I have been an Unlimited Towing customer of Boat U.S./Boat U.S. for 11 years.
Yesterday my boat would not start at the dock.

I called Boat U.S.
1. Chris answered.
2. I asked “Can you send Boat U.S. to try a jump start?(One of the benefits listed on my membership below). If that doesn’t work, can you tow me to my service dock?” Unlimited Towing membership.
3. After answering a lot of questions from Chris, I repeated my jump start/tow question
4. He told me because I guessed battery “it is an electrical - not mechanical problem” and is not covered. I told Chris “I am not a mechanic. And certainly not qualified to diagnose engine problems. He told me he would send me an invoice that had to be paid before BOAT U.S. will come. I asked to speak to his supervisor. Chris said “She will tell you the same thing I did.” I was on hold for about 22 minutes.
5. Supervisor Karen/Boat U.S answered. Karen was patient as I explained I was an 11 year customer and needed assistance.
6. Then Karen read me the fine print that restricts towing and jump starts if you are docked at your home dock. If you were 25 miles offshore, you would not be charged extra for towing or jump start.
7. Later, I received a text from Boat U.S. saying it will cost $350 an hour for towing to a repair dock. I assume, the same rate of $350/hr. for a jump start.
BOAT U.S. says they are a “community for boaters” yet advertise “UNLIMITED TOWING INSURANCE” and no cost to you JUMP STARTS. insurance is limited by hidden asterisk restrictions* especially when you need it.
HINT: “Unclick automatically renew”. This way you have a choice if BOAT U.S. reduces benefits by hiding it in the fine print while increasing costs to you.
Forgot to fill tank before leaving the dock and boat ran out of Gas on the New River. Alex from Boat US towing responded on a very timely manner and towed us to NewRiver Marina. He was. Very professional, understanding and ready to help. I am about to retire and remade me want to work with a group like this. He explained what I neded first and I beleive I may pursue this when I mive back to the area.Hats off to Alex for rescuing the day
Thank you to the entire TowBoatUS team in Wilmington! They rescued our 22.5 center console after it was abandoned on Masonboro Island (a neighbor had borrowed it). It took three attempts because of the weather and rough seas, but they were successful. Throughout the entire process, Brooks and his team were professional, provided regular updates, and explained the retrieval process. Their approach and communication helped us handle an extremely stressful, unexpected, and overwhelming situation. We are so thankful and give TowBoatUS our highest recommendation. If you have a boat in the greater Wilmington area, make sure you are a TowBoatUS member!
Hats off to Captain Tom Morgan - he saved me from being swept out to sea at Rich’s Inlet today. Went out for a ride on a beautiful day and ran afoul of the new sandbars piled up on the inside of the inlet. The outgoing tide swept me deeper into the inlet & closer to the breakers along the beach. Luckily Capt Tom arrived and pulled me off the bar!!!
A real lifesaver!!! Great seamanship!!!!
In late October I was single-handing my TaShing Baba 35 southbound from Mile Hammock Bay. I had been running all day to reach an anchorage behind Wrightsville Beach. As I passed through the Wrightsville bridge at 7:00 p.m., darkness fell, seriously handicapping my 70-year-old eyes. Nevertheless I pressed on slowly, guided by my chartplotter. Turning to port into Shinn Creek, I soon became disoriented as the current pushed me in an unfavorable direction. I grounded hard near the "WC" junction marker. Amazingly, Towboat arrived in 20 minutes. Captain Matt, I believe it was, worked hard, using his prop wash to dig my keel out of the creek bottom. He then towed me to the anchorage in Banks Channel I had been making for, and didn't leave me until I had dropped the hook. I can't commend Captain Matt and the Wrightsville Beach TowboatUS folks highly enough. Many thanks to you, and well done.

After 8-years of boat ownership … it finally happened yesterday. I needed a Tow home off the coast of Wrightsville Beach after fishing for Spanish Mackerel. Joe the boat Captain who was dispatched from TowBoat U.S. arrived quickly and exactly at the time communicated (in scheduling the haul). He was extremely competent at pulling alongside and hitching my boat up. Joe safely navigated the inlet, ICW and dropped me back at my home dock. A great customer outcome … accurate/quick dispatching, a safe tow operation and a friendly/service-focused Captain.
