I was in the market for a new mechanic given that the one I had retired. Worried that it would be hard to find someone to trust. I can now put that fear to bed.
Over the past few months I've had to get intake manifold gaskets replaced, fuel assembly, injectors, plugs, MAF sensor and a couple of ignition coils. Along with tire valve stem replacements.
I can now say that they have earned my respect and that my search is over.
Peter and the mechanics that I've talked with have been nothing but forthcoming and honest. They have showed respect towards myself and my vehicle. For these things, I am grateful.

Just had my car serviced here. All around excellent job. Work was performed in a timely fashion (oil change, trans fluid change, brakes & rotors). I was informed of price prior to any work being done, and nothing was recommended that wasn't absolutely necessary. Very fair pricing, quality work, and professional, cordial demeanor throughout the process. I found this shop to be extremely trustworthy.

One thing that has always stood out is how honest Pete is—whenever my spouse has overheard him speaking with customers, he never pushes unnecessary services or tries to upsell something they don’t need or can’t afford.
I’ve personally taken my car there twice for routine service, and both times, the process was smooth, efficient, and convenient. Scheduling was easy, and they had my car ready on time, which I really appreciate. By chance, I also found out that a close friend—someone I consider a very conscientious consumer—has been bringing their family’s cars here for years and has nothing but good things to say. Always good service, friendly owner. Been there a few years now, no surprises and feel as though they are trustworthy and do not do unnecessary work. Highly recommended. AAA approved which is what motivated me in the first place. Difficult to find mechanics who do not try and rip off a woman each time you go in for an oil change, so if you are a woman, I recommend that you use them.

They're honest and get the job done for a fair price. My best friend and her family have used them for years. I was in from out of town and my car stalled we took it to them. They found the problem, called me and explained the problem. I said, "Go ahead and fix it." They ordered the parts. I had my car back and running in less than 48 hours.
I use this shop to fix my car for many years and service was ok. I don’t know what was changed but last 2 years the service is horrible and front desk is not helpful at all. For last 2 years I pay around 5000 $ dollars for fix and drive only to store, church and once a week some around 25 miles. Last week I pay again 500$ for fix and today check engine light is on. Left work early to go there and check what is wrong and everything what they say I need to leave car again. They even don’t want to scan to check what is error…. So disappointed after such long time being with them …. Not come beck any more to that place!
After having them work on my car to replace the radiator, I decided to take a look at the work they did for myself. Instantly after opening the hood I saw that they forgot to put all caps for the ac lines back on and also that they overtightened and stripped all the bolts to my engine cover. This is why I recommend checking your car yourself or taking a picture of the engine bay before dropping it off here. I know for sure that none of my bolts were stripped beforehand because I inspected the car myself before I took it in. Take your car somewhere else that won't make a rookie mistake like this.
I am very pleased with this shop. I felt they were sincere and the customer service was excellent. I have been robbed by thousands of mechanics who charge for things that do not cost that much. I can honestly say that now going forward, I am at ease that I have finally found a place where my car will be fixed professionally and accurately. Very pleased and to make things better they offer a 2 year warranty something the mechanics I’ve been too have never offered. If you’re looking for a place with fidelity, this is the one!

The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The prices were very reasonable and charges were broken down clearly. They are AAA accredited, so I trust they are doing honest work and was thankful for their help with the repairs to my car! So far, so good.
5 Star is an excellent choice for all your car repairs it's my 2nd time and not my last, Pete as always courteous when you walk in and the techs are great Dennis worked on my Tundra for the 2nd time this time for rotors and brakes and a oil change, explained all in fine detail to me I'm extremely happy with there service enough to bring my company vehicles here for service. I had them diagnose my transmission. I eventually decided to take my car to another shop after finding a better price on the repair. I arrived at their business with a tow truck and cash in hand to pay diagnostic and towing expenses so they could release my vehicle. I explained all this to Pete and he refused to print an invoice. He said he would need thirty minutes. No other customers were present and my car wasn't blocked in. I explained that I'd arranged with a tow service and the tow truck driver wouldn't be able to wait thirty minutes. He said it wasn't his problem. The tow truck driver left and as soon as he did, Pete printed out the invoice and took my money. It took all of two minutes. It's hard to interpret what Pete did as anything other than a petty act of revenge for taking my business elsewhere. I wouldn't leave my car with a repair shop that begrudges people their basic consumer rights.
Response to the owner: Buddy, I declined your help and chose to take my business elsewhere. I would have been happy if your shop didn't actively hurt me. I ended up paying $50 extra for the tow because I was in a bind. The fact that one of your senior employees even felt comfortable engaging in such a casually malicious act speaks to the culture at your repair shop. Thanks for nothing.

My car was broken down on last Wednesday. AAA battery staff recommended the Five Star. I paid extra $ to AAA because the distance exceeds 5 mils. The repair cost is more expensive than I thought but this is not the reason I give one star here because they have confirmed with me. What I'm complaining is this price actually is cash only. When I made payment at the garage, I was not notified that I will be charged 3.99% what so called "No Cash Adj" fee. I just found this fee on the receipt this morning. I don't know if this fee is normal in Clifton area. But I never see this fee in Edison, central jersey, where I live. For a garage handles hundreds bucks repair everyday, credit card payment should be normal, especially as a partner with AAA.
I made an appointment for a Saturday morning - convenient for my schedule. I was greeted warmly, and my car was taken care of within minutes. The mechanic explained all that was done, and answered a couple of questions I had. I would definitely return to this service station.
Pete was extremely helpful. After a beyond horrible experience at another nearby mechanic, my car was towed here and I couldn’t be happier. They found a discontinued part for my car and kept me updated daily on the tracking information as I had an important need coming up for the car. They were so professional, kind, and helpful - not scammy in the least. As a former employee at a mechanic out of the area, I was very impressed and am grateful to have found Five Star. Five Star Auto - I was going there a few years back with the original owner and now they have a new owner and Service Manager I just purchased a used Honda Civic SI and it required a clutch and other work.. Peter was GREAT! Very straight up and up front and it felt the service and advise was just a good, glad I left my car to be services their. Very fair pricing and the work speaks for itself. I used to always have my regular services and checkups done at my local car dealer and never really interacted with the mechanics regarding any issue with my car. It was usually a fast transaction almost always but this time I was referred to Five Star Automotive and I am extremely pleased with the service they provided. I went in for a regular Oil Change whom was done by Dennis, one of the mechanics there and he instantly brought up a few things that needed attention towards my next visit. He was very attentive to my concerns about my vehicle and also gave me some suggestions. Five Star gained another customer because I will definitely be back for future services!
