but not too bad. The only negative is the condition of the historical markers. Weathering and sunlight has deteriorated them, making them unreadable.

Bucolic and well preserved, the park is worth to be visited. Has a decent playground for kids....

Gold Hill is truly a fascinating place with a rich history in gold mining. The town today is a true gem to visit featuring many quaint antique and gift shops throughout town. The park itself is a nice visit with old mining relics on display including mills, mine shafts and other mining equipment. You can easily visit all the shops and sites within a few hours. Well worth a stop if you are in the area.

“Gold Hill Rail Trail” - Located in Historic Gold Hill, NC. Partnered with the Carolina Thread Trail, there are two trails available here for family hikes. One behind “Mauney’s Little House of Antiques” and the other located at 440 St. Stephen’s Church Road. The trail located at 440 St. Stephen’s Church Road is a tour of the Historic Mines of the 1800’s Gold Rush. The other is across the road that crosses 2 local highways bordering private land. You are reminded to stay on the trail. This trail is fairly marked but pay attention as you can easily veer onto private land. Nice opportunity to discover local history and slow things down just a little. The shops are open from Wednesday to Sunday but check before you head out. Spend the night at one of the two Bed & Breakfasts in town. I visited on a Monday so I didn’t have a chance to dine at Mama T’s or shop at any of the local shoppes. A fairly easy hike and great opportunity to experience some interesting history ... a worthy family destination. HistoricGoldHill.Org

We had a family reunion/ gathering on Sunday. This Park offers a nice air Condition building to rent for parties. They have rest rooms close by also. It was very large and convenient for our family to use. We have been using it for several years now.

It's a neat little place and really beautiful location. We came here to have my daughters pictures done and I was not at all disappointed with anything I saw with this place. I plan on going back and exploring it way more in depth.

Not much to see our do here (our visit was mid day Tuesday). There is what appears to be old stones used as part of the mining, but there were not much in the way of informational signs. You can walk down some stairs and look into the entry of a mine, but there isn't much to see in the dark. If you walk across the road there is a few buildings and behind that a fenced in area that was a shaft at one point but now just looks like a whole with water. Still, a good place to stretch your legs a little if you are traveling with a small playground for children.

A old small town makes beautiful pictures. The park is named after a mine. Very beautiful park and town.
