These guys work hard. The other day, one of my friends had a counter that served 279 people by 11am. Sometimes you might not understand. Trucks come to haul the containers away. The workers can't hold them up. So if he is telling you it is full, or to hurry up. It's probably because the driver had radio or called them to pick up a container. As the metal bin, it can be 1/2 empty. It doesn't matter; they will rotate and be removed at times anyway. These guys make $9.00 an hour. They work hard, be patient with them. They do an awesome job.
Been using the recycling center for over 20 years. The population in this area has grown a lot. The stress in the system and the workers is obvious. Be courtious and prepare for your trip. Separate your recycling at home and break down your cardboard at home. We all need to use the center and waiting for folks to do these things while clogging up the system is unnecessary.
Called to check to see if I can dump my trash there the man gave me the hours and the cost to buy a garbcard. I get there on Sunday with my small U-Haul truck, a few cars were in front and they just drove in parked and started taking stuff off. The man comes to my truck and says what do you have I said just stuff from my building, nothing to much no furniture just bags of stuff laying around. I.e old shoes, old buckets, old tools kitchen ware. So he immediately says no room, mind you there are dozens of cars, trucks with trailers unloading their truck, then I asked him there is space right there he immediately starts yelling NO ROOM so this pissed me off so I sat right there until I found a place to take my trash. As I was sitting there, another man came over and asked what I have I told him the same thing and I said I’m seeing a lot of people still pulling up and dumping there stuff why don’t you have room for mine, he said I dont know why he told you, I said well could I get some stuff off and he said “I just have to go by what the other man said” but he was a little helpful with giving me another place to call. So I sat there and called the other places along with others, so the first guy comes back over and said I’m blocking others from coming in, well hello, 7 cars pulled in and dumped they stuff while me sitting there, I wasn’t blocking anyone, I asked him again why is it that people are steady coming and dumping but you have no room for me. And again he yelled NO room, so I rolled up my window and continued to sit there about (7min) until I found a place. This old man was rude and unpleasant. I really want to say he was a little racist. Just by the interactions he was giving me. I Will never go there again. He really needs to check his attitude.
I've been using this dump for almost 5 years and never had a problem. The guy who works there always comes over to my truck when I am dropping stuff off. Weird. So today, I have brought a few things, such as a small metal frame, used motor oil and a lightweight TV. I'm getting into my truck to leave and the guy says, "That will be $4." I'm like "What?" and he repeats himself and says something about a Garbcard. Being in a hurry, my wife hands me a $5 bill, I hand it to him and we are on our way. After a quick online search, there is indeed a "Garbcard" in existence but, as stated on the Gaston County website: "Cash is not accepted for disposal at the recycling centers." So I figure having never purchased a "Garbcard" and using the dump for 5 years, that's about $1 per year so not a bad deal. Also, I will review the list online of waste that requires a charge and make sure that I use my every 3 month Bulk Pick-up on the curb in-front of my house for those items. Used motor oil will still be dropped off at the Gaston County Recycling Center though.
To the man in the santa cruise truck who was getting ready to close today.... i had 2 cardboard boxes and 2 bags of trash and a styrofoam box. I got there 10 minutes before closing, it took me less than 2 minutes to unload. A simple mam if you could be quick we would greatly appreciate it, would have been much better than 1. Honking at me and 2. Telling me "well hurry up" . Lose the attitude. You dont close til 5:30. Had i had a trailor full i would understand wanting me to hurry . I had very little. You are not ruining my new year with your attitude, do better.
Used to be a good and honest place. You go buy 4 and 8 dollar (garb cards) from any local store nearby then take your trash and other items to be disposed of. But my last trip I had a truck and small trailer full and instead of being the same $8 card the man working there goes on and says it would be a additional $5 for the same load as I always bring. So I get ready to go back to the store for another garb card and he says put $5 on the truck and walk away. This place supposed to accept garb cards only NOT CASH. It all over gaston county website no cash and I feel the retired gentleman is pulling one over on people just to make himself some more pocket money. I have been going there for YEARS and I'll never go back here again after feeling robbed from this dishonest man. Shame on the county for letting this happen right under their own nose.
You need a garbage card which costs 4$ to drop off any item at this place. Without that card they won't accept your items to dump or throw for recycling. They don't sell those cards at the location, you need to purchase them from the nearest place called "Byrum's Grocery & Grill" located just 2 minutes drive from this location. And the bryum's is open only until 2pm.
Staff is very helpful. The actual terrain is awkward due to being in the side of a hill.
Also the bin arrangement leads to congestion quickly.
That said, any place allowing an opportunity to be responsible with disposal materials is 3 stars automatically.
I don’t write reviews much but i will have to say of all the county owned and privately owned places I deal with, this group always has the nicest and friendliest people to deal with. Every time I call or visit, every one I have met has been pleasure to meet. The recycle centers and the landfill are staffed with awesome folks and I just want to send them a big THANK YOU!!
Friendly and inexpensive trash disposal. Just be sure to pick up a "Garb Card" since they don't accept cash. A card is $4 and will cover around 10 bags of trash.
