This is closed - website and visitors center in Farmington providing outdated info. Boarded up - wasted over an hour getting there

I grew up on the other side of the mountain from here but never visited until today - I’m 50. Cool old building with a plethora of Navajo-made rugs by local weavers, as well as various pop art, rug weaving tools, supplies, & wool, and various antique things. Had a great visit with the manager. Bldg looks like it’s not used much, but it is open and accessible to the public. Stop by, it’s a must-see just for the sake of nostalgia if you’re in the southwest but also has a good inventory of Navajo rugs. Also, bring cash in case their debit/credit card machine is down.

This is an excellent store for Navajo goods, especially carpets. They have carpets for every budget; the turquoise one in the Google maps pictures is an exquisite piece, while others are simpler. We went to three other stores, but this one had the best selection. The rugs are mostly traditional to that area with a few modern twists. The shopkeeper is very friendly. It is well worth the detour. Only, it is best to call in advance.

Have went here many times and purchased Two Grey Hills from Les Wilson the owner. The Navajo name for the Two Grey Hills Trading Post was: Bis Dah itso, “Yellow Clay at an Elevation,” referring to two Mesa Verde sandstone crags nearby. This post is about 11 miles east of Newcomb, New Mexico on the Toadlena road (three and a half miles south of Navajo Route 19). The present owner-trader Les Wilson, was formerly an assistant trader at Shonto, purchased the post in early 1987. Also I made a video of the History of the post.
