What clients say about Chittenango Falls State Park in Cazenovia Township (NY)

This park was surprisingly walkable, with the falls being yards from the parking lots. We went this winter, and the river was nearly completely frozen over, but you could hear the roar of water beneath the ice. It was so beautiful with all of the snow around, and we spent maybe an hour exploring the accessible areas, because some trails were closed for the winter.

Breathtaking natural beauty in central NY state. Gorgeous waterfalls. A bit off the beaten path but well worth the visit!

This is a beautiful and well-maintained park featuring an easy, accessible path that offers a stunning view of the falls. For those seeking a bit more adventure, there is a more strenuous walk that leads down to the very base of the falls. The facility provides plenty of parking and clean restrooms, making it a convenient stop. For the average visitor, it is a perfect spot for a quick excursion lasting about an hour or so.

The weather was really bad today so I didn't have a chance to explore the park, but I reached the footbridge and took some pictures of the waterfall. The huking trail was maintained well and the bridge was put into the right place.

Always a beautiful place to explore and enjoy the falls. Great way to get some walking around and hiking trails. Nice playground for the kids and picnic areas to have a terrific time.

We did the short 0.5 mile Gorge trail loop around the falls. Water volume is low so the falls is not very impressive at this time. Also the view of the falls from the bridge is dark in the early afternoon so even though it has front view of the falls videos turn out dark. Not much fall colors around the falls on Oct 2nd.

Truly a amazing park. I took my segway around the whole thing. Says no motorized vehicles. But I am handicapped so that is how I get around. I can not walk that far. But it is truly a beautiful place. It has every little thing you need out of a state park. I had a good time for sure. I highly recommend it. Especially with fall colors already produced.

Chittenango Falls State Park is a gem! The main attraction is the gorgeous waterfall and river, and it’s absolutely worth the visit. The park has a nice playground with picnic tables and charcoal grills, plus plenty of grassy space to spread out and relax. There are bathrooms on-site, and while the parking lot is on the smaller side, it’s easy to navigate. A small entrance fee is paid at the machine, which is very convenient. There are only a couple of trails, but the waterfall makes up for it. One side of the trail is well-maintained with stairs leading down to the base, while the other side is a bit more rugged and adventurous, with a fun scramble over rocks. At the bottom, there’s a pretty little bridge and lots of spots where you can dip your feet in the water. Perfect for families or anyone looking for a peaceful nature escape. Highly recommend this park!

This is the kind of place you shouldn’t miss out even if you don’t have a lot of time . You can stop by in the free parking lot walk less than 10 minutes to the overlook area and just admire the waterfall from up there . If you have a bit more time then you can walk and enjoy more . The whole trail down and back is around 40 minutes if you are fast enough and totally worth it .

A really nice state park with a beautiful waterfall. Definitely worth the trip and the hike down to the "bridge" to get the full view of the falls.

Intro: I went to this park just because I saw the word "gorge" in the description for the park on an online review, lol. I was not disappointed. Entrance: Clearly marked, easy to get to. It was easy to enter and exit. Parking: Great parking, right at the entrance. Plenty of space and well maintained, has the restroom building right on the edge of it. Also has the map and bulletin board next to it as well. Facilities: Restrooms are big, spacious, and well maintained for an outdoor facility. No complaints, at least for the men's bathrooms. The upper park area is very well taken care of, I was there bright and early, and the groundskeepers were already there. I did not see any trash or anything out of place. Plenty of benches, grills and even a large covered area. Trails and other Features: The main feature, the waterfall, was awesome. Worth every minute driving from Utica. What was also really nice was the Gorge Trail. Now, there are warnings about the difficulty of the trail, but really, it's only the east side of the river that actually rough. The west side, directly below the main park area, is well designed, with steps, rails and manageable incline for MOST of it. Once you get the bottom, I recommend only crossing the bridge and going up the other side if you want a more "natural" climb, lol. It's very rough. Final Word: Worth the trip, while it only really has one trail, it's a great exercise with awesome views. Go here if you love hiking and waterfalls, and having fun is a nice park area.

Gorgeous park, with a spectacular waterfall! However, if you or your loved ones have a disability, or have difficulty on stairs I advise caution. The stairs going down to the waterfall are very steep. But if you are able to get down to the bottom, it is well worth it! The waterfall is mesmerizing!

Visiting from Michigan and this was an amazing find while out and about. The trail system is about a mile on the loop and the views are beautiful. I highly recommend this hike.

Just gorgeous little park with a big oomph - the waterfall is magnificent. Even though the nearby (relatively speaking) Buttermilk Falls was lacking water due to rainfall, this one was gushing and an absolute delight. Easily viewable on the top of the falls but with a side view, via a few steps and even wheelchair ? accessible from the parking lot. But the best view is a short hike down to the pedestrian bridge (built just for that purpose) - a must do.

This park is very well maintained, and the hike to the base of the falls is super short easy. I highly recommend swinging by here if you're in the area! You can see the whole park within an hour if you wanted to.

Ok, the falls and the views from the trail are 5 stars. I gave the park only 4 stars because I think it's the smallest NY State Park I've been too and there wasn't much there. They have a playground area, rest rooms, and picnic tables but that's about it.

A wonderful park with terrific views! They even had an ice cream truck near the parking lot from a local vendor. The trails are well maintained, and the posted signage does a great job of educating visitors. A great place to spend a morning or evening!

Great and powerful waterfall. Has a very nice loop trail around it, which gives multiple vantage points. Trail is not difficult, but it is uphill at points, so elderly may struggle with it.

What an amazing place!!! I travelled from Ontario to visit this falls and it was thundering majestic!!! Be aware of stairs if you can’t do them you will not be able to enjoy the full view from the bridge at the bottom!

Beautiful scenery. The falls are gorgeous. Great hike to see the falls. We went up and down and was about a 1 mile hike. Parking was $5.

Beautiful! Spectacular! Amazing! Moderate hike. Very steep. Lots of stairs in uneven pathways. There is a sidewalk trail called creekside. Go on that one if you have limitations with with mobility.

Great park. There was rain the entire week prior so I’m not sure if it’s normally this lush or if the water rushes this much. The waterfall was very nice but it’s fenced off everywhere on the top and bottom so don’t expect to get too close or be able to get in the water.

The family loves it! 3 kids (7-13) and 2 adults, took the trails down, across, and around the falls. There was a clear path. Lots of great photo opts with amazing views. The path got very steep but no complaints from the kids!

Visited this place and did the short .5 mile wooded walk around the falls- the falls were very pretty. A great place for a photo.?The trail could use a little work, and there are many steps so not as accessible as some trails. There are picnic areas in the park. $5 parking charge.

I hadn't been in more than 10 years, but it was so nice to spend time on Memorial Day with my family. It's close to Syracuse and other parts of Upstate/Central New York. NATURAL beauty, only 6 dollar parking and free if you have the state veteran card. Go have a picnic, bring card games, hike the trail, drink the spring water, bring a pet with a leash. VERY nice place to visit. I love it.

Massive and fast water flow due to recent rainfall. The gorge trail and bathrooms were open as of 1st week of May.

Amazing hike, outstanding views, NOT stroller friendly to go down to the bridge. But we did it anyway ? It was gorgeous and we enjoyed taking lots of photos - my husband, baby, and I!

We went when it had been raining pretty steady all day. We went counter clockwise from the parking lot and the way down was super Slippery, which added a lot of time to our trip. The rain slowed when we got down to the bridge so we stayed a bit. What a beautiful waterfall! Very quick hike, the incline and decline is very fast but over quick. Even with the rain, we saw lots of people of all ages and sizes going down and up. Definitely worth the stop

This waterfall is one of my favorites! Sometimes you can walk down to the bottom (there was one time I was there and the trail was closed off.) Great picnic place, spread out somewhere green and enjoy your meal. I usually bring a book and find a place near the falls, where I can listen to the water, take a ton of photos and play around with video. Families love it here, I always see many children running around enjoying the views.

I went to this park today and I have to say, it was way more than I ever could have hoped! After paying the (very reasonable) $5 per car entry fee and finding a place to park, which was easy seeing as it was 10 am on a Tuesday, I started down the Gorge Trail. (Side note: the bathrooms here are very clean and look newly constructed.) A word of warning: the trails are quite slippery, especially after rain, so I would strongly suggest wearing hiking boots or some type of grippy footwear. There are 5 main viewing points: 2 on either side of the top of the waterfall, 2 on either side about halfway down the waterfall and a footbridge at the base of the waterfall. All of them offer gorgeous views of the waterfall, but in my opinion the view from the footbridge outpaces all the others. The hike itself isn’t very difficult but it might offer some challenges for beginners due to how steep it is. I slipped a couple times on the way down but thankfully didn’t hurt myself. It might be difficult to tell from some of the pictures but the falls themselves are huge! I mean I know it says that they’re 167 feet tall but you don’t really realize how tall that actually is until you are staring it in the eye! The sheer amount of vegetation that is to be growing out of the rocks was also shocking to me! Like everywhere you look, there is some kind of plant that seems to be completely at home in a place you never would have thought possible! At first glance, I honestly thought I was in the Amazon rainforest, not central New York! In conclusion, I would very strongly recommend to anyone!
