Black Bear Lodge is a little outdated based on its outer appearance. Once you are in the room, it is perfect. We booked a room with a kitchenette which had enough equipment for us to make dinner both evenings of our stay. Kim was very personable. Her grab and go breakfasts included croissants, muffins, instant oatmeal, apples, bananas, coffee, water, and hot chocolate. The room was clean and efficiently designed for housing 2 people. The bed was comfortable. The lodge's location allowed us to travel in various directions to hike. I would stay again.
From the outside, I was worried about Black Bear Lodge. It needs a little updating. But, our room with the kitchenette was perfect for 2 of us. We cooked dinner both nights. The owners were very personable. They did provide a grab and go breakfast with muffins, croissants, oatmeal, fruit, water, coffee, and chocolate milk. Our queen bed was very comfortable! I would definitely stay there again.
Firstly we were grateful after arriving for such a clean, quality - and also very simply and TASTEFULLLY decorated room! Adding to that was my experience with the kind owner who went out of her way to save and promptly mail me a robe I left back to Pennsylvania! Highly recommend this lovely accommodation. Our dog enjoyed it too!

I stayed here with my two young boys the night before we went skiing at Hunter. The location was great - only fifteen minutes from Hunter! The beds were not the most comfortable, but our room was very clean and warm. We really enjoyed the muffins in the continental breakfast! Kim, the manager was very friendly and accommodating.
The hotel itself is located in a quiet, beautiful place near all of the ski mountains. Kim was so friendly and went above and beyond. I had scheduled a pickup to go to Hunter Mountain and my ride never showed up. I had limited service, which made it hard to find a new way to the mountain. Kim then provided me with transportation to the mountain. It was a very great experience here.
I don’t understand the bad reviews, like were you surprised when you showed up? Did you not look at the pictures? Sure the building is a little dated but the location and staff are fantastic. Free breakfast coffee and a freshly baked muffin each morning. Premium location near several awesome hiking trails, breweries, and ski resort. Maybe the Karen’s need to stick to the big city Hotels. Would gladly stay again ??
If you're looking for a "Bate's" motel experience, look no further! Walking into the room felt like taking a trip in the "way back machine" to 1973. The rooms, while relatively clean, are in DESPERATE need of an update. Cob webs in the corners. They do provide full size bottles of shampoo and conditioner, however, our shampoo bottle was almost empty and filled with some water. The beds were extremely soft and not that comfortable. And whatever you do, DO NOT attempt to raise the blinds! Ours fell right off! The room smelled a bit funky, like it was locked up since 1972. Owner was nice though, even packs you a brown bag breakfast with a muffin and a banana.
Second time staying here...just as great as the first time was. My BF and I mountain bike, and this place is in the perfect location for quick access to so many trails.
Very clean, quiet and home-y. Excellent service in a laid-back atmosphere. Will definitely go back.

Our niece was having their wedding in Roxbury on the mountain. We found most places to stay were booked. We booked The Black Bear Lodge. About 17 miles from the wedding venue. || When arrive was surprised to see a small motel’ish place. Wasn’t too sure about this. But met the owner “Kim” and went to the room. Was impressed of how clean it was. The beds were comfortable. Decora was old. It was kinda like spending the weekend at grandmas house. Kim had coffee and a breakfast snack for us in the morning. All in All a very nice weekend.
Black bear lodge was a great experience. For the price, the location and the accommodations were perfect. The room was very affordable and close to the mountain, everything was very clean and the staff at check in was very pleasant. We stayed in room 2 and the room was bigger than expected since we were expecting a standard motel room size. The beds were comfortable and smelled clean (even the comforter seemed clean which is very rare especially for motels). There was a little area by the front door in the room for your skis/snowboard and ski gear. The room had a microwave and a mini fridge as well as a kitchen table for two! If you are looking for an affordable trip the Catskills/Hunter mountain this is great spot to stay!
We found this quaint lodge by accident and couldn't be happier! The room was so clean, warm & cozy and I can't get over how soft the bedsheets were ? everything was perfect for a last minute booking.
There's a river in the back of the property and you can hear it running when you open the windows. You're truly immersed in nature. It was absolutely beautiful. I truly loved it!
Kim was such a gracious host and we can't wait to stay there again!
It's a no-frills place having all the basic amenities you expect to find in a standard motel. Rooms are cozy and clean with comfortable beds, a small freezer, a microwave as well as a small dinning table. I stayed there with my wife and newborn baby this weekend and we thought it was a well maintained place. Kim is wonderful person so is her husband.
A great overnight stay. Kim was very friendly, breakfast was simple but delicious, and the room was basic but clean and had everything we needed. Beautiful area, and if we come back, we will stay again!
We spent a week in the area to relax and take in some sights. Room was nice, clean, bed was comfortable, fridge and microwave. I'd stay again if I'm ever in the area. Breakfast was a paper bag with a muffin or croissant and a piece of fruit, coffee or tea. Very friendly owners, and a pretty cat, too.

We have stayed her so many times that I can’t count. Kim is always so nice and helpful. They always provide good breakfast, fresh fruit and water. I love their DVD collection as well so movie nights. Its beautiful both in summer and winter. Always a pleasure to visit them back.
Wasn't expecting much but needed a pet friendly place to stay. Pleasantly surprised; yes the room is a little outdated but super clean and comfortable. The owners were super nice and we met so many wonderful dog loving people staying there. If we are ever in the area again will be our to go to place. BTW found a wonderful dinner not far in Prattsville that had an outside dog friendly area . Service and food were excellent.
The bad: |It looks a little run down but not in the most charming way. The sink has a lot of rust. Seems like a relatively inaffordable fix.|The room was a little dirty. I had to ask the owner to wash the microwave plate because there was caked on food. The floor was really dirty which I realized after spilling water.|These things wouldn’t bother me normally, but since we are living in Covid-19 times, it bothered me a little that they aren’t meticulous about cleaning and maintenance||The good:|Owners are very nice and accommodating. I arrived really late and the owners stayed up to greet me. She also made sure I had everything I needed.|They have a small continental breakfast to go (COVID-19) which consists of a banana, muffin, coffee/tea. Everything is laid out really neatly and there’s more than enough for all guests.|Location is good. I visited several sites in the Catskills and most were within 30 minutes of this motel.|It’s pet friendly! Which is the main reason I chose this place, along with the price. And there’s more than enough room in the back for my dog to run and get a little walk in.
I am so pleased with Black Bear Lodge. I stayed there to ski at Windham.||||The heat in the room was turned up so it was toasty when I arrived.||||The room, #6, was very clean and homey.It's actually a pretty big room. There's a complete little kitchen! Including a gas stove, a microwave and mini fridge. ||||I had several special requests and they were happy to oblige. ||||I love the classic knotty pine panelling in the breakfast area.||||Really enjoyed the fire they had going in the morning. So cozy to eat breakfast by the fire.||||Black Bear Lodge is updated to have extra amenities but saved classic features and preserves the nostalgic charm. It makes me happy.
My stay was excellent! The woman at the front desk was so polite and responsive, even when I made a mistake with my booking. The room was nice and warm when we arrived late on a freezing night. Went with a group of friends for 2 nights as we were doing a fall motorcycle ride through the catskills. I highly recommend this motel for many reasons. I am a bit OCD and am sensitive to funky smells which were none. It was very clean, loved the hardwood floors, friendly owner Kim, FRESH continental breakfast, decent coffee, soft sheets and close proximity to Prattsville which had a supermarket. Daily room service was a nice touch. Highly recommend!
Kim the owner stayed up late for me until I arrived. She greeted me and set me up on my way. She has a continental breakfast ,rooms are very clean . And sitting outside at night you can hear the coyotes sing their song. Very peaceful I had a great stay thank you Kim
For a no frills motel this place was excellent. Very clean with a super friendly owner, she also pays attention to the little details (for example instead of tiny off brand motel shampoo/conditioners she had Suave bottles and a full bottle of coconut body wash). No pool but comfy beds and very basic continental breakfast and good coffee. 10 miles from Hunter and also close to countless hiking trails. Would DEFINITELY stay here again.
We stayed here during taste of country weekend & this place is perfect! Very clean, beautiful property, and the owners were so great! Every night we would come back to new towels & sheets, which I wasn’t really expecting since I’ve never stayed in a motel before, wasn’t sure how that worked. Just a really enjoyable place. You feel at home.
Last November during Hunting season everywhere I looked was booked. I was able to make a reservation here and the people were very helpful and friendly. The facility was clean and quaint. Not your typical roadside lodging but an enjoyable stay. A stream runs behind the place and there is a nice foot path down to it. Locals at the diner told me there is great fishing all up and down the stream. I stayed 2 nights, was able to use the internet and slept well. plenty of hot water. Overall was a good experience. Only reason I did not give 5 stars is that it is an older motel and the decor could be called a little dated. Still had a comfortable visit.
Kim was a very good hostess. Easy checkin/out. The continental breakfast was good - bagels, toast, cereals, fruit, coffee, tea OJ. She let us bring our dog and that was the reason we picked the BB Lodge. The room was very neat and clean. About 15 minutes to windham and probably a little quicker to Hunter. No complaints! We would have liked a hot tub after a day of skiing...
The manager, Kim, was pleasant and helpful. The room was basic but very clean and warm. The continental breakfast was self-serve and had good variety. We had a very pleasant stay here and would come again.
Great, very hospital owner. Clean, minimal rooms...no cable, but there are DVD players and a video library. Wireless is adequate to stay connected but no video. Met some nice people from Sweden when while staying here. For a night to crash after a long day on the trails it hit the spot.
