I never thought I would ever encounter such horrible things! They discarded and trashed my daughter’s property including the passport and birth certificate! They didn’t even call me before doing so! If only I knew, I would have acted right away but now, not only that we lost important documents, all of the other important things are missing too!
Before I start, I'd like to say that I know this probably comes off as someone who's just bitter that they lost their car. The truth is, I AM bitter, but mostly because I did everything I was supposed to do, and Hickory Auto Recovery refused to work with me at all. I'd give this place zero stars if I could, just for the lack of professionalism. They showed up with their truck at 9pm, long after business hours even if it wasn't a weekend. They started hitching and making a racket before their halfhearted knocks at the door. Told me they wouldn't take it off the hook unless they got a call from my creditor. Which is impossible, since it's 9pm on a Sunday. I asked to speak to the "boss", Chris, who was very rude on the phone. He basically told me that I didn't get an explanation or any courtesy, I just had to get my stuff out of the vehicle. He told me I could get my car in the morning after I "squared up" (even though I'd already made the payment), and when asked how I was supposed to get there, he suggested I call Enterprise. I guess he thinks we're all just made of money (then again, towing away people's cars in the dead of night is probably very lucrative). Then I found out they're taking my vehicle some 80 miles away, which makes it even more of a hardship. I asked if they could wait until the morning, so that I had a chance to call the creditor, and they gave me the semi-polite equivalent of an F-U. So glad that Chris and his employees can sleep at night knowing that they're putting other people at risk of joblessness and homelessness, without even trying to offer a bit of grace. No company like this should be allowed to operate after normal business hours (9a-5p, Monday-Friday) when the "debtor's" only recourse is to contact the creditors (who most certainly don't operate from 3p to 1a).

Never thought I'd run into these guys again, pervailing evil really is real. Back in 2010 I got pulled over in Hickory for expired insurance which I had already paid. The sheriff and his deputy shook me down and refused to accept phone confirmation and insited I had to have my car towed to Hickory Auto Recovery, and there were no other options. When I protested that wasn't legal they threatened arrest for resisting law enforcement. I complied after that, not wanting any extra issues. The "tow man" laughed anout the situation and charged $500 for the service, but was happy to drive me to the bank to collect cash, and was promised I could pick my vehicle up in the morning. I called back in the morning and was told I didn't pay the "release fee" and had to pay and additional $500.
Years later and the reason I'm even bothering to write this review, I ran into one of these drivers as far out as Matthews NC looking to vulture some cars. The tow driver was clearly drunk, cutting people off, hitting our new bushes (I'm now working in property management), so when I called the number on the side of the cab, "Chris" answered and I described the vehicle in question and what happened, he hung up and blocked my number. Note: I was only calling to report aims potential liability for his company.
Bear in mind I didn't write this review until hours later when I put two and two together and realized I've had more than one messed up encounter with this company.. I'm a Buddhist, and when I say the Devil is real, it's Hickory Auto Recovery.
These folks came to my house on 12/18 saying they were doing a field call and needed updated information , I gave them phone numbers and they clearly had my address and ask what the visit was about , at 8:15 after dark , to this date no one has given me a reason for the visit , a loan due 12/15 was paid off completely 12/19 the entire amount and they show up again trolling and cyberstalking 12/28 still identifying as repo men , their words ! No idea what they plan to repo and when asked they don’t know , while having a 3 way conversation with the owner Chris and the credit union he was informed 10 days prior to his field calls that the loan was paid off yet he still sent repo men to every address I’ve lived at remind you , one business day late and the entire loan was paid off the following day and he still was harassing ! I guess his go to move is to hang up based on his reviews because I imagine he’s a coward ! If you know him let him know what I think because I still want to know why he is stalking my girlfriend ! I really wanna know why ?
This business is operated by the devil they have no concern about the way their crooked business affects people.
They stole my gun and my change in the truck and almost laughed when I asked about it. I will be okay but stealing things out of a car can have such a negative effect on someone and they sleep fine. They steal your car and charge crazy money to get it back
I don't understand why local law enforcement has not stopped them

Shady company ex-boyfriend from a year ago put my address down to this company they showed up at my house when I have no trespassing signs up claiming to be doing a courtesy follow up but they have never been to my house before so I don't see how that could have been a courtesy follow-up. I'd stay away from this place it does all kinds of illegal activities claiming to be certified.
This place was truly brilliant. I wish I give a 6th star, I don't know where to begin. Amazing service from the owner Chris a real honest guy and treated me like family. Keep up the good work guys.
This is one of the most legit businesses I’ve ever seen. The customer service is incredible and the way that they treat you makes you feel like royalty
I wish I could give no stars! Where do I begin. Grabbed my car off private property didn’t check my VIN! Now to the good part, Tried to steal my Michael Kors wallet. Stole my Cirkul Water bottle stole my phone holder and stole money out my vehicle. The staff is very disrespectful! The owner Chris is disgusting and unprofessional. I want my money and the money for the things that was stolen out my car. You will be hearing from me again.
Which I could give negative stars too. They had the wrong information. Came to our house after dark. We have no trespassing signs so that is against the law. No officers were present with them. When trying to call the owner to talk to him he hangs up on me and now will not return our calls. They were in the wrong coming to our location and trespassing after dark. Very alarming, rude and unprofessional. Terrible place of business! All we asked for was communication in helping us understand and get more information on how they got our information this day in time you can just pull up to someone's house after dark especially when we're the only house on our road. They were in the wrong and won't be professional and talk to us. Terrible service!

Called cause I have a repo company trying to more or less steal my car that I own outright and will not talk to me. Name is Chris. Only thing he will say is call my dealer but I own my car outright.
I wished I could give them a negative star. When dealing with this place I was nice and then the guy Chris had the nerve to tell me I was lying when I had proof. Then he had the nerve to hang up on me because he didn't want to hear the truth. They need all new people and need the BBB called on them there should not be a company in business ran like this. This place needs to be sued.
Do not use this company if I could put zero stars I would, they have terrible customer service they hung up the phone on my wife and overcharged what was on the paperwork I called back to ask about getting the money back and was told that he was not dealing with me and said the extra charge was for after hour service which on their website it says 24 hour service he then hung up on me.I will be telling everyone I can about their unprofessionalism and horrible customer service especially to a Army soldier who has served his country on 4 combat deployments.
Very unprofessional, laxed equipment, if they go bye you give them a big birth as they don't use remote directional bar on what they tow. You won't know until they change lanes that they're moving over infront of you. SCARY
