I want to thank you for checking out and rebalancing the tire on my Cadillac.. I found out the wheel that didn't fit on my Cadillac later I found out it was unilag.. thank you so much for rebalancing my wheel it helped out a lot but I did receive the wheel it was unilag thank you guys you guys are the best.
Filed a BBB complaint. They wouldn’t let me get my Id or debit card they tried to use out of the car until strong arming me to sign it over when it still has a loan. You are unable to get a license at dmv without identification which I didn’t have at the time and an id is needed for everything. New York State says you can get items out of your car instead they wouldn’t let me unless I signed it over when I still owe money on the vehicle. Also rude and unprofessional in general.
To the reply, I was not arrested I was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a disorder they took advantage of. The police officer came to help me get my Id and they still made me sign over the car; also why would I pay money when they stole my vehicle worth more. Also like I said tried to use my debit card. Just because they respond doesn’t mean they were in the right. My bank statement shows their attempt to withdrawl and changing my pin. A day before I was even discharged with the same card I still have taken from the car the day of discharge and with police escort. disgusting 24 hour surveillance so the employees can steal.
I tried to give Croteu’s 10 stars but google only has 5! I was stranded on the Northway with my wife and dogs below Malta with a broken hanging down exhaust pipe. I called Croteaus and they answered 5 minutes before closing, the owner said he didn’t think he could repair but would at least get us off the road to safety. Well, once we got back to the shop they took a look, decided to weld up the pipe and send us on our way good as new! 15 minutes tops. They turned a bad day into a Great experience. And they are dog people too- everyone knows dog people are the best! Thanks again gentlemen!
My daughter hit a metal object on 87north she blow her tire apart. They came in minutes and picked her up gave her a ride to meet a family member and took such good care of her and her vehicle. I highly recommend them!
Best mechanic shop in upstate NY. Have taken multiple vehicles there. They have been able to find things that the BMW dealership and specialty german shop couldnt. Good business, and even better people. 10/10
I want to take a moment to share a great review for Croteau and Sons Service Center. I had one of the worst mornings of my life when my car struck a metal box on the highway, narrowly avoiding what could have been a major accident. Thankfully, Croteau and Sons were the tow company dispatched to help me. They were incredibly friendly and professional. I had been dreading the cost, since in the past towing has always been very expensive for me. But they ordered me a new tire and repaired my vehicle for just $309. I’m truly grateful to them for being fair and honest instead of charging outrageous prices like many other tow companies. I highly recommend giving them a call if you ever find yourself in a tough spot!
I’ve had a great experience with Croteau & Sons. The team is professional, honest, and does quality work. They’ve been helpful in explaining what’s needed without trying to upsell unnecessary services. The shop is reliable, and I always feel like my vehicle is in good hands. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a solid local auto shop!
Scheduled my service appointment more than 1 week in advance, was told they had open availability. When I got there, there was no room to park they had so many cars scheduled for the same day. As a result they didn't even start on the car until after lunch, which lead to them being unable to diagnose until end of day, with no indication of cost until the next morning. Communications were poor, we were told to expect a diagnosis/quote that day then didn't hear from them until I called 15 minutes before close when they quickly mentioned the diagnosis and said a quote would follow the next day. When they produced the quote it was high, about 25% higher than I found at another shop, however, it was in-line with most shops I called. It might have just been an off day for them, but, that's my experience.
As a follow-up to the reply here. It was an issue of not managing expectations and lack of communications. When we dropped off the car an acknowledgement that stuff went sideways and you had a lot of cars and would get to it after lunch plus a quick text or two throughout the day saying "hey we're sorry diagnosis is taking a long time, quote will be ready tomorrow" would have turned this 2 star into a 4.
Tyler has always came through for me anytime I need a tow. And I have 100% confidence to send any of my customers his way if I’m unable to get the job in. Great guys and very knowledgeable in their field!!! Highly recommended

I chose Croteau and Son's for its close proximity to my workplace. I scheduled an appointment for a routine oil change and diagnostic evaluation for an illuminated engine light. They quickly identified the problem, and a couple other ones, through a multi-point inspection and sent an estimate for each issue, with photos, through text. The text system was one of the most concise, organized experiences, having the ability to approve or deny with the click of a box! Altogether, the work took three- separate, consecutive visits (due to obtaining an OEM part from a local dealership and my needing my car for commuting). While some may see this as an inconvenience, I did not, for the quality service I received, and the staff going a step further to ensure the OEM part as opposed to after-market. Additionally, the entire staff were friendly and personable, even addressing me by name at each encounter. An above five-star rating! I have found my local, family-owned service center. Thank you all!

Croteau and Sons have been servicing our 3 vehicles for almost 5 years (2 BMWs & a 2006 mini Cooper). The services, needed parts, and labor are reasonably priced, service is completed on time, and staff is cordial. Text messages are sent when the vehicle is done. You can wait or drop off. If issues occur, and you just never know when they might, a call is made, and a discussion is had before work continues. My guy is a gearhead and has never found this place trying to oversell. Ever. We see state police cars and mail vans there for service! Staff is knowledgeable and cordial. (They love my old mini and treat her like the queen that she is.)
I don’t usually leave feedback BUT even though my repair was quick and easy, I genuinely got a very good feelings of honesty and ethics in Croteau & sons and that is VERY hard to find out there these days. I put A LOT of trust in “getting a good or bad feel” in someone/someplace and I did indeed feel like all the staff in Croteau & sons are truly there to do the job well with the gifts they have been given.
My 2012 model car needed an evaluation for numerous repairs. The garage performed all the evaluations in a timely manner and updated me continually on the cost of parts and the repairs and answered all my questions. I will definitely use Croteau and sons in the future.

Don’t come here if you aren’t buddy-buddy with the employees. They will insult your intelligence by trying to sell you repairs you don’t need. The Inspection report had low attention to detail and grammatical errors. Not only that but I thought they were quite rude about it as well. I could hear the mechanics making snide remarks about my car all the way in the waiting room. In conclusion, Croteau and Sons have the double whammy of being both mechanically inept and having bad customer service. I would give zero stars if I could.
Great experience as always at Croteau’s in Malta. Fair prices, always thorough, great communication while car is in the shop - and friendly staff. Take all my cars here and will continue to!

After reading several positive local reviews, went to Croteau & Sons for some work on vehicle. They were able to schedule me quickly, did a great job, and were very reasonable and honest on costs. Communication was excellent, using phone to review and accept the quote for repairs. Highly recommend! No need to look anywhere else...just go there!
Had a flat tyre as I drove down on rt 9, stopped in at Croteau and Sons and they helped me immediately, no wait, service was professional, efficient. Went back the next day for two new tyres at a really good price! Thank you so much! Highly recommended !!
Had an appointment for an inspection. Since the car is relatively new with lower miles I was not expecting any surprises. Within 20 minutes of arrival the inspection was done and I was out the door. This is fabulous service. Love these folks. They do a great job.
Croteaus is the best. They are always accommodating with "emergencies" big and small. They are professional and competitively priced with others. I'd even pay a little more for their attentive service!!! I love supporting a family owned business in our community!!
Thank you for your expertise & superb car care, I deeply appreciate the back brake replacement when I had the new tires installed along with the oil change. When I am driving my Dodge Charger the drive is so smooth, & I have peace of mind during inclement weather.
My car was having issues with the brakes, where sometimes the wheel would start shuddering, and my brakes would make a grinding noise. I brought my car to the shop based on an ok experience I had in the past and also because Croteau’s has very positive reviews. They looked at my car and said I would need both my front rotor and brake pads changed, as well as both control arms. This cost me over $1300. I decided to bite the bullet and agreed to have the work done.
After getting my car back, only a few days later, my car had even more issues. As I was driving down the Thruway, the wheel of my car began to shudder really badly. I could smell something burning and at one point I couldn’t accelerate. I had to turn the car around and drive it back home. I drove it back with my flashers on and reduce speed to avoid having the problem happen again. This is not something that has ever happened to my car in this severity. I called the shop after the weekend and they said they would take it in and look at it again.
They now said I needed to have both my calipers and front hoses replaced… an extra $379 for this. This was with an apology that it should’ve been caught prior, and so they had permission from the owner to “reduce the price”. They were also trying to tell me they needed to flush my brake system, in which I had to remind them they did this already. I told them I wasn’t going to have the replacements done and that I would have a family member do them instead.
I’ve been to multiple mechanics over the last couple of years when I had a different car and I felt like each time I was given false information and told I had to pay an exuberant amount of money. Unfortunately, this place is no different. After paying over $1300 for repairs, my car is now worse off than it was before. This is very concerning for me and has left me feeling I’ve once again been taking advantage of.
If you are willing to pay a lot of money to have your car worked on here and it doesn’t bother you at all, I would say go for it. Otherwise, I would not recommend going here. The reviews are incredibly deceiving and don’t align at all with the experience I had. The one positive thing I will say is each person at the front desk I spoke with was very nice.
I’m going to try and figure out a way sun this up.
1) fast- I was warned by other people shops are in 2-3 plus week waits. My car was in and out in a week.
2) really friendly- I called so many times. Between my anxiety and trying to coordinate a 3rd party into the mix, I called a lot. No one seemed annoyed or anything like that.
3) price was more than fair- I asked for an estimate so I could figure out how I was going to pay. The first estimate was about average but I trusted my car to them. The actual invoice was a good amount lower. And , nothing worse than having to pay more than quoted, right?

Exceptional service! I had an emergency where my brake line leaked and my brakes were not functioning. I dropped my car off at night after it happened and my car was fixed on the spot by the next afternoon. Highly recommend 11/10 experience. Super friendly family atmosphere too!
