Flat tire after 10 pm on a Sunday night. I was visiting my parents, so my car was in their driveway. Parents knew of Sal’s Service Center and called to see if someone could come over to change the tire. Bob arrived promptly. He was helpful in advising me how to find model of tire (he had me take photos) and how to compare prices, etc. very quick service. Personable man. I drove safely home.

In order to get our Tesla registered in NYS, we needed to get our car inspected for the insurance company. My wife called Sal's Service Center and they originally told her "Rain or Shine" and that all they would have to do is inspect it for damages and to just have the car clean for pictures. And they said there was no need for an appointment and to just call 10 minutes ahead of time. Because we both work 9-5 jobs, I had to go there on Saturday. I arrived walked in and asked them if they are able to do the inspection and I informed them that my wife called previously about this. There were two men behind the counter, they both turned and looked at me like I had 5 heads. Extremely unwelcoming, and just based off that look I knew this was going to be an issue. The first guy said, "Well do you have an appointment". I explained to him that my wife called earlier in the week and whoever she spoke to informed her that an appointment was not needed for this type of service, since it requires about 5.5 mins of their time to take 3 pictures of my car. And that the person she spoke to told her to simply call 10 minutes ahead and that will be sufficient. Mind you I was running errands and completely forgot to call ahead of time, but I informed them I didnt mind waiting for around until they were available to spare a few minutes for my car. The second guy in the back, again started giving me attitude and said "No" like it was out of the question and preposterous that I was even asking them if they could do this service for me. His reason was that "we have to take pictures of your car so it can't be raining or snowing outside". Mind you it was the clearest sunniest day its been in about 2 weeks. The sky was clear with not a cloud in sight. I looked outside and replied, "But its not raining or snowing and its a clear to the point where it definitely wont effect your pictures." The 2nd guy replied, "Well its cold outside. I am not going to stand over your car in 17 degree weather just to take pictures for you." At that point I knew these guys weren't going to honor what they said over the phone, so I just walked out. But because of that my 7 month pregnant wife had to call in sick that Monday to drive the car to a different shop that was nice enough to do the inspection for us. She informed me that all they did was literally take 3 pictures of the car and it took about 2 and a half minutes, probably closer to a minute flat. I truly hope this was just a fluke and these guys aren't like this with everyone, but judging by the way I was treated, I sincerely doubt it. I will never be going back to this place for any type of service and would urge against anyone doing the same.

I highly recommend Sal's service if you want excellent and prompt service at reasonable prices. My car needed extensive maintenance checkup and they did it all at a reasonable cost.

I bring all my cars to Sal’s and have since it was a service station and they pumped gas. They have ALWAYS been more than fair in their pricing. They have gone out of their way to help me and my family when changing oil, replacing an engine, or towing a vehicle. Bob is a man of his word and accommodating. Work is done when they say it will be and they stick with tricky situations until the work is done properly. As an example, I had a car overheat in New Hampshire and the dealership up there did not fix the problem and so the engine overheated until it needed to be replaced. The dealership wanted $9000 for the job (on a car worth less than $2000) so I had it towed to Sal’s. He replaced the engine for a third of the price and made sure it is safe enough for my kids to use. Sal’s is a small-town gem!

I have only ever had good experiences here, and I agree with the ladies that say in their that it is a mechanic that doesn’t try to rip you off! Everything is logic and explained into the smallest detail. Took my car there for a noise in the wheel another garage said had to be fixed. Quoted competitively but after a test ride they ended up not doing anything as they said nothing was broken. They were right!!!

Well let's see they towed my car from less than 3 miles away had it for less than 3 hours and told me 350 dollars In Cash , on top of Stealing my Compressor yes you read that right they worked on my car prior to this and stole ,, ROBBED My Compressor when they had to " by pass " the air conditioning system to make a Repair, a repair that involved My compressor,, being it was winter the air conditioning obviously wasn't being used till a few months later Down The Road and upon being serviced by a Chevrolet Dealer the Chevrolet Specialist asked where my compressor was , quite dumbfounded and stunned i was shown by the specialist where the compressor used to be, he asked me what was done to the car I showed him the receipt for "bypassing the air conditioning system " upon reading he knew immediately because of the year make and model and that my air conditioning was ice cold on the lowest setting it was very valuable, worth alot of money, this most likely in all Probability removing it knowing fully the ' customer ' ( PAST TENSE) Would not b using it anytime soon thus not even knowing it was gone till many months later ,, also the Fact that they were dealing with a woman that didnt know any better that they were KNOWN FOR AND COULD TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF, which THEY DID , the Chevrolet Mechanic called them out on it , DENIED LIED MADE UP STORY UHHHHH IDK WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT LYING THRU HIS CROOKED TEETH , , Okay , upon getting my car back less than 3 Miles away less than 3 hours they had the vehicle in "storage " my whole rear right side bumper was completely Smashed in Cracked and Broken , I asked how it was towed, truck or flatbed, Flatbedded from down the block and as far as specialist can tell it was backed down the flatbed letting it smash into the ground sustaining the damage that a hard hit to the pavement would cause , all broken twisted cracked is the bumper and the surrounding metal, pictures were taken by myself , A Chevrolet Dealer and it all points to the car ( SUV) was just let go from the chains to hit the ground , smash into the ground more accurate , ALOT more can B Said about this Unscrupulous Unprofessional bunch of Thiefs Liars Butchers and just FLAT OUT CROOKS, so anyone and everyone except maybe the locals,, If your looking to get robbed lied to taken advantage of and ROYALLY RIPPED OFF by all means take your Vehicle to Sals Auto body Rt. 35 Cross River Ny , They get the Job Done 🔨🛠 everything written is fully documented from pictures to conversations , Women out there ,, We R Their BEST PREY

My car engine seized on 684. The dispatcher stated the tow driver will call me shortly. I received a call from the driver and he arrived in 20 mins, which was the ETA he told me over the phone. While waiting I also received a text message from the dispatcher making sure the tow truck driver called me and was enroute to my location. They towed my car to the mechanic of my choice, which was not local. I appreciated it especially with the inflated gas prices. 5 stars all day.

This place is horrible, my family was ripped off, overcharged and taken advantage off. People should stay far away from this place they are not honest people. This is the worst experience I have ever had with any shop or tow company REPLY The Newburgh beacon bridge only charges a toll for 1 direction and sals charged me as if there was a toll paid for each way. So I was ripped off and charged double, also the driver had no change so I had to pay an extra 6 bucks for that as well. I have proof and receipts

This is by far the worst mecanic and tow shop I have ever been to in my life. I was over charged and ripped off.they took out the compressor for my a.c and did not return it to me. They said nothing about it at all. When they towed my vehicle they charged me over 30 dollars in tolls for a bridge that has a 5 dollar tow. I am taking them to small claims court. Everyone should stay far away from them

Terrible. If your in a jam don't get it towed to here! They are crook's especially when your dealing with your insurance. I had my car towed there in a snow storm. They literally let it sit there for month before saying they couldn't do the work, and get it towed to a different shop all the time incurring 75$ storage fees daily. It ended up costing over 2000$ in storage fees and they did NOTHING to the car. They never even mentioned it or communicated that. This place should definitely be investigated for their practices. Warning to all please think twice before going here even if your in a jam and it's the closest shop. it won't be a good experience

Sal was true to his word. He assured me that he would have my car ready the next day. He told me that he is true to his word and he delivered. He's very reasonable.

I would highly recommend Sal's. These guys were terrific when my transmission went on a Sunday afternoon in 95 degree heat! They went above and beyond for a mom with 7 kids in the van out of state. They really helped me out, and were fair and honest. BUT, took the time on a Sunday night at 9:30 to call and make sure the kids and I had a safe place to stay! Thank you and God bless, Amy

After waiting 3 hours on the side of the road for another tow company, I called Sals and not only was he extremely pleasant on the phone, but he had a tow truck sent to me in under 10 minutes. I was able to cancel the other company that was rude and could not give me an honest wait time. The driver sent was polite, professional and worked quickly. They turned my very bad day into a salvageable Friday night. Grateful for their service and would absolutely use them again.

A+. My family and I have been bringing our many vehicles to Sal’s for over thirty years. Fair pricing, quick service and most importantly outstanding work. I had a flat on my motorcycle and JJ towed my bike home. He was very friendly and extremely professional he knew exactly what he was doing and took great care to make sure it was secured well. I highly recommend Sal’s.

Tom is a true gentleman, enjoyed talking about hunting and fishing with him. This definitely made my trip to the repair shop more comfortable after the frustration of getting a flat tire.

JJ and Tom are great technicians. They towed my very low to the ground Porsche with extreme care and kindness. Very courteous and know their business

Mike and his team at Sal's are top notch. First became aware of them when I had to have my car towed via AAA 10 years ago. Have been coming here since for repairs and inspections and always receive great service. Bring your car here. You'll be taken care of in a fair and professional way.

Female? Hate dealing with auto shops? These guys are the real deal. Trustworthy, fair, and helpful. Not fancy! I've used their services for years now, from drop-ins for tire issues or dashboard lights to whole engine replacement. My too-far-mechanic family members agree, this is the kind of shop you want in your corner.

Professional and courteous. My go to place for repairs and quick inspections. Never had to wait more than 15-20 minutes for a tow. The crew at Sal's are great.

This stellar Mom and Pop business is my absolute favorite place to go when I need servicing or an inspection on my truck. Mike and the gang has gone out of their way to help me, even coming up to dutchess county when my transmission blew up.

I visited this business for an emission test. The man working claimed that the light bulb by the license plate needed replacement after he had “replaced it.” I wondered why he didn't tell me beforehand. Long story short, he charged me an additional $10 more for the light bulb “replacement.” The next day while opening the car trunk I realized that the same light fixture by the license plate was dangling on one end and held together by clear scotch-tape on the other. The light did not work. I called Sal’s immediately thereafter. I recognized the man’s voice on the phone, the same man who worked on the car- I don’t know his name but he is heavy set, tall and Neanderthal-like. He pretended not to remember me. I refreshed his recollection. He finally admitted that "the screw broke" and "I put the tape there,” and that, “no body could see it.” He let me leave that garage with a non-working and improperly installed lite fixture and never informed me about it- in fact the opposite- and charged me for it! That is really what I dealt with when visiting this place. Be very very careful.

Sal's is a fixture in Cross River. They have always been polite, efficient and very helpful. Yes, the garage is old, the service is excellent. The poster that whined about the oldness of the garage would probably be best served some where else.

The simple, quaint elegance of Sal's in Cross River is unparalleled - their craftsmanship and work ethic is second to none, their knowledgeable mechanics are extremely honest and dependable, and their towing equipment is both clean and reliable. Would recommend to all.

Sal's may not be the most antiseptic place around but if you need your car serviced or an inspection done, it is far better than any other place in the area. The people that work there are business like and professional. No BS and no attempt to upsell.

HORRIBLE service. I called to make an appointment on Thursday of last week for Monday of the following week for a NYS inspection and photo inspection for a recently purchased car (required by insurance). This is one of Liberty Mutual's "authorized" shops however when I arrived, I was told quite rudely that they don't make appointments and the guy that could do the inspections was out on a tow job. So I guess they don't care about the customer that called in advance. The place is also disgusting - dirtier than a normal shop would be. It is dilapidated - it looked like part of the building structure was going to collapse. I'm glad my car didn't end up going in there but BEWARE - THIS PLACE STINKS.
