I can see why such all the bad reviews. 2 stars for the town of amherst where we pay so much in taxes. My garbage was never picked up friday 10/24, when I got home I called and spoke to Bill who told me to leave it out and they'd come out monday and grab it for me. Its now wednesday amd they still haven't come!!! I called and emailed as well. Its completely full, I can't put any new garbage in it. Your guys neglected my garbage and several neighbors while it was out because our roads are being worked on. I do not appreciate being lied to or ignored. This is disgusting to be treated this way by the town. Bill is a liar. You guys suck. Next time i am filing a formal complaint!
For the taxes you pay for this town this place is the worst and the people in the office customer service should be fired. Their process is all broken and communication is rock bottom by the office. I would recommend another town prior to moving here.
I'm not going to complain about the employees who are out on the street picking up the garbage for the residents. Typically when I engage with them they're very polite. The town of Amherst makes a lot of stupid rules when it comes to collecting garbage. I have friends and relatives in every town in the Buffalo area. When I tell them stories about the town of Amherst and their collection policies they can't believe it and probably get more upset than I do. Today I had some garbage bags in a container I own. They wouldn't collect them and left them on my front lawn. They were about to drive away when I stopped them. They told me they can't collect that garbage because the town wants me to purchase another container. However, if I left the bags on the front lawn. They would collect it. I thought I would put them in a container to make it easier for pickup. This is just so stupid. I've had too many bad experiences to list here. I'm just trying to vent, hopefully someone from the town will read this and understand their stupidity. Not likely though.
And now I see your reply. And this is why so many residents are unhappy with your service. I've called and spoken to the town before. Most times I'm deferred to Modern Disposal. I don't pay taxes to Modern Disposal, I pay them to the town of Amherst. And now you want to explain to me one of your rules or policies that you created to benefit yourself. Not the residents. Serve the people, not yourselves.
EVERYONE is rude or just annoyed when you call with an inquiry or follow up, how unprofessional and unhappy can you really be working for the town really? Might be time to find a different career path.
I have lived in a lot of places and I can say from experience that the Amherst Office of Refuse does a fantastic job.
The teams that work in our neighborhood are thorough, friendly, and work very hard for us.
They also did a great job of letting us know when our bins needed replacing and made the whole process very simple.
I met Beth in the office and James when he came to switch out our old garbage bin. Both were very knowledgeable and a pleasure to chat with.
I'm very grateful we have such a great team taking care of us here in Amherst!
Why are you coming at 3am and 5am to pick up a dumpster when people are sleeping. This is happening right next to my newborn babies window and waking her up every single time with the back up alarm and the dumpster smashing.
Absolutely lousy. They don’t care if they don’t pick up your trash. For weeks. They don’t want to dirty their hands or employ their own people to work so they contract with modern who is the worst company. R licata don’t care. Very nasty. Many many complaints the town of Amherst doesn’t care they just keep hiking your taxes up to no end don’t move to Amherst ny
They took my call about the lawn waste not being picked up on our street and will be sending a truck. Nice to have someone picking up on the first ring and answering my question without being transferred.
We had a deer die in a densely wooded area behind our house. The smell was pretty intense. Within an hour of making the call to the Sanitation Dept, Bill showed up to check out the situation. He ended up needing some back-up but eventually the deer was discreetly hauled away. Trust me, not an easy feat considering the size of the deer and the brush they had to carry it through. I was very impressed with their timeliness. Bill was personable despite the grizzly affair at hand. Overall, great service!
It disappoints me there's all of these 1 star reviews. The phrase "when I do good you never remember, but when I do bad you never forget" rings true here.
I had a minor issue I called the refuse office about, the guy who answered whose name I do not know was very friendly, attentive to our family's needs, and more importantly, offered solutions to our problem. Sanitation has been very timely and consistent every week and I have much respect for their hard work over Corona Time.
Keep up the great work guys, you are quite literally one of the unsung cogs in the wheel of our town. Stay safe out there.
How in Earth are any of us supposed to interact with an office with such restrictive hours!? I have to take a vacation day to dispose of a can of paint!? How hard is it to have a drop off location for this stuff?
Have damaged garbage tote. Requested replacement garbage tote in June 2018. As of March 2019 the tote has still not been replaced. Garbage collectors are upset and I have no way to replace myself seeing as the town does not followup and assist.
I agree buying property and living in the Town of Amherst isn't what the hype made it to be. The garbage pick up is horrible as well. The company utilize skips/miss or isn't consistent at all on collecting trash along Harlem Road going towards Dorchester. And the rats are terrible especially with the neighbors I have which I have made complaints and no resolve. One thing for sure I'm selling and leaving the Town of Amherst behind which their town council etc won't care of losing decent people. Their only concerned with their immediate friends and family like the ones living around the corner in the area of Mt. Vernon and streets in between their is an town official person living. Hmmmm I guarantee their garbage has been collected on time.
AWFUL! I have been waiting for 7 weeks for a damn trash can to be delivered! STILL NO SIGN OF ONE! These people never do anything - I would not recommend them at all
