Really well run operation, and the people who work here genuinely want to help guide you through the process. Very unlike other parts of the Town of Brookhaven government, this place works for the people of Brookhaven.

This morning American Waste Garbage Truck picked up one of my Garbage cans and left the small garbage can that wasn’t even full Untouched did not remove the garbage in the can.My Neighbors have complaints about this Driver and his workers.I came out and seen the garbage truck drive away .I got in my truck and asked the worker in the back of the Truck Why he did not remove my garbage .He tells me the small can was to Heavy. My small can wasn’t even full there was nothing Heavy in the can.I also had a garbage bag included in it.I approached the Driverand asked him why his workers did not pick up the garbage. He ignored Me and kept Driving.I called the Town of Brookhaven Waste and made an complaint. She told me to make sure I emailed as well. This is Terrible .They are getting paid without doing their job. This Driver and His workers did makes it bad for all the Hard workers that does their Job.They just don’t care at all.The Truck number is E11 .The truck says American Waste Garbage Services.

Had a question of where I can dispose my propane tank trying to explain my situation and the person hung up on me. Thank you for nothing. All I needed was someone’s help.

Called to see if I could drop off paint...over the phone they said we could...came to the landfill and was denied.... Couldn't even recommend a place to bring it..... It's almost like they want us to do illegal dumping.. Which I won't

Very stressful first experience at the Brookhaven Landfill. I came to dump waste oil. I couldn't find any limit posted online. I just cleaned out my yard and I had about 15 gallons with me as well as many empty containers in my open single axel trailer. When I arrived I was told they had a limit of 10 gallons. I asked if I could dump 10 gallons and take the rest with me, which they agreed to. I pulled 10 gallons out of the trailer and set them on the ground. I started emptying the containers when an employee came over and started taking more containers out of my trailer. I told the employee that they said 10 gallons up front but he repeatedly told me it was fine and not to worry. He was emptying my trailer while I poured my 10 gallons. Sure enough it was not fine, as when I got to the exit they wanted to charge me. They were saying that employee is not a scale operator so whatever he said didn't matter. They withheld my driver license and argued with me. After I had a manager get involved to explain the situation, I was given my licence back. They need better communication between employees, and really that employee who went into my trailer to empty it and say it would all be fine needs to learn the rules of the place he works at. I really was trying to do all the right things and their own employees led me into a trap.

I go every Saturday with miscellaneous yard debris. Everyone is extremely pleasant and helpful.

Usually no problem but I was there with an 84 year old friend getting rid of brush and he had to use the porta potty very badly. BUT there were padlocks in the porta potty. Needless to say he had a very embarrassing accident. Why are there padlocks on porta potties??

Everyone there was very pleasant. The 2 missing stars are for the town. We got flooded and I had to dump some flooring. My lord they charge an awful lot. 200/ton. I kinda figured residents might be able to catch a break. I had a little over 1200lbs. Granted it was still cheaper than a dumpster but for real you'd think tax paying resident ls would a slightly discounted rate when dumping compared to local private companies who after looking online are about $150/ton.

From the time I was greeted at the first booth, to the second booth and then the actual site I needed to dispose of old paint cans—the help was super professional and helpful. I was impressed how pleasant and helpful everyone was. THANKS…

Saturday is the only "free" day for residents to go to the landfill, 7AM to noon. Cars stay to the right when entering. Don't get into the left lane, that's for commercial trucks that have to get weighed. At the booth they tell you where to drive to and then you just throw your debris on the pile. When leaving, go to the right of the trucks that are on line for the exit weighing. You get to drive right out. While dumping your debris, look for the landfill truck with alot of "saved" stuff animals and dolls. Buzz Lightyear stands out.

I have three couches and end tables and a cabinet to get out of the basement to put a smile back on my wife's face. I borrowed a trailer from a neighbor and brought everything to Brookhaven landfill it wasn't quick but it was pretty painless.

It's a landfill. You can bring mostly anything and they take care of it. They have household hazardous waste to drop off cleaners, pesticides, oil based paint, any flammable liquid, areosol cans, acids. They have a company that recycles or treats the waste.

Rude people work here. There’s no organization. And it is assumed you know the process and if you don’t you’re given an attitude even though the process changes. Sometimes they make you weigh the material; Sometimes they don’t. Other times you’re told you have to turn around and go to the scale even though you were allowed to drive through last time without weighing. and then when you get there the scale operator doesn’t even weigh your vehicle. Only civil service businesses can run like this.

The line is not efficient at all. I had 6 hollow doors in an open bed of a truck and was asked to get on the scale. The spotters need to be more thorough communicate on a walkie with the booth if need be. If the load is questionable its understandable. But most loads are not over the 500lbs allowed on Saturday.

Liked how they had different areas for each type of recycling and also for different types of house hold trash

Got in with no problems(free) dumped Used Oil Off. Stay in the Right lane when driving in if you don't have to be weighted.

Poor direction with regard to weighing out after dumping brush on Friday. Inadvertently cut in front of truck and sent back to end of line.

You can bring in almost everything but radioactive material and asbestos material. Drive slow or your vehicle will get dirty.

I can understand limited hours on the wknds, though it is inconvenient for getting any house work done. My biggest gripe is with the break down in communication between the people on site and what we are told the men driving around picking up garbage are responsible for. It is very frustrating to haul everything down to be told the garbage men will pick up what we spent time and energy to drive to the site, bring it back home (as once the pandemic hit, they were charging Saturday’s) and find the garbage men didn’t pick any of it up as we were told they would do by the people at the landfill. We even went through the trouble to make sure the bags weren’t to heavy or unreasonable to life. If you don’t know what the policy is, you should not be giving information out to residence of Suffolk county. Figure out what your policy is please.

Staff was friendly, helpful and kept things very well organized. Thank you when I got on the line I was planning on a 3 hour nightmare by the looks of it and was pleasantly surprised to be in and out in under an hour! You kept it moving and efficient. Thank you!

Unhealthy. The toxic fumes from this place can be smelled as soon as you approach exit 67-68. Something just be done about this!!! Even the local laundromats in the area have that foul smell. I believe traces of leachate have made its way to our groundwater form this place!!! I’m reaching out to the senate about this because this is just unacceptable! You can smell the fumes even with the windows rolled up in the car!!!

The opening hours on Saturday is very inconvenient for us. We had to rush out and get there before it closes at noon. It’s good that they have the trolly available on site, otherwise carrying a heavy load all the way to the back of the trucks container would’ve definitely killed my back. Btw, for electronic wastes, you have to go to the end of the loop. It’s actually near the loop entrance/exit but you got to go around the loop to get there.

I give this particular landfill 5 stars and a standing ovation. I've been a loyal customer for 3 years. All of the staff is warm, welcoming and helpful, to say the LEAST. The views of the highest point from Woodside Avenue are breathtaking, especially in the winter when it's snowing. Another reviewer commented that the hours don't allow for more than one trip, but I simply can't understand how that is possible. Unless you're coming from another state. In that case, I hope you find a closer landfill, although I do understand that you would travel such far distances to use THIS one. However, the lack of stars awarded leads me to believe that it might be an employee of a competing landfill in an effort to drive business away from Brookhaven. Please disregard his/her comment, and trust me, if you use the Brookhaven Landfill you will NOT be disappointed. Two thumbs up. P.S. Love the photo!! Birds love it here too!
