So exceptional. You can tell everyone who works there really cares about the success of the restaurant and overall vibe. Everything was so thoughtful, from the flowers to the food pairings to their care for my dietary restrictions and making sure they had options for me. Such a sexy restaurant

So my boyfriend proposed to me last night and I'll never forget it. It was perfect and to the manager that helped set up everything for him and help make this night perfect for me thank you so much. I'll never forget it was absolutely beautiful with the candle light and even recorded the memories for us. The waitress serving us was the sweetest to. I give her 5 stars. I hope we get you next time we go. And the food was amazing the scallops was our favorite. And the cake and wine you gave us on the house for the engagement was so sweet of you guys. I can't wait to go there again.

The ambience and overall vibe were great, and honestly enough to make me consider coming back. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to expectations. The chicken and steak were cooked well, but ultimately lackluster in flavor. The most memorable items ended up being the gouda plate and a scoop of ice cream. Service was just okay. Our waiter was nice, but never really checked on us. Wine glass sat empty on the table and were never asked if we wanted another. We were also asked if we wanted the coal-roasted potato with dinner to which we said yes, but it never came. Overall, it’s a beautiful space with a great atmosphere, but the food and service didn’t match expectations given the cost and online hype.

I loved every single thing about Stissing House. It has the perfect ambiance, it's warm, cozy, calm, and it smells great. The staff is very busy but find time to be friendly. The food is delicious. The breads are perfect; the kabocha squash was unique, creamy, warming; the pork chop had a great firewood taste; the dessert was very sweet but comforting. I can't wait to go back and try more dishes.

After capturing a number of events at Stissing House, experiencing their staff and food, I cannot say enough great things about them! The location and atmosphere is stunning, the food is remarkable and the staff is endlessly helpful. If you are looking for a Hudson Valley wedding location, this is a wonderful one!

The chicken and coconut cake are the only things worthwhile really. Be aware that their house made sweet vermouth is extremely bitter, almost like an amaro. I get that people want a “unique upstate dining experience” but this definitely seems like it is rooted in the city more than it is upstate. The staff is relatively pretentious, the atmosphere is very colonial for some reason (I’m not sure if it’s supposed to act as a time capsule like that, which seems a tad gimmicky and somewhat reminiscent of a themed restaurant) and the 4 tops that they separate into 2s in front of the bar are far too close to each other once separated. This is the second time I tried it, I didn’t really enjoy it last time, and although I really wanted to like it this time, I was again disappointed. If it wasn’t so hard to get a reservation here maybe my rating would be different, but I really don’t think the food is that good either.

We went for my partners 30th. Very friendly staff, the stewed squash with goat cheese appetizer was delicious. I got the snow dance chicken… Perfectly juicy with a crisped skin. Melt in your mouth good. My boyfriend got the Bavette steak with broccolini . It was perfectly cooked and very flavorful.

The vibe in Stissing House is unmatched. It feels like walking to an old, rustic tavern with candle light all around. The service is also top-notch and very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the food, is quite simply, bad. Most of the dishes we ordered were far too salty and just didn’t taste great. The desserts were bad as well—the coconut cake was excessively sweet, and the ice cream tasted cheap. It’s a shame, because with such wonderful service and ambiance, Stissing House has all the ingredients for greatness—just not on the plate.

City girl here with high expectations. Absolutely immaculate vibes and incredible food. Came on a Sunday right before doors opened, already was a line out the door. Couldn’t get a seat at the bar right away, but got to wait in the lounge, where you can order drinks and snacks. Fantastic! Didn’t mind the wait at all, cozy by the fireplace. Finally it was time for dinner and boy did they deliver! Was told the chicken was a classic, on the menu since they opened, so had to try. Best chicken we’ve ever had. Crispy on the outside, so juicy and tender inside. Artichoke and cup of broth also highly recommend. Seafood stew was lacking salt/flavor. Scallops were solid. Coconut cake is a must!

Buddy, I don’t know who Jake is, but he makes the best dang Gouda cheese I ever had. Steak and ale pie with mash…that’ll be my last meal and I’d happily die right afterwords. Great service, thanks to Emma + everyone else ! Get the coconut cake, obviously. Can’t wait to return.

Came here for our wedding anniversary and it was truly a special evening, the space, service and food were all amazing. The house is gorgeous, it looks very colonial with lovely moody candlelight and a beautiful bar. Our server was charming and the food was top notch. Start with the pickles, ham and chips! These were so fun and tasty. Also the cup of broth poured tableside was delicious. On the larger side, we shared the peach and tomato salad, tuna tartare, the artichoke and steak. The kitchen makes great use of seasonal produce and the presentations were beautiful. For dessert the coconut cake is a must, so light and airy we were tempted to get two!

My fiancé and I visited Upstate New York from Northern Virginia for our anniversary trip, and stopping at Stissing House was an absolute must for me, I had been dying to experience it for myself! We reserved a table for our anniversary dinner, and it did *not* disappoint! I’m a huge fan of rustic charm and cozy ambiance, and Stissing House delivered on every front. The timeless beauty of the space, combined with its warmth and inviting atmosphere, is truly something special. But it wasn’t just the setting that impressed us, the food was just as exceptional!! My fiancé went as far as to say that the burger he ordered might be the best he’s ever had in his life. I had the chicken and potatoes, and it was truly remarkable, I'm still thinking about it ;) To top it all off, the staff was incredibly warm and welcoming, especially our wonderful waitress, she was extremely attentive and thoughtful! When my fiancé asked a question about the oysters but decided not to order them, she surprised us by bringing a few to the table as a gift. After learning it was our anniversary, she brought out a complimentary slice of coconut cake with a candle, which was such a sweet gesture. And when I commented on how cute the postcards were that came with the check, she even brought us a few extras to take home. It was truly the most attentive and thoughtful service we’ve ever experienced. She went above and beyond to make our night extra special, and it’s a dinner we’ll never forget!

First time visitor and the entire experience was exceptional! Everything was so yummy but the one item that is an absolute must is the Scallops! There are no words except buttah.....they were silky smooth, not chewy at all, melt in your mouth...buttah!!

My husband and I went here for our anniversary and it was lovely! The atmosphere is nice, I am a big fan of the candlelight. It was a bit noisy , but it’s what you get in an older building with not the best insulation. The scallops were amazing, I don’t know if I could say they’re not worth the money, but I would highly recommend them. Our dishes were great, if not a tad bit expensive. Honestly, my only real complaint is that we had ordered dessert and received those, when we also got a piece of cake for it being our anniversary. 1) we were charged for it even though we did not ask for it, and 2) it wasn’t until after we had ordered and received our chosen desserts that we got it. Our waiter was wonderful otherwise and made great conversation. I don’t know what to expect when you come in on a special occasion, but usually it’s not to pay for the special treat. That being said, it was huge and tasty. Overall, a nice experience, just pricey!

Came here for my boyfriend’s birthday, and we’re already looking forward to the next time we come back! This place has a great vibe with the decor and candles at each table making you feel like you’ve gone back in time. Everything we ate was incredibly delicious. Service was great and our server, Simon, was amazing and had some great recommendations. I definitely recommend walking around checking out the other rooms in this beautiful place as well!

A great place with some amazing food. The cozy ambience of the place is warm and welcoming. The heritage building has it's own special charm that adds to the overall experience. Coming to the food, it is modern traditional fare, with flavours that work so well that it leaves you craving for more. We had oysters with bone marrow glaze and Coal roasted scallops with green butter. Both of these were amazing apps that was a perfect way to start the meal. It rightly whets your appetite. Then between my friend and I we shared the mains. A sweet fresh Rainbow trout with a crispy skin over a bed of fava bean and collards. The fish was flaky and delicious. Next was the hanger steak with horseradish potato mash and charred brocolini. It was that warm hearty food which is a hit with all. That mash packed a punch courtesy the horseradish! To finish off the fabulous meal was a sinfully rich dessert of almond pudding with vanilla ice cream with prunes. The pudding was decadent and rich and very tasty. A special shout-out to the amazing staff of the Stissing House. They were equally warm and welcoming as the place. They were attentive and friendly. We were running late and they went out of their way to accommodate us and make sure that our table was kept for us. This was truly a memorable meal and one of my favourite since moving to the US. Loved it !!!

Went here for my boyfriend’s birthday and we had a great time! I highly recommend sitting at the bar. Drinks were amazing- try the calvados sour and the pine plains martini! The tuna tartare was sooo good. And definitely get the coconut cake for dessert!

This restaurant is the main reason I stayed in this area. Don't get me wrong - the hotel nearby was amazing and so were surrounding wineries, sceneries, and other businesses. Stissing House remains a destination, however. Whenever I hear someone may be heading upstate, I'll be asking them if they will be traveling near or staying in the eastern side of the Hudson Valley. In particular, every moment with the staff demonstrated the care that they treat all of their guests. I especially loved the attentive service that Taylor and Emma showed us once we were seated in the main dining area. The food was amazing and well balanced. I'm very happy I listened to our hosts, because the wood fired halibut was sublime, especially with the recommendation on the wine pairing. The rest of the meal was similarly great... Suffice to say, I'll be back. I'll almost certainly be bringing more people to a restaurant that offers such an amazing lounge room and incredible food... Also, the sourdough and cultured butter alone would keep me coming back. Stissing House Team: if you sell that in NYC you're going to have to expand ?

This is my new favorite place. I cannot wait to go back. It’s like it was created to please my senses in every way. Every piece of art I want in my own home. It smelled good. It feels like you’re stepping back in time. It is perfectly designed, minimalist yet warm. The lighting was stunning—low but enough to see easily. Same with the music— it was audible but never overbearing. It is just easy to exist in this place. The roaring fires throughout made it so cozy on a cold winter’s night. The only miss for us was the lamb saddle, the texture was fatty and chewy (but admittedly this is to be expected with that particular cut, just not what we had anticipated). The flavor of the lamb was great though. The chicken, oysters, pickles, scallops, coconut cake and toffee sundae were all winners!

Wow, I’ve had this place on my list for so long and I’m so happy I got to cross it off because it was PHENOMENAL. Service, food, ambiance all absolutely perfect. Please do yourself a favor and absolutely get the caramel ice cream. It was the best ice cream I’ve possibly ever had. The artichoke starter was lovely. The broth was so rich and beautiful. The side waiting room is cozy and warm. I wish this place was near me so I could come weekly. 10/10

Easily one of my favorite dinners. The ambience is so cozy and homey. We loved all the appetizers particularly the bone broth, ham and mustard, chips and leeks. Our mains and desserts were great as well. They had the fireplace on in the sitting room, my only miss was not arriving early to enjoy it.

BEST ATMOSPHERE of any restaurant I’ve ever experienced in my 40 years on this earth! From the moment you walk in, the smell of an open fireplace just throws you back in time when I’m sure the inside of every building felt this way. The service was excellent and the entire table gets served at the same time. The food comes out hot. And there wasn’t one plate disliked. RECOMMENDING going early to sit in the open fireplace waiting room. FREE peanuts!! Nice touch.

Our group of 3 was staying in MA for the weekend and took the >1hr drive to Stissing House for a 9:15pm reservation (the only one available two weeks in advance). It was 100% worth it. The service was incredible and the food was truly special. We ordered the pickles, Gouda, scallops, tomatoes & peaches, grits & dandelion greens, and the ribeye (the suckling pig was sold out by that time). Every single bite was incredible and not a bite went to waste. The cocktails were okay, but paled in comparison to the food. The space itself was beautiful and had a lot of character. We will definitely be back.

I drive an hour for the coconut cake often. But the entire menu is tight and well thought out. Seasonal, appropriate, and everything kissed with the aroma of the wood fired oven. Eating at Stissing house is like stepping back in time, but it is t at the same time. Because no food or drink in the 1700s was as good as what they serve there now.

Celebrated my birthday at stissing house and it was just beautiful. We made a reservation in advance and even though it was Thursday, the restaurant was busy. The atmosphere is intimate with the candle light at every table, the design is well chosen and the food is great. We got a complementary dessert which was delicious and I don’t think I took any pictures of the food, but it was delicious. The cheese selection is great.

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant after our friends selected it for dinner. I was not initially excited to try it. Most of the dishes are not necessarily unique (roasted chicken, fried fish, etc). However, each dish was really well executed. The curried mussels were the one item that was both unique and delicious. Service was great, and the vibes are very cozy and welcoming. There is a waiting area with a wood burning fireplace and offerings of peanuts. I don't know that I'd spend that much money for such standard dishes again, but I definitely left satisfied and enjoyed everything.

We had a pleasure of celebrating my birthday at the Stissing House. The food is forward and delicious. We were pleasantly surprised by how Chef incorporates bitterness and tanginess into her creative cooking. We absolutely enjoyed everything we ordered tonight. the service was on point and friendly.

This is culinary level food at very high prices as one might expect. Check the menu before you go to insure there is something you're willing to try. On the plus side, the service is incredible. Their bread is also delicious and their butter tastes like they whipped it up that morning. I also had a rather unusual salad with different fruits and lettuces in it that all came together very nicely. I also had roasted chicken with rosemary potatoes (I am NOT an adventurous eater). The chicken was plump and juicy and cooked to perfection, but it tasted like, well, roasted chicken. Nothing special. The same with the rosemary potatoes, which barely tasted different than regular potatoes. Going back to the positive, their coconut cake is out of this world delicious. The atmosphere is also very nice, restored from the early 19th century. Modern additions were very tastefully done. All in all, most of the food is rather 'high brow' and just not worth it to me. It's more of an experience than a place to eat. Everything is quality, just not my cup of tea.

Wonderfully warm atmosphere in this restored landmark building (1782) blends beautifully with the elegant simplicity of the menu. Letting the flavors of each unique ingredient stand out in each thoughtful dish, the chef has created a menu that is small in quantity and over the moon in quality. Oysters served on a bed of salt with only a lemon wedge allows you to enjoy the natural flavor of the oysters. The kettle chips are ?? The highlight was the locally sourced ribeye with creamed kale - just melted in my mouth. Paula served us at the bar and she was the perfect balance of engaging and confident in the drinks and dishes served. The only gripe I have is the entrance, which isn’t clearly labeled, and so you end up doing a lap around the building until you figure it out.

Beautiful cozy new American restaurant with fantastic service. Loved the fresh farm to table menu. The endive and pear salad was very good. The chicken was excellent, juicy and with the crispiest skin. Squash was also deliciously spliced. We ended our meal with the toffee Sunday which was to die for. All the waiters were super friendly and attentive! Looking forward to many more meals at this delicious restaurant!
